Chapter 025: Reassurance in Lies

Operation Kill This Love

Everything seemed to move slowly in Seoul Arts on Wednesday, especially in one particular freshmen classroom. Kim Yugyeom, the usually attentive listener in the class, was doodling away in his notebook, paying no mind to his surroundings or to the teacher's wise but boring words. He felt painfully alone, and with the fact that Junhong had left school for 'family' purposes, there was no one beside him to make him think otherwise. As he was doodling the time away, he paid no attention to familiar brown eyes watching him from behind.

BamBam, who was sadly sitting a couple desks behind the youngster, couldn't help but feel remorse for his companion. He knew that he shouldn't feel guilty, he didn't do anything involving Jaebum's disappearance. Actually, scratch that; it was the fact that he didn't do anything to prevent it that made him upset. His best friend was in emotional pain, and probably had been since the first vanishing, and the Thai boy couldn't do anything to stop it.

'Mark did have to face a consequence, but why must everyone suffer the very same?'

Kunpimook sighed, staring at the boy longingly. Yugyeom's slouched and shallow moving shoulders were an obvious expression of lack of sleep. BamBam would always grow worried whenever Yug was in this kind of state, even if it was a rare occurrence.

‘Jun-hyung...why did you have to hide too? You could’ve at least stayed until Dada would...’

He pinched himself in the arm as punishment for his trailing thoughts. He knew why Junhong had left; none of his real family were around to make the excuse seem plausible in BamBam's eyes. However, the boy couldn’t do or say much about it, since it was all ‘part of the operation’.

There were no words to properly describe how much he hated that excuse.

Not only were the people he cared for put into this, but what was to become of them, and possibly Mark, after it was all over. Yeah, he didn’t know most of anything else- he was only a trainee under their commands -but he knew the gist of it. He wanted to be able to help; to tell them anything and everything in hopes of doing some justice on his behalf, or perhaps put the god forsaken ordeal to a close. Alas, he swore to keep his mouth shut, and his eyes and ears open only about the subject.

“Mister Bhukwakul!” The teacher snapped.

“Ye-yes, ma’am?”

“Please, pay more attention to the lesson. You too, Yugyeom.”

BamBam looked down at the desk in embarrassment, whereas Yugyeom only hummed in reply. The teacher continued on with the lecture, attention turned to the board, letting BamBam look at the younger again. Yugyeom seemed to have ignored the teacher’s warning and laid his head down on the desk, completely blocking out everything around him. This worried the somewhat-older male; his Yug was the cute nerd of their group, and for him to just sit their and mope was a major red light.

‘I need to go over there...’

He looked at the teacher, and felt himself loosen up at the sight of them writing away on the whiteboard.

‘Great. Now to see if I can be as quiet as the hyungs...’

Kunpimook tried to quietly push himself and the chair away from the worktable, thankfully being successful.

‘So far so good.’

He slid himself off the chair, kneeling down to hide himself from any wandering eyes; students were giving him funny looks nonetheless, since he was easy to spot. He began to crawl on his hands and knees to his saddened companion’s desk.

‘Please don’t look, please don’t look, please don’t look.’

BamBam reached the empty chair with no trouble, and silently got up from the dusty ground and sat before the teacher turned their attention back to the class. They looked over to small groups of students, with beady and alerted eyes, trying to find anything fishy. Although it was quite obvious that BamBam wasn’t really in his proper desk, the teacher only shrugged and went back to writing.

‘Success!’

Yugyoem lifted his head up slightly and looked over at BamBam, confused and somewhat surprised at the unknown desk partner. The eldest of the two, however, only smiled and wrapped his arm around the younger’s shoulder, rubbing his arm lovingly.

“I’m here to keep you company, Yugi.” he whispered. “Frowning doesn’t suit a cute face like yours.”

The only thing Yug felt he was able to do in that position was blush at his hyung’s kindness.

The end of the school day was upon the student body, each teasing tick from the wall clock causing anxious behavior in every class. BamBam and Yugyeom were arm-in-arm in their last class, as they were luckily desk partners in there. The younger of the two seemed in a lighter mood; he didn’t smile as much as BamBam would like, but at least he was listening to their teacher. After the surprise that Yug was given one of their morning classes, he acted as if weight had suddenly been lifted off his shoulders, even if it was a tiny bit.

