Chapter 018: Nightly SheBANG

Operation Kill This Love

Zelo and his partner were sitting on the top of a tree solemnly, eyes beginning to wet from boiling emotions.

“Jun-hyung, do you have to do this?”

The older boy looked over at his friend, a small but doubtful smile slipping out.

“I gotta do it,” he replied melancholy, “Mark’s pushing away his duties, and he has to pay the price for it.”

This week wasn't the best week for poor Park Jinyoung.

It was a friday afternoon, meaning school had just let out, and he was heading home alone that day. You would think that, after the traumatic event that happened on Wednesday, he would be accompanied by his father or his precious bodyguard boyfriend, but that wasn’t the case. His father was stuck in a boring meeting back in the school, and his boyfriend claimed that he had somewhere important to be, and had to be there that Friday. As disappointed as he was, he only smiled and gave them both their hug, Jaebum a kiss on the cheek, and was off.

Now there he was, in the cool autumn air, looking at the concrete ground below as he was heading to an empty home. Usually, there was no need for him to feel so alone, but since the Youngjae Incident, he couldn’t help himself; Youngjae was his little happy boy. A sigh escaped his slightly chapped lips, as the recurring scene flashed through his mind; the scene that he oh-so pleasantly woke up to when he the news.

As he recalled, the Coffee Shop was in its designated spot in all its glory, with an unflattering amount of police vehicles taking up multiple parking spaces. The news lady was there, talking into her mic as some pictures of his little Youngjae were popping up as she explained his disappearance. It didn’t click at first, a buzz going through his tired little head, but once he heard the repeated the message of ‘he’s gone missing’, everything clicked and lead him to a silent depression.

Jinyoung didn’t notice that he spaced out until he felt a sudden force, which led to him falling -first to the ground. He let out a quiet string of swears before looking over, then up, at the person, only to see that it was none other than Zelo.

“Sorry, Jin-hyung! I didn’t see you there!” The young giant said, as he pulled the other up to his feet.

“It’s alright,” Jinyoung replied, “I wasn’t paying much attention either.”

Junhong looked around the area, then back at the smaller hyung with a confused expression.

"Where's the other hyung? Did you guys go to his place first?"

The latter shook his head in reply, a sad smile crossing his soft face.

"He had something to do today...I don't know what, but I guess it was something important."

Zelo pouted at this, masking the devious smile that tugged at him.

“What a shame.” He replied, “So are you just going home alone?"

"Yeah...I don't have anything important to do, except maybe hang out with Jaebongi tomorrow, if it's possible."

"Well that doesn't sound fun!"

The elder couldn't help but agree, but kept his lips shut. As much as it bothered him that his Jaebum wasn't spending a lot of time with him as of late, there must've been a good reason for it. Jinyoung knew his boyfriend, and when the time comes, Jaebum would tell him what it was all about for sure.

"Wait...Hyung, how about you hang out with me for the rest of the day? I don't think it would be good for you to be all alone like this, especially after...you know..."

Those words were exactly what Jinyoung had been wanting to hear all day, and Zelo knew it. The boy's smile started to creep onto his cheeky face as the small hyung's eyes gleamed with hidden joy, an unfamiliar childish visage.

"I can?! I mean-" Jinyoung cleared his throat. "Sure, I mean, if you're really okay with that."

"Great...let's hit the Arcade then."

'I shouldn't have made that threat...'

"Oh my god, Zelo! How have you not lost your stepping yet?" Jr. hollered at the dancing giant before him.

They've been in the Arcade for over two hour, and they were kicking at every game they could get their hands on; Dance Dance Revolution was a perfect example. Zelo was unstoppable as he danced against each coming competitor, gaining a bigger crowd and more cheering fans as the games went on. Even Jinyoung, who would usually brag about his so-called skills on the dancefloor, was shocked to see himself beaten at his own favorite game.

It wasn’t until he noticed that the crowd was clapping that he even realized the last match was over, and when Junhong victoriously stepped off his pedestal.

"What were you saying, Mister 'King of Dance'? I couldn't quite hear you over the many butts I was kicking."

The older of the two scoffed, rolling his eyes with a small grin. He didn't want to say anything about, not only to save his nonexistent title, but to keep the kid smiling a bit more. As long as the boy had been going to the school, which wasn't really that long ago, he was more mature than either him or Jaebum had expected from a young face; seeing him so happy and childish like that almost made Jinyoung feel special.

