Breaking, Braking Ice

- Choi's Yuna's P.O.V - 

It was the weekend and GFriend postponed our weekend exercise schedule as many of the members had family matters.

I was in bed lazing around when my phone buzzed. I reached for my phone and checked the message. 

"Lee...Seok...Min" I squinted my eyes and read the sender of the text. As soon as I said out his name, I accidentally dropped my phone on my face.

I sat up immediately, rubbing my nose. Why is Seokmin texting me this early in the morning?

I slapped my forehead and chuckled. We made plans to study together today. I proceeded to open the message.

I washed up and packed my bag. I made my bed before going down to have breakfast.

As I climbed down the stairs, the aroma of eggs penetrated my nose and I knew immediately my mother was in the kitchen. I greeted my father and mother before proceeding to have breakfast.

After I ate my breakfast, I thanked my mother and hugged her. I was about to wear my shoes when my father spoke to me.

"Yuna, I think you've had enough time in that performing school." My father said and put his newspaper aside. 

My eyes widened, what was he trying to say? "Huh?" I replied, clearly confused at what my father was trying to say. 

"I want you to stop going to a performing school and go to a normal school." My father curtly said and I instantly felt my body temperature rising. I breathed out. This isn't the first time he told me this.

"But I'm doing fine in school now." I answered politely, trying to conceal my frustration that could be mistaken for rudeness.

"So what if you're doing fine in school now? Does that help in your future?" My father continued and my mother had a concerned looked on her face.

"Your sister went to an academic-based school, took the bar exam and now she's a qualified lawyer. She received academic awards and even money. What about you? A singer? Can you sustain yourself in the future? Do you get a regular pay? Is fun all you can think about now?" My father continued his rant and I felt my fists clenching up.

From my peripheral vision, I could see my mother trying to stop my father from continuing. I tightened my jaw to stop myself from talking impulsively.

"Think it about, what chance do you stand? Wake up! I also want the best for you!" My father stood up and turned to me. I immediately felt stabs in my heart and my temple started to throb. My mother called out my father's name to stop him from continuing.

"I'm going out to study. Goodbye Mum, bye Dad." I said lowly being shoving my feet in my shoes and grabbing my bag. I stormed out of my house.

I couldn't see anything with all that anger burning.

Why doesn't my father believe in me? Why does he always compare me to my older sister, Yukyung? Does he even take my feelings into consideration? Does he not realise how unhappy she was?

Does he really care for me? Why does he say these things to hurt me?

I didn't even know where I was going until I knocked into someone, knocking me back to reality.

"Yuna?" The voice called and I jolted up and looked at the person who called my name. It was Seokmin.

"Good morning, Seokmin." I greeted, trying to force a smile on my face, hoping that I would also stop feeling the frustration.

Seokmin looked at me, as if he was studying my face. I quickly turned away, hoping he doesn't detect my anger and frustration.

"Should we go to our usual spot?" Seokmin said and I nodded my head. He flashed his wide smile and for some reason, I couldn't help but smile back.

- Lee Seokmin's P.O.V -

Yuna and I made plans to study together again. 

Our study sessions weren't just studying, we also had fun laughing and talking. She's a great friend, even though she does look reserved at times.

I always look forward to studying with her because it would be productive yet fun at the same time.

I was walking to our usual meeting place as felt someone knocked into me.

I turned and saw Yuna. She had her head down. "Yuna?" I said her name and she looked up immediately.

"Good morning, Seokmin." Yuna greeted with a forced smile. I could tell it was forced because she never smiled like that before. There was something in her eyes that told me she wasn't okay. I stared at her trying to read her emotions but she turned away, probably sensing what I was trying to do.

Yuna isn't usually like this. Her usual bubbliness was missing. "Should we go to our usual spot?" I said and she nodded. I smiled hoping she would smile.

She gave a genuine smile this time.

As we studied, Yuna was quieter than usual and this was worrying me. I have no idea why this is worrying me either. Our studying session was still productive and solid.

After a few hours, both our stomachs grumbled loudly and we looked up at each other. We nodded our heads and chuckled. We packed out stuff and went for lunch.

By the time we were out of the library, it was late afternoon and we settled for a small Korean eatery nearby.

As we were eating, I couldn't help but notice Yuna's weariness and sadness. As she was eating, she ate slower than usual, staring out at the window more than at her food.

"Yuna?" I called her and she turned her head from the window. "Y-yes?" She replied.

"Are you alright?" I asked cautiously, hoping that I'm not being a busybody.

Yuna looked like she wanted to scream immediately and I unknowingly held my breath in. Should I not have asked that? Yuna looked like she was contemplating whether or not to say anything.

"If you aren't comfortable or anything, it's okay-" I said and waved my hands but my speech was cut off as I saw a tear rolling down her cheek. My hands dropped as tears streamed down gently on her cheeks. She sniffed softly as she looked down.

I was shocked. I didn't know what to do. I took some tissues and placed in her hands. She nodded as a sign of thanks and wiped her tears.
