Inspired by The Corrs song What Can I Do?

Summary : The one and only Lee Hyukjae who made a certain Lee Donghae infatuation, still doesn’t want to accept Donghae love and made Donghae thinking again about everything. Is Hyukjae love him too, or he really only loves Donghae as friends?

What Can I Do?

Donghae pov

So, after one year I do anything that I think will made Hyukjae love me and believe my genuine feeling (although almost all of my plan failed or half succeed), now I stuck in one point that made me re-thinking about everything. Everything I do for him, every word that spilled from him, and every moment happen between us in this past one year.

Flashback

The first time I do is stalking him every morning, erm, stalking maybe sound a little bit psycho, quietly usher maybe more suitable. After Halloween mask party, I started gathering information about Hyukjae. Where he lives, with who he lives, his daily schedule, his friends and other information about him including his favorite thing in the world, strawberry. So every morning before 7am (he always out from his house at 7am, take a bus in 7.15am, his college schedule start at 8.30am, he will come back home at 6pm if he doesn’t have other schedule. He will waiting at bus stop near bakery shop although that bus stop a little bit too far from bus stop near university building. Sometimes I see him munching something that look like strawberry shortcake- see I remember all of his daily schedule and his activity, I’m genius, but Kyuhyun say it creepy.). I usually waiting around the corner street near his house. After he out from his house and start walking to bus stop, I start following behind him silently. When he got on the bus, I will hurriedly driving my car to my university building, only to make sure I will see Hyukjae entering this building too.

I remember, once Kyuhyun had ask me, where I’m going every morning. I just said, I’m out for jogging. “Oh yeah, right, jogging. Now is new trend, huh hyung, jogging wearing shirt, jeans and sunglasses?” sneered him that day. “Alright, alright. I'm following Hyukjae secretly every morning” and Kyuhyun only give me are-you-kidding-me-hyung look. “I don’t want Hyukjae get hurt or get into trouble when he going to college, you know.” I try to give my best reason. “Are you serious hyung?. I know where Hyukjae lives and his place only 500 m from bus stop. Every day he walk passed police station and busy 24hr convenient store, so I think he will save without you secretly following him only to make sure he’s fine” Kyuhyun stated firmly. I hate him, because he’s right, but I don’t want to lose. “I don’t care. You never know when crime will happen to you, you know.” said me with tone that stated I don’t want continue this conversation. Kyuhyun just rolled his eyes, sighed and continue abusing his keyboard playing Starcraft.

The second thing I do, I try to always beside Hyukjae. I admit that a little bit difficult, because his schedule and my schedule not same. I will try always near him when lunch, try to clingy with him in dance club in campus (oh yeah, I’m joining this club too before I know Hyukjae, but I'm rarely come. So when I know he join this club, I started to came every day.), joking with him and sometimes I confess my feeling to him by joking, but he always said “I know Hae, but I still can’t accept your feeling. I had boyfriend remember” that is the sentences spilled from his lips every time I confess my feeling. Yeah, ‘boyfriend’. I know he doesn’t have any boyfriend, but if he want me to believe that, I will pretending believe that Hyukjae has boyfriend.

The third thing I do, I asked him to drive him home. Of course he refuses, but I told him I don’t have other motive, beside it’s 9pm and raining outside. I see he thinking, and after a few second he say yes (this happen after I know Hyukjae 6 month). I driving out of university area when suddenly I heard his stomach grumble. “Are you hungry, Hyukkie” I asked him with smile on my face, “N-No, I’m not hungry. Just drive me to home, Hae” he answered with blushing in his face. “Okay, wait a minute.” I parked my car near the coffee shop who almost closed, I hope they still have something or anything. Lucky me, they still have strawberry pancake and blueberry cheesecake. I buy all of them along with two glasses hot chocolate. “Here, eat this, Hyukkie.” I give him the food and hot chocolate I got from that coffee shop and I tried to drying my hair using my jacket. “Why you want to running in the middle of rain only for buying me food, Hae. Why you do this?” he asked me with his curious eyes stared me.

Seriously, I think he had already know the answer of his question. When I see his eyes, I don’t know it is true or that is just part of my imagination, but I can see something behind his eyes, a hidden emotion that I can’t put a finger on it. It’s like a mixed of longing, waiting, hoping and I don’t know what else. “I..erm..” I hesitated. Should I say it again now?. Serious and not joking like usual. But it must be feel awkward for both of us. “Because..erm..because we are chingu, yeah, chingu.” I nod my head to emphasize my reason. “Oh, okay then. Thank you.” He said softly, but I can feel a little bit disappointment in his voice (Aish, stop it Donghae..!!-I mentally slapped myself because imagined too much-). We eat inside car silently, after a few minutes, I started to driving again.

