College Experiences“Our first musical of the year is coming up so I expect everyone to be promoting to the absolute maximum!!” Heechul declared from the stage, gaining the attention of the large group gathered in the seats below him.
“If you want to have a part in the next show I suggest you don't take this duty lightly – I want your great grandparents across the country to know that the great Kim Heechul and his minions are putting on the best stage performance of Agitha the world has ever seen!”
Ryeowook nodded along with the rest of the group, trying to ignore the amused snort that came from Sungmin beside him. The older boy was one of the only people Ryeowook had seen stand up to Heechul and his crazy methods of running the theatre club, the older taking Ryeowook under his wing when he first joined, pair becoming fast friends.
“Freshman! I expect all of you to be joining our vice president Sungmin over the week to help hand out flyers in the quad – see him before you leave today to figure out when you're needed. The rest of you are dismissed.” the blonde finished, walking off the stage with a flourish before everyone else started to filter out of the theatre.
Ryeowook just remained seated, smiling at the unamused expression on the elders face as the small group of freshmans gathered around him.
Sungmin sighed. “Well...lets get started.”
---
That was how Ryeowook found himself in the middle of the quad Wednesday afternoon, nearly shaking from nerves as he took his assigned stack of flyers. He'd managed to stutter out an awkward pitch to a couple of people before Sungmin approached him, throwing an arm around his shoulders comfortingly.
“Wook, are you alright? There's no need to be so nervous.”
“I know...” Ryeowook mumbled. “...I just get shy about approaching random people.”
Sungmin turned the smaller to face him, looking at the younger with a smile. “Okay first, take a big deep breath. In-” Sungmin in a big gulp of air, Ryeowook smiling as he copied the other before the elder exhaled, Ryeowook copying as he felt his shoulders start to relax. “-and out. Good. Now I want you to pretend that you're taking part in a performance. Talking to everyone is just another part of the script.”
Shoving his his nerves to the back of his mind Ryeowook nodded, Sungmin whispering a good luck before Ryeowook stepped forward to meet an approaching girl with a smile. With Sungmin's help and guidance he eventually managed to hand out over half his pile successfully, nerves gradually disappearing the more he got used to approaching people.
“Does Heechul always make us advertise the musicals this way?” Ryeowook sighed, leaning down to refill his stack, Sungmin chuckling beside him.
“Its what Heechul considers an easy way to figure out how well he can control the newbies. Don't worry, at least you don't get stuck doing this every year.” the older grimaced.
Ryeowook laughed lightly, patting Sungmin's back comfortingly before he moved back out across the quad to his assigned position outside the coffee shop.
He finished handing off another set of flyers to a couple walking past before he turned back to the shop, colliding with someone just coming out the door. Ryeowook stumbled backwards, flyers tumbling from his arms as he tried to steady himself.
Catching himself before he could fall backwards he looked up into Kyuhyuns wide eyes, the tallers arms already outstretched ready to catch him, Ryeowook felt the colour rise to his cheeks, dropping his gaze to his feet. Immediately he whined, dropping to his knees to try and salvage the scattered flyers.
“Wook are you alright?” Kyuhyun asked gently, kneeling down beside the other to help pick up the pieces of paper.
“I will be as long as these flyers aren't too damaged and Heechul doesn't find out I dropped them.” he mumbled, frowning at the slight creases in one of them.
“I meant you dummy, I'm sorry for walking into you, I wasn't paying attention.” Kyuhyun replied, Donghae snorting above them as he reached over to help Ryeowook get to his feet.
“Nice to see you Ryeowook.” he added, Ryeowook smiling at the older boy as he took Kyuhyun's pile of flyers with a shy nod.
“Wookie are you alright!?” A loud voice called from behind him, Ryeowook turning to see Sungmin running up to them, concerned masking his features. Ryeowook nodded. Letting the older boy fret over him before the elder turned away, eyeing a frowning Kyuhyun angrily.
“Min its fine its not Kyu's fault...” he whispered, Ryeowook thankful as Donghae stepped in to quickly defuse the awkward tension. As the older pair chatted about an upcoming test they both had Ryeowook shuffled towards Kyuhyun, squaring his shoulders and staring seriously up at the taller boy as he ed a flyer into his amused hands.
“At the end of the month the theatre club, under the guidance of superstar Kim Heechul, will be performing their first show of the year with the musical Agitha. Please anticipate an amazing performance by our club members and consider buying a ticket before the shows completely sell out.” he recited, the older pair observing them amusedly while Kyuhyun smiled at the flyer.
“Nice sell.” he replied, gaze moving up to look at the shorter boy with a soft smile. “But I was planning on attending to support you anyway so I already have my tickets.”
“Y-You don't have to do that, I don't have that big of a part...” Ryeowook spluttered, feeling his shyness return in full force.
Kyuhyun shrugged, lopsided grin spreading across his face. “It'll be worth it.”
Ryeowook's cheeks darkened, Kyuhyun leaning across to snatch another couple of flyers from the pile, making sure he had the slightly crumpled ones.
“I'll pass one on to Changmin for you, he'll be excited to hear about it.” he smiled, Ryeowook frowning in confusion.
“What's the third flyer for then?”
With a cheeky grin Kyuhyun shoved the paper into Donghae's face, the older spluttering as he tried to get it off of him. Ryeowook bit his lip in an attempt to hold in his giggle, Kyuhyun starting to drag the older away with a laugh.
“The two of us should be heading back to the dorms now, wanna meet up later for dinner?”
“Sure.” Ryeowook smiled, Kyuhyun's grin widening in return.
'Awesome – have fun!” he called, waving happily as Donghae rolled his eyes amusedly, nodding goodbye to both Sungmin and Ryeowook.
“Is that seriously the friend you're always going on about?” the older asked, watching the two figures continue to walk away.
Ryeowook gave him a small nod, smiling at the loud snort Sungmin gave in reply. “You have amazing taste, don't you.”
Ryeowook just grinned. “I have you don't I?”