"Hey boys!"

They turned their attention towards who seemed to be the manager, who looked like an irritable middle-aged man, possibly in his forties.

"The place is closing, get yer arses outta here!"

Stifling their laughter, they slowly told their Arcade companions goodbye and left the old man to grumble away.

They both began their long journeys home together, as they had learned they lived in the same area, and even better, the same neighborhood. The winds were visibly stronger as the trees nearby swayed to and fro, and almost knocking the duo down on occasion. It was almost like a game to them, trying to see who was the strongest out of the two of 'em as they walked.

Then what seemed like forever, the wind died down to a small breeze, leaving the children silent and almost awkward.

"So..." Junhong murmured, "Are you catching up with the classes? I mean, missing a day of school here seems to take a grand toll on your grades."

"Oh, well, I got it all done, thanks to some help from Young- Jaebum! I got help from Jaebum. Yeah."

Zelo could've sworn he heard the other's voice crack.

"You okay?" He asked worriedly, putting a caring hand on Jinyoung's shoulder.

The latter nodded shyly, replying, "Yeah, I'm just used to someone else being my helping hand..."

"Hm?"

"Oh, um...it's nothing."

"Was the other Choi your tutor or something?"

"In a sense, yes. He's been my, quote-unquote 'tutor' since middle school."

Zelo pursed his lips, looking over his saddened hyung's face. Thinking about Youngjae took a lot out of Jinyoung’s appearance, like the rosy blush color off his face, along with what was left of his smile. Since they were gonna be cellmates soon, Junhong considered to know just how much the happy little Youngjae meant to the motherly male.

“What do you mean by that?"

"Well...it's kind of a personal thing I got going on."

"You can tell me anything though, hyung. I mean, if it's that serious than you don't have to, but-"

"It's fine!" Jinyoung blurted out, "I just feel kind of embarrassed whenever I talk about the thing. Hell, I'm still shocked I was able to tell Jaebongi about it."

Cue the raised eyebrow.

"You can tell me anything, Jin-hyung." Zelo repeated.

Jinyoung bit his lip flusteredly, looking as if it was a hard decision. The blond knew not to push him, and knew that what he would hear might make him feel guilty, but getting the older weak and distracted would give him the upper hand.

With a small sigh, Jinyoung uttered, "I suppose...as long as you don't laugh or anything!"

The taller of the two nodded.

"I...have dyscalculia."

Junhong looked at him strangely, more confused now.

"What?"

"Dyscalculia, it's kind of like dyslexia, but with numbers. It's the reason why I'm in two math classes, and had Youngjae as my tutor. When we first met, or had a class together, he looked at me funny when I was making faces as I looked at what the teacher was writing. During that time, I was also picked on by who I sadly called my friends because of my disability, like how I wasn't able to read the wall clocks. After, I think, three weeks, I was already starting to flunk the class, because I wouldn't want to do the work, so the teacher decided to get me a tutor. AKA, the first time I personally met Youngjae."

A humming response.

"I was really shy back then, but I couldn't help but get angry and defensive whenever he would ask me why I wouldn't work, so we didn't get along. It wasn't until he was walking by me and my father one day in the hall that he found out, accidentally of course. After that, he was researching nonstop on how to help teach me better, and for that, I was grateful. I still am."

He didn't notice the sudden change in his direction.

"It meant a lot to me that he was willing to put in the extra effort to help, even though I was a whiny back then. That's why I was so shocked when I saw the news...I failed to help him. Call me stupid, but I always looked for every opportunity to repay him, anything to show how thankful I was for that one deed. Now that he went missing...I just don't know. I've actually been looking around the bakery for any clues, but haven't found any just yet."

"I can help you there." Zelo said in an unusual monotone voice.

"You can?-"

Jinyoung looked over to find a wall, more specifically a brick wall; he was in an alleyway. He turned around, and saw the familiar tall figure of Junhong, but felt his heart stop as a bulky object caught his eye.

"Oh I can. Wanna know how?"

The giant's small steps echoed through the empty space between them, petrifying Jr. where he stood. The object was raised, and in the light, it took the official shape of a gun.

"I'll take you to him."

P-taff.

Thu-thump.

Zelo looked at the male desperately, hoping he would move, just a little bit. But, of course, he didn't; Zelo doesn't miss his target so easily. With a huff, he brought out his hidden pager and spoke with a cracking voice:

"The Mother Hen has been plucked."