Finally, we arrive in Hyukjae house when rain has stopped, I see other car parked in front of Hyukjae house. The silver car that I see in parking lot at Halloween party last year. “Oh, that’s my boyfriend” I heard Hyukjae chirped happily but I just smile, he doesn’t know, right now in my head, I can see my other Donghae laughing hard. He climbed out from my car. “Thank you, Hae for take me home. But I just want to ask something, how you know my address whereas you never ask me where I live?” he asked me, I just cursing under my breath, stupid Donghae, I forgot to pretending that I don’t know his house. “That..erm..that’s because..” I heard other voice calling Hyukjae, “Yes, one more minute!. I think I should go now, bye.” I let out my breath that without aware had I hold up. “Aish, almost caught.”

The fourth thing I do, I remember give him flower in his birthday. I swore if I can reverse time, I will do that. That day, I buy the nicest flower bouquet and give them to him. He start sneezing after accept that flower, “I..hatchi..allergic..hatchi..flower pollen, Hae..hatchi..” he keep sneezing, I felt guilty. “Ah, I should bought you a bouquet of strawberry than a bouquet of flower. Mianhae, Hyukkie” I bowed my head, but I felt a hand tap my head. “Don’t sad, Hae…hatchi.. I’m not mad..hatchi..thank you”, I lift my face and see him smile his gummy smile. God, now I love him more than before, he really kind hearted.

The fifth thing I do, I asked him to go out with me for dinner, but he always refused my request and using his ‘boyfriend’ as an excuse. After I’m pleading, convincing him this just dinner as friends, whining and almost crying, finally he agreed. “Geez, I never know you really a stubborn person if you don’t get what you want, Hae” he commented in my car when we leaving Hyukjae's house. I laughed and said “I just stubborn for something that really precious for me, Hyuk.” He smile shyly and not dare to see my eyes (this is our first dinner after 11 month befriend with him).

Nothing special happened during our dinner. We just talking about family, everyday activity, and hobby that’s it. After dinner, I ask him to grab a couple drink in bar, but he refused. He said, he isn't drinking alcohol. I'm shocked, I don’t know about that. So finally we just drink coffee in a little cozy coffee shop. I want to take him to my house, but my stupid, erm, my genius roommate said, he will use our apartment for quiet and romantic dinner with Sungmin until midnight. That stated clearly, I'm must stay away from our apartment as long as possible. Our dinner (although I prefer to call it our very first date) ended beautifully, that's the first thing I thought, but I guess, I'm wrong.

I take him home and I see that silver car again, but now I see the familiar scene like what I see in parking lot at Halloween party last year. The feminine man and the muscle man, if I’m not wrong, they name is Heechul and Siwon. I see Hyukjae dumbfounded, his face as red as tomato, he quickly scrambled out from my car before I can stopped him, “Thank you for this beautiful dinner Hae and mianhae.” he said that before ran into his house. After that night, I feel Hyukjae slightly away from me. Maybe he embarrassed or maybe he feels guilty, I don’t know.

Flashback end

It’s almost one month Hyukjae avoid me and made me thinking for surrender, just keeping my feeling inside my broken heart. Honestly, I doubt I can do that. Only thinking about stop loving Hyukjae for one day made my heart aching. It feels like thousands needle stabbing my heart, again and again. I'm sighed and continue daydreaming about Hyukjae. “Ah..What can I do to make you love me, Hyukjae?. What can I do to make you care?” I whispered softly.

Donghae pov end

“Lee Donghae-sshi, are you still listening my lecture?” Donghae heard someone called his name, but he’s not interested to listening. “Psst…Donghae. Stop daydreaming or you will dead now.” whispered Chansung who sit beside him, but Donghae too immersed with his own world, so he can’t hear Chansung voice until Dongwoon who sit behind him hit his head with ruler. “Ya, why you hit me?” yelled Donghae who turned back to see Dongwoon see straight at front of class. Donghae turned his back again and see to front of class, and immediately regret that. “I think you start give your attention to me, Lee Donghae-sshi. Detention, stay in this class after this hour. I will give you assignment. This is warning for the other people in this class too. Never ignore my lecture.” Donghae sighed again, and slumped in his desk.
