Chaeyoung cried out in pain when she felt the bullet enter her leg, then another in her arm. Jeongyeon rushed over, tending to her as the rest of the soldiers covered them. It was a ruthless gun fight. Nearly an hour now of firing, and no one was letting up or winning.

“Just leave me.” Chaeyoung cried.

“You have someone to go back to that loves you just as much as I do. Hyo will kill me if I let you die.” Jeongyeon muttered.

By nightfall, the gun fire had stopped, the enemy retreating after more of their soldiers had been killed. It didn’t feel like a victory to anyone. Most of their own soldiers were wounded or dead, people accounting for the corpses while others were treated.

“Thanks.” Chaeyoung sighed when she was able to go back to the tents.

“For?” Jeongyeon asked while taking a bite of her bread.

“Saving me.” She chuckled.

“Don’t worry about it.

“She’s getting cuter by the day.” Jihyo chuckled while watching Sana tend to her daughter.

“She’s perfect.” Sana cooed while brushing a few stray hairs out of her face.

“She’s going to be the perfect princess.” Jihyo smiled, happy that her sister was finally happy about something in her life rather than worrying so much.

“Princesses..” A guard bowed quickly before looking at Jihyo. “Urgent news… Chaeyoung was injured in a gun fight.” He frowned.

Jihyo had felt like her entire soul had left her body at just those words. She felt faint, but at the same time very angry. She wanted to hurt whoever hurt her precious Chaeng. But she couldn’t do anything from where she was.

She didn’t know how it happened, but she ended up in Sana’s arms, the older girl holding her up and keeping her steady.

“You’re okay. Hey, focus on me.” Sana whispered. For a moment, she could’ve swore it was their mother speaking.

Their mother spoke to them as if they had just gone through another raid, and she didn’t want them to see the destruction or harm..

“Focus on me girls.. Don’t look away.” The queen spoke calmly, eyes filled with worry as they walked through the courtyard to their car. Even though Jihyo was young, she found comfort in her mother’s voice…

“Just get her some water… Please.” Sana whispered. The gua
