“Who is person which stupid enough to keep this café open at valentine night?” Hyukjae asked sarcastically although he had known the answer.

“Me.” Comes a reply from kitchen followed by Donghae appear from behind the door and carefully put a freshly decorated cake at cake display.

“Right! You. This café only run by us now, the other employee prefer to spend their valentine night with person they love yet you insist to keep the café open. And now what the result?” once again Hyukjae let his words hanging in mid air.

“You were doing double job. As waiter and cashier and me as pastry chef and sometimes cashier too.”

“Exactly! We look like dumb person running around the café to serve the customer right here and over there and still must watching the customer which mostly couples enjoying their date with jealousy inside my heart. All of peoples seem to be happy at valentine day but not me!” Hyukjae huffed in annoyance. He strides to one empty table after the visitor leave and start wiping off the table. He had asked Donghae to close the café before dinnertime but his oh-so-called best friend and pastry chef at his café insists to open the café 24 hour, only for today. Reason out that in the day of love Hyukjae should spread more love with delicious cake on his cafe. “I even didn’t make a valentine event in this café but why they still coming with their lover. Just come alone without your lover won’t give you any harm, you know.” Hyukjae muttered under his breath. He’s the owner of that place yet he acted like the worker in that café, since all of his employee except Donghae refused to doing overtime work although he had offering a good bonus, left him with no choice except take over his employee job.

Donghae chuckled when he watching his best friend slash his crush, working while nagging under his breath but his expression will changed immediately when new visitor come despite he just complaining about why the customer always come to the café in pair and not alone in this valentine night.

“Let’s closed this café now. I think no more visitors will come. Are you didn’t want to going out with your boyfriend?” Eunhyuk once again persuaded Donghae but his stubborn chef just shook his head.

“I don’t have one. Why, do you want to go out with your boyfriend?”

“I don’t have one too. My last boyfriend broke up with me because of you.” Hyukjae pouted.

“He’s a jerk!” Donghae exclaimed. “He said he was go shopping with his sister but we saw him kissed his sister passionately. What a very close sibling relationship!” Donghae continued bitterly. He still couldn’t forgive Hyukjae’s boyfriend who made Hyukjae crying every night for a week, but because of that, he able to show his little attention to Hyukjae by sending him a piece of strawberry cake every day, secretly of course. And although Hyukjae had confront him about that, he always deny everything.

“I know. But sometimes I always wondering, why you didn’t have boyfriend since your last broke up?”

“Because my best friend hasn’t found one. Be my boyfriend Hyuk and we’ll have boyfriend for each other this valentine.”

“Keep dreaming.” Hyukjae smacked Donghae’s head lightly; he tried to feel annoyed with him but his smile betraying him.

“I will.”

The bell clinked, they turned their attention to the sound source and the new customer makes both of them dumbfounded.

There, stood a woman clad in a wedding dress. Her makeup no longer makes her face pretty. Donghae and Hyukjae recognize the girl almost immediately. She’s girlfriend of Hyukjae’s ex.

“Can I sit here for a moment? Rain was pouring too hard at outside.” Indeed, the rain was pouring hard which explained why she’s drenched too. Lucky for her, she’s the only visitor now. Despite his angry feeling with this girl but Hyukjae muster his empathy and handed a cup of warm tea for her. He sat across her and say nothing while Donghae watching behind cashier desk.

“I’m sorry.” Donghae’s and Hyukjae’s attention refocused after hearing the first word slip out from the girl lips. “I was so selfish back then. I thought he loves me more than he loves you but I was wrong. He didn’t have love inside his heart that’s why he hurt me. Worse than he hurts you.” Fresh tears trickled down her cheek. Hyukjae softly offered a tissue for her. No longer feels annoyed with her presence. “Today we supposedly become husband and wife but he leave me at altar. Send me to the depth of humiliation tunnel.”

“Where’s your family? I think they’ll there when you’ll hold your wedding ceremony.” Hyukjae asked.

