The Search for Love
Seeking for CertaintyInstead of Myungsoo flying away from all the sorrow and bitterness, it was all the thoughts of going to England and creating a new beginning that flew away at the mention of the danger that might be waiting Suzy. His heart was raging in his chest as numerous thoughts haunted him. On his way to the police station, he tried calling her number but to no avail. Horror was slowly engulfing Myungsoo as he repeatedly whispered, “Where are you?”
When he arrived at the police station, he quickly looked for Sehun and he saw him uneasily pacing back and forth. The police were busy calling some numbers and Jia was there as well, sitting at the bench beside the wall, staring at nothingness, or perhaps, praying.
“What happened?” Myungsoo announced his presence.
Sehun halted his steps and met his gaze before answering, “Suzy has been missing for more that forty-eight hours.”
“I was able to see her in Seoul,” Jia stated, “She said that she was in her way to Hoya’s apartment and perhaps it was to see you, Myungsoo.”
“B-But I never saw her,” Myungsoo replied. “Howon never told me anything too.”
Jia bit her lip, “It seems like she was never able to arrive at her destination in the first place. Now, we have no clue where she is.”
Sehun’s phone rang and interrupted the three’s conversation. The male quickly answered the call and the other two as well as the policemen anticipated his reaction. However, from his devastated countenance, they knew that it brought no good news. There was another call that filled their hopes but it did nothing to appease Sehun for he almost threw his phone in frustration.
“Bora said that Suzy is not in her apartment and Howon also called to tell that she is not in her hometown either,” Sehun told the two, “Moreover, even her own family can’t contact her.”
“That can’t be,” Myungsoo shook his head, “Suzy could shut all of us out of her world but she would always make sure that her line is available for her family.”
“I know. I know,” Sehun repeated and ran down his hand through his hair only to clutch his locks in the end as hopelessness was starting to register into his system.
“The police is already asking help from other stations to locate her and Key is using the social networking sites to ask numerous people of her whereabouts,” Jia’s voice was shaking. She was trying her best to be optimistic as she added, “M-Maybe we would be able to reach Suzy sooner or later.”
“We… we can’t stay here,” Myungsoo whispered, panicking. Then his voice boomed as he yelled, “We can’t stay here! Suzy could be in danger right now!”
“And who the hell’s your suspect?!” Sehun shouted back.
Myungsoo swallowed before admitting, “My parents are capable and culpable, Sehun. They can do anything that they want and they wouldn’t care if those acts are despicable, as long as they wouldn’t be found out.”
“Are you sure?” Sehun questioned.
The two male stared at each other before Myungsoo answered, “I… I have to go talk to them if they’re involved in this.”
But before Myungsoo could leave, Sehun’s phone rang again.
“Noona?”
Suzy fluttered her eyes open and her eyes adjusted to accommodate the scarce amount of light that illuminated the room she was in. It was empty but there were windows to allow some light to enter. She tried to move only to find out that her feet were tied below and her hands were tied behind the chair she was sitting on. She tried to break free but she was only creating friction between her skin and her ropes, stinging her with pain in the process.
She her lips for felt dry and she tried to recall what happened before everything. She remembered talking to Jia, saying that she was okay and that she needed to see Myungsoo. She remembered that she was on her way to Howon’s apartment when a van suddenly stopped beside her and abducted her. She remembered seeing men with their faces covered and she remembered struggling only to be knocked out onto unconsciousness.
She didn’t exactly know how many hours she had been inside these premises but there were two times that she saw night from the windows, so it must have been two days. Food would be brought to her from time to time by the same men but she refused to eat. Nonetheless, she would drink water until she realized that the water they were giving her only made her sleepy. felt desiccated now as she no longer trusted the liquids they would give her.
It had been two days but still, nobody told her why she was suffering like this.
“Thirsty?” a voice suddenly halted Suzy’s daze.
A figure stepped into the room and Suzy had to squint as she tried to decipher who it was. The voice was familiar to her ears and she was certain that she had already met this person. The heels clacked as the person approached her and Suzy’s breath hitched as she found out who it was.
“I’ve brought you water,” the person smiled as she held a glass of water in front of her but Suzy turned her face to another direction. The person chuckled with an uneasy smile, “Don’t worry. There are no drugs in it now. They just kept you sleepy because they needed to wait for me. I’m sorry for being late.”
“What do you want from me?” Suzy’s voice was hoarse.
“Everything that I couldn’t have.”
Suzy gritted her teeth as she replied, “You’re insane, Soojung.”
“Sehun, you have to hurry,” Jessica’s voice on the other line was full of worry. She had already told the male her sister’s whereabouts and her sister’s plan against Suzy. But she needed to remind him, “Soojung is self-destructing and she’s planning to drag Suzy into it.”
“I understand, noona. We have to go now,” Sehun was about to end the call.
“Wait, Sehun,” Jessica hated him. She breathed deeply before continuing, “I know that my sister had been a burden lately.”
“Noona, she’s still my friend – “ Sehun tried to argue.
“She had been a little too difficult to handle lately and I have been asking too many requests from you but please,” Jessica pleaded over the phone and from the sound of her voice, Sehun could imagine that if they were together, Jessica would be begging to the point kneeling. She continued, “Please keep her safe. I’m about to take a flight back to Korea and when I return, I promise that I would be the one to take care of my sister so until I come back, please keep her safe.”
“You don’t need to worry, noona,” Sehun tried to calm the girl.
“No, Sehun. You don’t understand,” Jessica exclaimed. “Soojung’s the criminal right now and the police could kill her. So please. Please promise that you would keep her alive. Please, Sehun.”
Sehun sighed before nodding. He looked at the policemen surrounding him before he genuinely promised Jessica, “Yes, I will.”
As he ended the call, he looked at Myungsoo who understood that they already have a lead as to where Suzy was. Wasting no time, they quickly formulated a plan with the police to save the girl.
“That’s right, Suzy. I am not sane,” Soojung smiled sadly before sitting down on the floor. She met Suzy’s eyes before starting, “Since it’s either my or your last day here on Earth, you might as well hear my story. You might as well know that there’s more to ‘Myungsoo’s wife’ and ‘Sehun’s bestfriend’ that you always hated.”
Suzy did not respond.
“I was clinically diagnosed as psychologically ill when I was twelve but my parents dismissed it as something trivial – something that I must overcome alone because I was a Jung,” Soojung explained. “I guess my sickness had become worse because we’re now in this situation, right?”
Suzy begun listening intently for it was the first time that she was seeing the new side of the girl she only knew by her name and her face. Suzy couldn’t fully understand why but Soojung was unravelling herself in front of her.
“You don’t know how it felt like, Suzy. From the moment I was born, my parents were already dissatisfied because I was not a boy. Every day of my life, I would be compared to my sister and how I could not become like her. Every day, someone would tell me that I am a failure – that I am nothing but a mere disappointment.”
Suzy could swear that Soojung’s voice broke at her last statement but Soojung continued nonetheless, “The only time that I was able to become useful to my parents was the time that I had become the Kim’s daughter-in-law. They needed Myungsoo to help their business grow. They needed the Kim’s prestige to add to their own, and that was the first, the last and the only time that my parents were thankful to have me – a daughter to marry off to the son of the Kims.”
“But your marriage was to your advanta