This didn't stop Kunpimook's worrying though, as he kept himself glued to the latter's side at all times, especially during their lunch period. Yugyeom couldn't help but feel lonely at how empty their table was beginning to be; BamBam couldn't help but feel the same. It was reassuring to have Mark and Jackson around them, sure, but it just didn't feel right not to have one or both of the 'parents' there with them.

BamBam looked at the clock thoughtfully, and mentally counted the seconds.

'Three...two...one...'

The bell rang just as he counted the last second, somewhat surprising himself with the accuracy. Nonetheless, they and their fellow classmates grabbed their bags and evacuated the room.

"See you tomorrow, kids! Be safe!" Their teacher yelled out.

BamBam walked through the hallway with linked arms once more, hoping in secret that they were able to meet their friends peacefully in the front. Luckily, there wishes were granted, as they had found their elders leaning against the railing patiently.

"Hey hyungs~." BamBam chirped.

"Hey, Flintstone Boy." Jackson greeted teasingly.

'.'

Mark went immediately to the youngest's side, and placed both his hands on the taller maknae's shoulders.

"Hey Yug, how're you feeling?"

Yugyeom, of course, nodded and reassured the Tuan he was just fine.

"Okay...I'm just making sure..."

BamBam eyed Mark suspiciously.

'Why is he acting so-...oh yeah.'

There were times Kunpimook would forget who Mark really was outside the school grounds; outside their small group of friends. It was still hard to even think that he wasn’t so quick to just end it all already, with how irritated that he always seemed to be with Jackson near him. Then again, the most unpredictable things can happen without explanation, so BamBam couldn’t say much.

“BamBam-hyung.” Yugyeom called out, waving his hand in front of the shorter boy's face. “Are you gonna walk home with me today?”

“Oh- uh, yeah, of course I am!”

“Alright.”

Yugyeom grabbed his dark-haired friend by the hand and started tugging him away from the school grounds. This small intimate touch surprised BamBam, but he was thankfully able to keep his blush, along with his shock, down.

'Goddamnit, I should be used to this by now!'

Nevertheless less, they walked along the concrete hand-in-hand to Yug's cozy little home, which was just enough time, in Yugyeom's opinion, for him to start asking some questions.

"Hey, BamBam?"

"Hm? What's up, Yugi?"

"Have you...have you been, uh...doing things?"

Kunpimook looked at the younger puzzled.

"What do you mean?" He wondered.

"Like..."

Yugyeom went silent for a bit, as if thinking of what to respond with.

"Like..." He began again, "Oh god, no, nevermind, I don't want to sound like an about this."

Now this was really confusing BamBam. He stopped walking, which surprised the younger, and pulled him off to the grassy side of the concrete.

"Yugyeom," The short Thai said sternly, "is something bothering you? What do you mean by doing things?"

The younger bit his lip, looking down at the grass, as if embarrassed or guilty.

"BamBam...do you really not know much about the sudden kidnappings?"

Both parties were silent. Kunpimook felt shocked at the question, and to hear it from not only his best friend, but the next one on the list, really twisted his heart up.

"Why...why do you think I would know something about this? Do you think I'm involved in the crimes?"

"No!!" Yugyeom whined. "I wasn't making that assumption at all, 'Mook! I...I was just...kind of hoping you knew at least something more than the possible clue you told the officer yesterday..."

'Yes, Yugyeom!' Kunpimook screamed in his head. 'I know basically everything that is ing happening!! I'm part of it, Mark's part of it; ZELO WAS A PART OF IT!! Please please please believe me, please-'

"Yug..." BamBam placed a hand on the younger's shoulder, grabbing their attention. "I'm sorry...But I really don't know anything else."

"Oh..." The latter replied. "Alright...a-and I'm sorry if I offended you, BamBam..."

The elder chuckled weakly, and said, "It's alright, Yugi. To be honest, I wish I knew more to tell you."

Then, after their long awkward silence, they went back on their trail to the Kim household.

'I'm sorry, Yugyeom...I'm so, so sorry...'

(Note: ...Well . Anyways, if you couldn't tell, I finally confirmed the thing most of you may have already figured out: The unknown Seventh member of B.A.P. Of course, this was so obviously hinted, but I just had to show it as a confirmed suspicion ^^' Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to try and write the next chapter without getting killed by a Yugyeom/BamBam-biased friend of mine!! Wish me luck, my lovely pyschopaths, I'm gonna need it XD
