Chapter 22

Until It's Gone

"Oh Sehun has lost his degree and all the credits earned towards it, Oh Eunsun and Kim Jongin have been suspended for the term." Taehyung informs them as the group is gathered for dinner at the Zhang's place.

"That's all?" Jongdae asks, disappointed at just how easy they seem to have gotten off.

"Unfortunately." Taehyung sighs,

"Suhyun is here." Yixing tells them, just as Suhyun and Junmyeon enter followed by Luhan and Minseok.

"Iforgot something." Evalyn excuses herself, quickly walking away before they others notice her.

"Evalyn." Jongdae yells, getting Minseok's attention though it too late as she's already made her escape.

"Seriously?" Jia shakes her head at her younger brother, but he's unaffected focusing on his food.

"You can start without me." Minseok sighs, hurrying to catch up to Evalyn.

"Are you sure that's a good idea?" Taeyoung asks, warily glancing in the direction the two ran off in.

"He's not going to hurt her." Luhan comments,

"I'm more worried about her hurting him. She seems close to snapping." Taeyoung tells them,

"Yeah, but he's Minseok. Her Minnie, no matter how much she hates him, she'll never hurt him." Jongdae states, Taeyoung gives up seeing as everyone agrees with Jongdae.

"Evalyn Zhang." Minseok calls, following her out to the garden/backyard. The only indication that she's heard him, is when she starts walking faster, close to sprinting.

"Eeveee, stop." He smirks as the nickname brings her to a momentary halt, allowing him to catch up to her.

"Too late." He chuckles, stepping in front of her, careful to avoid any type of physical contact, as he's still unsure on what she's comfortable with.

"What do you want?" Evalyn asks, though her glare does nothing to scare her ex off.

"I'm leaving tomorrow morning. I wanted to let you know personally." He tells her, carefully observing her.

"How does that concern me?" She asks, still refusing to even look at him.

"I just wanted to let you know, in case you want to see me off."

"Have a safe trip." Is all she says, walking away, leaving him staring at her.

"Did he leave?" Yixing startles, looking up from his phone to his sister leaning against the door.

"I know you were there." He rolls his eyes, side-stepping her into the kitchen.

"I don't know what you're talking about." She denies, following behind her brother.

"Not only did I see you, but I also got an update from Lia." Yixing reveals, "Twinkle, help me understand?"

"If I understood myself, I could." She scoffs, picking at a scab on her arm.

"Stop." Yixing frowns, grabbing hold of her hand.

"That day when we asked for your choice, you said if you had one it would be him. So, what happened between then and now?" Yixing asks her,

"Exactly ge, If I ever had a choice, I would always choose him, but I really don't. I don't know if I can be fixed, and to live with someone broken, I can't do that to him." She confesses,

"You're seeing someone, you're doing your best to work on your mental health. You're not an object princess, you don't break, you get hurt and with time you heal or cope with your injuries to live your best life. And Minseok has the right to make his own decisions, he knows everything and he still chooses you, and will continue to choose you." Yixing tries to assure her.

"I don't want him to ge. Ge, I am broken. I can't even have people touching me, because I'm so scared of anyone touching me. I can't even sleep as the nightmares keep me awake. I hate waking up because I'm so tired. Xing." She breaks down, sobbing. Her brother is quick to embrace her.

"You'll be fine. I promise to do my best to make sure no one ever hurts you again." Yixing assures her.

"Are you sure you don't need me there?" Eunhui shakes her head at her cousin's overprotective nature.

"I just need some fresh air. I'll be home in few." She assures him,

"Take care and call me if you need anything." Jongdae tells her,

"Stop worrying about me and spend that time with your girlfriend." Eunhui teases him,

"Haera's busy with her final project." She can see the pout on her cousin's face,

"Speaking of, shouldn't you be preparing yours?" She asks,

"Text me if you're going to stay out late. Love you, Evee."

"You too, Pika." She hangs up, just as she reaches a bench, overlooking the Han river.

"Eunhui." Said girl startles at the voice, as a tall silhouette emerges from behind her, though he's keeping a safe distance from her.

"S-s-sehun." She stutters, shaking her head as she sees her bodyguard heading for Sehun.

