Parents... they want the best for us but they're clueless and controlling.

Narrator POV

“We decided to move the wedding to this Friday!” Kai’s father announced happily expecting a similar reaction from the kids but both Kai’s and Yvonne’s jaws dropped, behind them Myungsoo’s jaw was also ajar.

From across the table Jessica narrowed her eyes and even though Yvonne wasn’t looking at her sister she could feel her bone chilling glare. Beside Jess, Krystal was focused on her food and didn’t really pay that much attention to the announcement, she found it obvious, they were already engaged, so why so shocked that they were getting married? It didn’t interest her.

Yvonne took a peek at her Umma who sat on the other end of the table opposite to Kai’s father. Her Umma gave her an ‘I’m sorry honey but there’s nothing I can do’ look. From the vibe she was giving Yvonne could tell that her mother didn’t like this arrangement either but like everything else, there’s nothing they can do about it.

As soon as Kai had been released from jail, his father called and gathered everybody at the restaurant saying that he had important news. Turns out that because of the various rumours surrounding Kai’s imprisonment many shareholders had pulled out their stocks and if the company doesn’t do anything about it, they’ll go bankrupt.

Kai’s father was honest enough to admit that the reason for this marriage was to save his company and he being one of Yvonne’s father’s old friends Yvonne’s mother couldn’t do anything but help him.

“Can’t there be another way?” Kai was the first one to snap away from the shock and started thinking, “Its normal for stocks to drop, I’m out now and once the rumours die down the shareholders will come back.”

Kai father shook his head, “I’m afraid that we don’t have time to wait for it to die down, by then we will be bankrupt, we’ll lose everything I’ve built up till now.”

“I’ll make sure that that doesn’t happen, I was the one who caused this to happen I’ll take the consequences,” Kai argued, “But I refuse this marriage.” He sneaked a glance at Yvonne who just stayed quiet. Kai slightly tilted his head back and saw a soulless Myungsoo.  Kai couldn’t do this to them, it took him a while but he finally recognised that those two were like a match made by heaven, what Myungsoo and Yvonne have… it was something beautiful and Kai refused to be the person who destroys it.

“This isn’t about what you want Jongin,” Kai’s father was starting to lose his patience, “This is the only way to help us.”

“Can’t we call the press or something and just tell them that I’m alive and everything was an accident?” Jessica spoke up. She out of everybody at the table hated this arrangement the most.

Umma hushed Jess, “It’s not that easy sweetheart.”

Jessica pouted and slouched in her seat while her eyes met Yvonne’s, it was almost as if they were challenging Yvonne.

“But father I-…” Kai started but was cut off by a bang from his father’s fist and the table.

“Enough Jongin, Mrs. Jung and I had already came to an agreement there’s nothing you can do,” he calmed his voice, “The wedding will be scheduled on Friday and that is final
