“It’s Taehyung’s sixth birthday,” Sehun stated.

“Who’s Taehyung?” Soojung inquired as her fingers grazed upon the scarf that Sehun had brought for her from America.

The male stared at her and he could never be more than thankful that Soojung was sent to the psychiatric ward instead of the prison. Now, she was as beautiful as ever and he could infer that she was receiving proper medical attention. However, he hoped more that it would translate onto the progress of her condition because even after six years, Soojung’s eyes were still dull and her mind still had to cope from painful experiences by burying the memories of that incident and beyond

“Six years ago at exactly the same day, you gave birth to him. He’s your son, Soojung,” Sehun had to remind her. “He is yours and Myungsoo’s son.”

“Myungsoo,” a smile played on Soojung’s lips until her eyes flickered with sadness. “Do you know where Myungsoo is?”

“Soojung,” Sehun reached for her hand and gently squeezed it.

But Soojung’s voice still reflected hopefulness as she requested, “Could you please ask him to visit me here? Could you please tell him that I miss him?”

“I wish I could,” Sehun whispered in reply.

“But he knows right?” Soojung pushed further. “He knows that I love him, right?”

Painfully, Sehun could only nod in reply and this brought another smile to Soojung’s lips.

“I miss him,” Soojung repeated as she blankly stared at the table. “I miss my husband.”

Sehun clasped her hand with both of his as he sighed, silently praying for the pain in Soojung to subside and for her to regain back her sanity for her son. Suddenly, he was informed that his visiting time with Soojung had already ended.

He then asked her, “Do you want me to deliver a message for Taehyung?”

“The birthday celebrant?” Soojung asked and Sehun nodded. She rummaged through her pocket and brought out a simple bracelet made of beads. She handed it to Sehun and said, “I was waiting for Myungsoo so that I could personally give it to him but perhaps, I could make another one. Would it be alright for you to deliver this gift to Taehyung?”

That was the first time that Sehun heard her son’s name come out of Soojung’s lips and happiness swelled in his heart. Glad, he nodded with a smile.

“Thank you,” Soojung exclaimed but when Sehun admired her work, she frowned and questioned, “Isn’t it too simple? Maybe he wouldn’t like it.”

“No,” Sehun shook his head with a beam, “Taehyung would love to receive anything from you, Soojung and he would be happier if he could see you outside soon.”

There was another warning for Sehun so he stood up and excused himself, “I need to go, Soojung. Take care of yourself well, okay?”

Soojung nodded and watched him leave until she called him again, “Sehun.”

He looked back at her and she then said, “Thank you for everything.”

There was a sting in Sehun’s heart that brought a tear on his eye but then he replied with a genuine smile, “You are most welcome.”

Sehun tapped his fingers on the steering wheel as he waited for the traffic light to turn back to green. As he looked up, he saw that it was him on one of the largest billboards in Seoul and a smile spread across his face upon realizing so. He then the radio to let any song resonate in his car and after the first song, he heard a familiar name along with some good news.

“World-renowned photographer Bae Suzy has bagged another trophy for our country as her entry won the first place at this year’s World Press Photo Contest…”

Sehun was sent in a trance upon hearing another success of hers and he wondered how Suzy had been behind all the awards. If he only knew that the conversation he shared with Suzy at the cemetery was the last one that they would have, he would have said more.

A month after their conversation, he left for America to pursue his modelling career and now, he had become one of America’s top and most in demand models. It was from Jessica that he heard that after the 49th day of Myungsoo’s death, Suzy left for England to formally study photography at the Royal College of Art in London. Apparently, she qualified for a scholarship after sending her portfolio – the compilation that Myungsoo made for her.

Since then, Sehun had been watching her from afar.

He was there during her graduation. He was there when he received her first major award of Best Wildlife Photography from the National Geographic. He was there when a museum in Seoul opened a section that included her most distinguished works. As much as he could, he was there for every milestone of hers. He chose to silently admire the biggest smiles that adorned her lips. He chose to just clap along with the crowd with pride bursting in him. He chose to let her stay in his life and let him be invisible to hers.

His daze was disrupted upon the beeping of cars behind him. Shaking his head, Sehun continued on driving but he also continued on thinking on how cowardly he was. He never had the courage to talk to her at any of the occasions that he had the opportunity to do so. He never had the courage to show himself because he was afraid that Suzy was still not ready to accept him again.

His phone then started ringing and Jessica’s name popped on the screen. Immediately answering it, Sehun exclaimed, “Hello?”

“Hey. Don’t forget to buy the cake,” Jessica stated, “Taehyung’s already waiting.”

Upon Taehyung’s birth and Soojung’s admission to the mental hospital, it was Jessica who took the responsibility of caring of the boy. Her parents and Myungsoo’s parents volunteered to do so too but Jessica didn’t want to trust them with an innocent kid after the catastrophe they brought to their own children. Thus, Jessica raised Taehyung like her own child and made sure that he would always feel loved.

“Yes, I understand,” Sehun beamed.

“You’re late,” Howon spat as he helped Sehun place the large cake at the centre table.

“But party hasn’t started,” Sehun argued.

“Party’s starting late because of you,” Key retorted.

“Well, I’m sorry. I had to pass by the hospital,” Sehun genuinely apologized and the two need not to ask further to understand. Redirecting the conversation, Sehun asked, “Where are Jia and Bora?”

“D

Chapter 35: Okay first I'm not really into angst and I loved the fact that you aren't ending this in the most tragic way.
Confession, I am more rooting for Sehun and Suzy than Myungsoo and Suzy. Okay, I probably the minority here but I have my own reason for rooting on Hunzy.
Yes, sehun and suzy started the wrong way. Sehun started it wrong. He court her not because he loved her, it's started with a kind of dumb revenge which shouldn't be existed. So why do I still am rooting for them even between all of the lies? Because Sehun is courageous enough to choose Suzy over anyone else. Call it selfish, but I think it was form of courage. The only coward thing he did after fully realising his feeling towards her was that he didn't let Suzy know the true story before Soojung did. If only he is brave enough to spill the bean, perhaps Suzy will be a bit less hurted. After all, knowing the truth from the one you love will be a lot better than to have another tell you how you actually had been toyed all this while added with nothing but confirmation from those who held your heart that what other told you was somehow true.
Then why am I not rooting for Myungsoo? Simple because he wasted his chance. He could've runaway from his family even before the engagement yet he don't. He could've reject the option to marry Soojung (even runaway from the wedding is always an option) yet he didn't. He always had the chance to choose Suzy over everything else yet he hadn't. Even if he had been written as someone who loves her unconditionally; someone who is willing to sacrifice himself for her, it still didn't hide the fact that he is not courageous enough to pursue their forever.
If they said that Soojung and Sehun's love were selfish, then what were theirs? Myungsoo and Suzy also practiced that selfish love; a kind of selfish love which actually way worst than the one Soojung and Sehun had.
However, this is good for my not so "angsty lover" taste. I am thankful that you write this. Sorry for the long comments!