The girl shook her head, “Since beginning my family never permitting our relationship. I think our love will able to conquer everything including my family permission but I was wrong.” She dabbed her cheek, “He’s bastard! I’ll never forgive him.” She turned her head to window and saw the rain had become drizzle. “I’ll go home now. I hope my family still wants to accept me.” She was about to pay her tea but Hyukjae forbid her to doing so, he even call a taxi for her. After the girl left, he changed the door sign to ‘close’ and sat at his previous position. His face suddenly gloomy.

“Stop that ugly expression, Hyuk! Let’s play scrabble.” Donghae who sense the melancholic ambience tried to cheer up his best friend. He put the scrabble at table and sat at opposite end of Hyukjae’s seat.

“I’m not in the mood, Hae.” Hyukjae said softly. Sadness was quite visible in his eyes. He put his chin on his folded arm.

“What is it?” Donghae asked slowly. His hand was still busy with his scrabble.

“I thought Valentine day is day of love but I never know Valentine day can be so painful for someone else.”

“Do you mean that girl?”

Hyukjae nodded.

“Valentine day literally is same with other day,  Hyuk. There’s nothing special about today. Nothing changed at Valentine day. The cat still meowing, The bird still chirping, the traffic still crowded, the sky still blue and not changed to pink, everything still going normally so no wonder if someone else also get hurt this day. But maybe the memories will more painful than the other day because Valentine day has known as day of love. You supposedly get love or confessing your love or strengthen your love today and not losing your love.” Donghae smiled softly. He reaches out his hand and ruffled Hyukjae’s blue hair softly.

“I’m afraid if one day the person I love will hurt me at Valentine day, Hae. The feeling must be so painful and unforgettable.”

“No, that won’t happen. Because, I won’t hurt you at Valentine day or at any other day, Hyuk.”

“I know. You’re my best friend after all.”

“What will happen if I say I love you, Hyuk?”

“You always said you love me, Hae.”

“No. Not that kind of love. The romantic one.” The last word comes above whisper and Donghae didn’t dare to look at his best friend directly. He only look on scrabble board.

“What?” Hyukjae asked confusedly.

Donghae sighed. He stood up and walked to kitchen. Few moments later, he sat back with a plate of strawberry cake on his hand. The very same strawberry cake he always secretly gives to Hyukjae. “Familiar with this?”

Hyukjae eyes widen, he looks up to him with hundred questions inside his eyes. “That’s you! I knew it! Tell me your reason, Hae? Why you never admit it?”

“Well, because I want to treat you as someone more than best friend. If I tell you that were me who send that cake, your feeling toward me won’t change. You’ll consider that cake as a best friend treat and not something else.”

“And you think the best thing is keep the cake anonymously?”

“I…guess so...” Donghae trailed off, not really sure what he should say next.

For the first time in their befriend time, an awkward silent was enveloping them. Donghae playing with his scrabble pieces and Hyukjae with his cake. Trying to find perfect word to continue the conversation, since Hyukjae finally understands Donghae’s feeling toward him and Donghae suddenly felt shy.

“Let’s end this awkwardness, Hae. Tell me what you should tell me!” Hyukjae demanded but Donghae kept silent. He just arranges the scrabble pieces after that he showed it to Hyukjae.

“Will you be my Valentine?” Hyukjae read aloud. He, once again, smacks his best friend forehead lightly, “Of course, babo.”

Donghae smiled. He once again arranges his scrabble pieces.

“Can I kiss you?” Hyukjae read aloud again. He looks up to Donghae with pink blush on his cheek, “Su-Sure.” He said shyly.

Donghae leaned over the table, slowly touch Hyukjae face and watching how Hyukjae’s eyes slowly shut as he pressed his lips on Hyukjae’s soft lips and his eyes closed too.

Drizzle still pouring outside and valentine day already passed but that wasn’t the important matter now. The important thing was they finally found their other half, not only as best friend but also as lover.
