Checkmate"Sweetie?"
There was a gentle knocking against her door, before a thin light fell onto the floor through a gap between the door and the frame. Yoona recognized the dark voice of her father.
"Go."
He sighed, before he entered and closed the door. The room fell into total darkness once again.
"Yoona, detective Choi is leaving."
"And?"
She pulled the duvet over herself, covering throat and shoulders more than earlier. All of a sudden, Yoona was freezing. Even though she had been comfortable and warm until just now.
"There's nothing more to share with him?"
"No," she whispered. "So, leave now. Please. . . ?"
Once more, her father sighed. Then, Yoona could hear footsteps approaching her, before the mattress sank down next to her calves. A hand landed on her right arm, giving the limb a mild hug. Yoona responded with her own fingers seeking his, placing themselves onto his. The contact between father and daughter was soothing.
"You can't hide in here forever, darling."
"Watch me."
He laughed in silence.
"I prefer not to," he responded, after which the smile disappeared.
"But, what about TaecYeon?"
She let out a deep sigh, "What of him?"
"You can't get married in here, or bear his children."
Their interlinked hands lost connection when Yoona pulled herself free. She was too exhausted to show her anger in another manner.
"Oh, so now, I'm his slave that have to fulfill his demands?"
Her father sighed as well, "That's not what I meant."
Yoona threw off the blanket and sat up, before glaring at him in the dark. Couldn't he see that she was hurt and didn't want salt in her wounds? Some time alone was a lot more prefered.