"Did you hear about the verdict?" Sehun asks, choosing to lean on the railing, while she remains seated.

"I-i-if you're trying to make me feel guilty about it, sorry to disappoint you, but I don't." She tells him,

"That's not what I meant." She can see him lose his confident composure as he deeply sighs,

"I want to know if it helped you feel better." He asks,

"N-no. If anything, it makes me more upset. I know how much you hated the course. You never wanted to go into business, so it's like a blessing in disguise, for you." She says,

"I never realized just how much you know me. Not Oh Sehun, but simply Sehun." He smiles,

"W-w-when I first came here, my heart was reluctant to ever accept you, but I knew I had to at the least get to know you, if we were going to spend our lives together. S-so, I tried my best to learn everything about you. At the beginning when you were still pretending to be a caring person, I actually fell for it and started caring for you as a friend." She tells him,

"Looking back, I was always myself with you. I kept forgetting my plan at times, because I found myself liking how you were able to let me be myself, rather than the youngest son of Oh corps. I had to force myself to think about the plan." Sehun tells her,

"What's the point of telling me this?" She asks, looking at him for the first time that night.

"I started liking the feelings I felt whenever I spend time with you, which is why once college started, I fought so hard with coming to terms with them. And then the whole singing and Minji, I forced myself to forget about it because, I never wanted to accept that I fell in love with you." He confesses,

"Sehun, I'm not one to tell someone what they're feeling but, I highly doubt you even cared for me." She tells him,

"I know it's hard to believe it, but don't you think there had to be a reason behind my actions. I was so scared to admit my feelings, that I did the only thing I thought I could and that was to hurt you." He explains,

"Hurt? Sehun, your actions broke me." She tells him,

"I know, but I never understood that. Eunhui, I've never felt those feelings before. I was told we were getting married and it freaked me out. I was already being forced into getting a degree I didn't want, and to top it, the elders choose someone for me, it rubbed me the wrong way." He says,

"You broke me because I rubbed you the wrong way?" She asks, tears streaming down her face.

"I'm so sorry." He apologizes, slowly stepping towards her.

"Your apology means nothing to me." She cries,

"I know, I know, but I need you to know, how I feel. I need you to know that without me knowing, you became a huge part of my life. But I was too much of a coward to admit to my feelings because I still cared about my ego. I need you to know, that everything that I did was due to my inability to accept that I fell for you." He admits, taking another step forward.

"I know this is selfish, but Eunhui, please consider giving me another chance. I know you've given me countless chances, but I promise I won't lose this." Sehun begs, "I know Minseok and you aren't together. I know he left and I also know you don't want to marry him." He tells her,

"I love Minseok and he's the only one I'll ever love." She states.

"I know. I know that, and I'm still asking you for another chance. You said when you first came here, you started caring for me, I'm fine with that. I'm fine with being just friends, if it means I get to love you."

"Sehun."

"Please Eunhui. Think of it as my punishment. I get to be with the one I love, though she'll never be mine." Sehun asks, tears running down his cheeks as he looks at her hopefully.

"I can't Sehun. I can't hurt Minseok like that. I'm sorry." She rejects him, without a second thought.

"Was it not going to hurt him, when you came here a year ago?" Sehun asks,

"Before I came here, Minseok and I got into a car crash. The last thing I saw before I lost conscious, was the love of my life bleeding out. When I woke up, Minseok was still in a coma and his mother begged me to leave him. She said it was inevitable and they were unsure if Minseok would even wake up. I was banned from seeing him. I wanted to stay with him, but when the woman I grew to love as my mother-in-law was crying to me, I had no choice. I already hurt Minseok, I couldn't continue hurting the people around him. Which is why, when I first came here, I wasn't thinking logically, I was too lost in my emotions to think about how Minseok would take it." She tells him.

"If his mother was against your relationship then, what's to say she won't be against it now?" Sehun asks, Eunhui simply shrugs as she has no answer.

"Which is why I'm asking for another chance. You don't want to marry him, so instead of him, marry me." Sehun begs,

"I don't want Minseok to marry someone like me. I never said I didn't want to marry him. I love him Sehun. I fell in love with him before I even realized what love is. Regardless of what happens, I know I'll never stop loving him. Which is why I can't be with him. Minseok deserves all the happiness in the world and right now I can't even give myself happiness, much less anyone else." She confesses.

