Only the tapping of the pen on the table would replace the silence that echoed in the whole office. A few screeches from the tables and the chairs, and clanking of some objects would resonate every now and then, but words remained muffled in each of their mouths. Giving up, it was Bora who spoke first.

“It’s been two days since she took a break,” she sighed.

“Let her be. She needs a good rest,” Howon mumbled as he distracted himself with the pictures he was lay-outing.

The pen-tapping then subsided and was replaced by Jia’s voice, “But leaving her on her own might be a bad idea. Somehow… this is making me nervous.”

“Why don’t we check her in her apartment?” Bora asked with a worried voice.

“Apparently, someone has already beaten you up in that idea,” Key interrupted. All eyes were then on him as he said, “Sehun informed me a while ago that he’d pass by her apartment first before going here.”

Even before anyone could retort to Key’s words, Bora’s phone started ringing aloud, garnering everyone’s attention. Bora immediately reached for it, seeing from afar that Sehun’s name flashed on the screen. However, even before her officemates could hear her greet the person on the other line, they already saw confusion being written on her face.

“Sehun, calm down,” Bora said. “I can’t understand anything that you’re saying. What happened to Suzy?”

“Put him on loudspeaker,” Howon suggested and the female quickly complied.

Just then, Sehun’s voice from the other line said, “I-I don’t know what happened b-but she wouldn’t wake up so I called for an emergency.”

Horror was quickly painted onto the four’s faces hearing that Suzy might be in a possible danger. Their hearts raced and Bora could only cover in shock while Key vented out his frustration and worry on Jia.

“Jia, tell us now,” he said sternly, dropping all the formalities for the elder and furthermore, asking in a yell, “What happened five days ago?! Why is Suzy acting like this?!”

The tone and the loudness of his voice made Jia flinch in panic that she ended up blabbering, “Soojung’s pregnant. M-Myungsoo’s wife is pregnant.”

“I am going to beat that guy up,” Key uttered with teeth clenched in anger.

Bora bit her fingernails, not knowing how to deal with two revelations at the same time while Howon seemed the most calm, asking Sehun who was still on the line,

“Where are you?”

“In an ambulance on its way to the city hospital,” he answered.

“She overdosed on sleeping pills. She’d be a little groggy once she wakes up, but she’s stable now- at least physically.”

The doctor’s words echoed in their ears, but Key’s heart still couldn’t calm down. His fingers were clenching each other and his eyes were shut tight as he stiffly sat down on the bench outside Suzy’s hospital room. Jia and Bora were inside but all of them were equally hoping that Suzy would already wake up. Key then glanced at the other male on the other bench, Howon, who just had his eyes staring on the ceiling.

This could already be counted as attempted suicide. I didn’t know that Suzy could go up to this point. She used to be so strong, Key thought as his gaze was brought back to the floor.

He closed his eyes once more as he massaged his temples but then the running footsteps made him turn towards the end of the hallway and his eyes clouded with anger as he saw the figure.

Kim Myungsoo. You’re the reason for all of this. You broke not just her heart but every piece of her. You, bastard--- thousands of curses, along with thoughts of how to strangle the guy run down Key’s head as Myungsoo approached them.

“What happened?” Myungsoo asked, out of breath from sprinting.

But instead of bothering to answer, Key stood up and he was ready to throw punches to the guy who he believes has caused the pain of his beloved friend but even before he could take another step towards Myungsoo, Howon has grabbed Myungsoo by the collar, harshly shoving him to the wall.

“You happened,” Howon spat out in front of Myungsoo. “I knew it all along that this was all wrong but you promised, Myung. You promised you’d take care of her. You promised you’d bring her happiness. I thought I could trust you!”

Myungsoo bravely met every glare that Howon gave but his reply was that of soft gazes of apology and he whispered, “I’m sorry, hyung.”

The next thing Key knew, Myungsoo was already on the floor, wiping the blood that oozed from his lips and Howon on the other hand, was still clenching the fist that he had used to punch the former.

“Sorry?!” Howon yelled. “Suzy attempted suicide because of you! Do you think your sorry would suffice if those pills have killed her?! If ever that happened…. your sorry wouldn’t be able to bring back her life! It wouldn’t fix her now, at the very least!”

Howon was expecting Myungsoo to reason out, to argue in his defense. However, both he and Key were caught off guard when Myungsoo kneeled in front of them, with his head hung low.

“Punch me again,” Myungsoo pleaded. “Go on, punch me again. Punch me all you want. You could even beat me up into a pulp. I could say sorry a thousand times more until you get tired of hearing it. But please… I’m begging you… Let me see Suzy first.”

“I don’t think she would want to see you,” Key finally found his voice.

“She doesn’t need to see me. I could even promise that she wouldn’t find out that I came for her. Just. I just want to see her,” Myungsoo begged once more.  “Once I see her, I could explain everything to you, and you could get mad at me all you want. But please, let me see her first.”

Seeing a chaebol dressed in one of the best clothes kneel in a public hospital’s hallway signalled Myungsoo’s desperation. Howon and Key didn’t want to trust him anymore after all that Suzy has went through but even the breaks in his voice and the sadness in his face showed sincerity. Myungsoo then felt another punch land on his jaw but now, it was from Key.

“I’m letting you go this time,” Key’s voice followed. “But she should not see you. You can’t reignite the emotions she already had been battling with. Your mere presence could make her lose the fight.”

“What are you doing here?” Bora muttered in between gritted teeth. She was about to launch at Myungsoo but then Jia had held her wrist and shook her head.

“Let’s leave them alone,” Jia whispered.

“You’re allowing him to be with her, just like that?!” Bora said in exasperation.

“It wasn’t ‘just like that’,” Jia informed her, and understanding between her lines, Bora then started noticing the cut and bruise that Myungsoo had already acquired. Her eyes then travelled towards the door, and the two males, Key and Howon, also signalled her to let the male be. Bora rolled her eyes and let out a scoff be

Chapter 35: Okay first I'm not really into angst and I loved the fact that you aren't ending this in the most tragic way.
Confession, I am more rooting for Sehun and Suzy than Myungsoo and Suzy. Okay, I probably the minority here but I have my own reason for rooting on Hunzy.
Yes, sehun and suzy started the wrong way. Sehun started it wrong. He court her not because he loved her, it's started with a kind of dumb revenge which shouldn't be existed. So why do I still am rooting for them even between all of the lies? Because Sehun is courageous enough to choose Suzy over anyone else. Call it selfish, but I think it was form of courage. The only coward thing he did after fully realising his feeling towards her was that he didn't let Suzy know the true story before Soojung did. If only he is brave enough to spill the bean, perhaps Suzy will be a bit less hurted. After all, knowing the truth from the one you love will be a lot better than to have another tell you how you actually had been toyed all this while added with nothing but confirmation from those who held your heart that what other told you was somehow true.
Then why am I not rooting for Myungsoo? Simple because he wasted his chance. He could've runaway from his family even before the engagement yet he don't. He could've reject the option to marry Soojung (even runaway from the wedding is always an option) yet he didn't. He always had the chance to choose Suzy over everything else yet he hadn't. Even if he had been written as someone who loves her unconditionally; someone who is willing to sacrifice himself for her, it still didn't hide the fact that he is not courageous enough to pursue their forever.
If they said that Soojung and Sehun's love were selfish, then what were theirs? Myungsoo and Suzy also practiced that selfish love; a kind of selfish love which actually way worst than the one Soojung and Sehun had.
However, this is good for my not so "angsty lover" taste. I am thankful that you write this. Sorry for the long comments!
