Heels clicked briskly on a chrome floor surface, with their owner walking equally briskly towards their set destination, clutching a clipboard to her chest. Carroll's office.
It was a simple affair, really, not one that she herself really needed to bother herself with. But of course, since it was Carroll's direct command to her, how could Lewis say no?
And so, the roses.
Ah, what an absolute nightmare the roses were. It was not only difficult to wheedle the gardener (and at the end, the florist, because the grumpy old man in her boss' garden absolutely refused to give her what she needed unless she had a permit of some sort. And of course, Carroll loves making her job difficult. So there) to give her the blossoms, but equally difficult to find a way to deliver them to where they had to go.
In the end. she had to opt for the more traditional and delayed method of sending scrolls of parchment with the message scrawled on it. Well, printed, really, but no one would know the difference.
But at last, at long last, Lewis had finished her job. And she was now striding with the confidence of one having fully accomplished their job (despite the lack of results as of yet) towards the boss' office, waiting to be showered with praise.
And as always, to be vastly disappointed.
"Ah, Miss Lewis. You're just in time." As soon as the doors swung open to announce her entry, she could see her supervisor's silhouette enjoying a cup of tea at the enormous desk while at the opposite sat another figure, also shrouded in shadow. "Allow me to introduce. This is 'Alice'. Now, before you snort at the name, my dear Miss Lewis - yes I could see you were about to do that - this person would be the leader of my valuable team, Wonderland. And like all wonderful leaders, Alice had arrived on time. So I must say, congratulations to you, my dear fellow." Carroll raised the teacup in mock toast to the figure, who merely nodded in assent. "There, don't stand there stupified. Close the door and take a seat."
As she slowly entered the room, she noticed something she hadn't before; that was to say, the large screen looming behind Carroll's chair, showing a world map of sorts with red dots scattered across it.
"This is...?"
"A proof of your work, firstly, because you had done as I said and put the GPS into the roses. Good girl. These track the agents who would join us shortly. I will be tracking their progress in case they are led, ah, astray."
Bewildered, the secretary sat down on her pencil skirt and continued staring at the monitor. Carroll allowed a slight smirk before assuming a more dignified expression, and set the tea cup down, lacing gloved fingers together.
"Let's watch, shall we?"
