Look into each other’s eyes.

The door opens, making a squeaky sound. It must be Kyung. Popping his head from the kitchen, Xiumin sees her walking blandly towards the couch and collapsing dramatically. She must have been so tired, studying and attending classes from morning till one in the afternoon and then working after. Xiumin wants to help her but he couldn’t think of anything as of the moment.

Luckily, his schedule today is free. Because of the success they garnered for the last few weeks since their debut, the company has granted them days off to rest. And Xiumin ultimately decides that he wants to spend it with her.

This morning, he took over Kyung’s role to help unload a bit of her to-dos. He wakes up early and proceeds to the kitchen. He makes his special Breakfast Special, which mostly consists of sunny side-up eggs and bacon over rice. Then he adds toasted sandwiches with butter on top. The carton of milk he bought last night has been useful to him, too, since Kyung’s breakfast isn’t complete without it.

It feels as though they were married. Xiumin can’t help but smile at the thought of it. After all, he has wanted to pop the question for a long time.

But now, seeing her so exhausted breaks his heart. He feels useless as he watch her face contort in pain and exhaustion.

Attempting to come up with one way to help her, he tiptoes from the kitchen. She doesn’t even notice him pass by in front of her so she must have been extremely worn out. No matter how many times he tells her to stop working, she doesn’t listen. “I want to be independent, Xiumin,” she would tell him with an angry expression on her face.

Arguing with her about it seems pointless. They’ll probably end up ignoring each other for days, especially when Kyung’s ego is as big as a polar bear.

“Hey.”

Kyung slowly opens her eyes. She furrows her eyebrows, confused to where the sound is coming from. Then her eyes look up and it directly meets his. He sees how her face softens when she finally perceives him.

He stands behind the couch, inclining a little as though he’s bending towards her. Cupping her cheeks in his warm hands, he smiles at her. Kyung catches a glimpse of it, and she smiles back. Only, it’s a bit weak.

Their gazes lock. And no one, not even Kyung or Xiumin, plans to break it.

I’m here. He says through his eyes.

Kyung’s half-lidded eyes crinkle in understanding. I know.

I love you.

She beams at him. I love you, too.

Anyone can look at others' eyes, but lovers can see into each other’s souls through the eyes.