"I don't mind. I'll spend the rest of our lives doing my best to make you happy." Sehun tries to assure her,

"You can't, no one can make me happy, if I can't do it myself." She tells him.

"Eunhui, please. Give me another chance." He falls to his knees,

"That would be cruel to both you and I." She sniffs, trying to control her tears that refuse to cease.

Sehun looks helpless, understanding what she means, resulting in more tears as he loudly sobs. "I'm so sorry for being an idiot. I'm so stupid for losing what could have been the best things in my life. I'm so sorry." He cries.

She slowly walks closer to Sehun, patting his shoulder as he's still on his knees sobbing.

"I-I forgive you for everything you've put me through this past year. I think it's best if we put the past year behind us and move on with our lives." She tells him, when he suddenly wraps his arms around her hips, pressing his face into her stomach.

She's momentarily panicked but the soft sniffling is quick to bring her back,

"WHAT THE FU*K ARE YOU DOING?" The loud yell has Eunhui jumping away from Sehun, as Nayoung, Taehyung and Jongdae are sprinting over to them, looking ready to murder the kneeling male.

"We told you to stay the fu*k away from her." Jongdae yells, thankfully Eunhui has managed to pull Sehun behind her.

"We were simply talking." Eunhui tells them, not wanting them to hurt Sehun.

"Why would you talk to the piece of sh*t?" Nayoung scoffs, eyeing the taller male over her sister-in-law's shoulder.

"How the hell did you even meet? Were you stalking her?" Jongdae accuses, glaring at Sehun.

"Jongdae." Eunhui frowns,

"I come here often to clear my head." Sehun tells them, causing her three friends to look at her.

"So do I."

"Fine, but why were you talking to him?" Jongdae frowns, motioning her to go to them, causing her to roll her eyes.

"He was apologizing." Eunhui informs them, "And yes, I accepted. It's done. This is officially the end of our ill-fated relationship." She adds, seeing the doubt on her friend's faces.

"Eunhui." Sehun calls,

"Sehun, what you did was horrible and you need to learn how to treat people better, but having to live in a loveless marriage for the rest of your life is too cruel. Not even you deserve that. Rather than fight for something worthless, work on finding yourself and becoming a better you, that's how you can redeem yourself in my eyes." Eunhui tells him, giving him a small yet sincere smile.

"I don't think fighting for you is worthless. You may not ever love me, but you can grow to care for me. You make me want to become better. If you're worried about hurting Minseok, I can wait. I can wait until he's with someone else. I can wait for you until you're ready." Sehun tries once more.

"That's never going to happen. For Minseok, If it's not Evalyn, it's no one. My family has tried to get him to see others, but he's refused everyone." Taehyung interrupts,

"Sehun as much as I would love to see you suffer in a one-sided relationship, I want you away from my cousin. This better be the last time I catch you alone, or else I won't hesitate to beat you." Jongdae warns, guiding Evalyn away.

"I know you had feelings for Evalyn, however your actions have hurt her and no matter what you do to redeem yourself, you will always have that associated with you. The Zhangs aren't forgiving, but grandpa's friendship is stopping them from destroying you. I'm sure you're keeping track of what's happening to Kang Seungil and Moon Minji, if you don't stop approaching Evalyn, Yixing won't think twice before ruining you." Nayoung tells him,

"Does that mean I don't have the right to at least try to fight for Eunhui?" Sehun asks,

"Do you notice that?" Taehyung points out, "You still refer to her as Eunhui. You haven't even been the privilege to call her Evalyn, do you still think you have the right to fight for her." Taehyung asks,

"Sehun, I absolutely hate you. And as much as I want you to live a miserable life, don't you see that living with you would make Evalyn miserable as well. If it was only you, it might have been possible. But you keep forgetting your sister literally pushed until Evalyn was willing to kill herself. If you really care for her like you say you do, then think about the mental stress she would be in, having to relive the incident every time she sees your sister and you. Just logically think about it." Nayoung advices, before walking away with Taehyung.
