Your Dance is Addictive
Minzy had been standing in front of Kai’s hotel room for at least 3 minutes, staring at the door like as If it was going to open by itself. She felt excited that he invited her to his room, but she wasn’t sure why she felt more excited than she thought she should be. The text she received from him 10 minutes ago might have also been sent to a few others. For all she knew, Kai had several people in his room hanging out and he just wanted to her to hang out with all of them as well. So why was she still standing in front of his door doing nothing but staring at the knob?
‘This is stupid.’ She muttered to herself. Finally mustering up enough courage to wrap her hand around the door handle, twisting it slowly but it wouldn’t move much. Minzy lightly laughed at herself for being an idiot, since the door to a hotel room obviously wouldn’t be unlocked. Instead of knocking on the door, she resorted to sending Kai a message to say she was outside waiting. Perhaps it made her seem more casual about coming to his room. Once sent, Minzy continued waiting and a few thoughts ran through her head. It didn’t seem like a lot of noise was coming from Kai’s room; in fact, it sounded pretty silent to her. Maybe he really was alone and he wanted to spend some time with just the two of them. But was she ready for this kind of thing? The idea of spending time alone when she knew well that they had both drunk a significant amount of alcohol that night…would she do something she would regret?
Minzy’s thoughts were interrupted as she noticed the door opening in front of her. There stood Kai, still in his attire from the performance. Minzy was glad and anxious at the same time, for Kai’s outfit, hair and makeup made him look even better than he usually does, but it was a little over the top for her to look him in the eyes for a long time. He was smiling at her, while holding the door open for her to enter.
‘Are you coming in or what?’ He laughed at the dazed girl standing in front of him. Minzy quickly gained back her senses and nodded lightly, entering her way inside far enough for Kai to close the door. Seeing there was no one else in the room, she discreetly smiled to herself before asking him a rather obvious question.
‘Do you need something from me?’ She smiled, still standing with him behind the door.
‘Hey..your face is a little red…did you drink too much Minzy?’ He reached his hand to caress her cheek. His voice showed concern mixed with a pan of playfulness. Maybe it was the makeup, but Minzy found his stare incredibly y. She couldn’t help but smile back like an idiot as she felt him touch her face with his soft, slender fingers. ‘Nope, I’m just fine.’ She replied. ‘So like I said, do you need something, Oppa?’
‘I really like it when you call me Oppa…it sounds so endearing to me.’ Kai grinned back, not afraid to show it. ‘I need your help with something though.’
Minzy raised her eyebrow at this. ‘My…help?’ She smiled in amusement. Kai nodded quickly, before leading her to walk further into his room. He had his hand resting on her waist and Minzy smiled at the somewhat firm grip he kept on her. ‘What do you need?’ She asked, curious to what ‘help’ Kai was referring to. Kai’s smile suddenly disappeared and he carried a weary expression on his face.
‘Kai?’ Minzy called.
‘Well…I need you to help me get her back to her senses…’ He pointed to the bathroom door. Minzy followed her gaze to where his finger was pointing before she turned back to face Kai.
‘What? Is someone else in here?’ Minzy frowned, slightly feeling confused. The room was so quiet after all, you’d think it was just the two of them anyway. Kai took Minzy’s hand in his, and slowly brought her to the bathroom door. Minzy started to hear faint sobs coming from inside, and there were honestly a lot of possibilities going through her head. She didn’t get to think about it much longer as Kai swiftly pushed the door open, revealing a very familiar girl Minzy knew, however her appearance was somewhat pitiful. Back leaning on the clean walls for support, legs sprawled across the bathroom floor, scruffy and tangled hair running all over her face, and to top it off, 2 empty soju bottles that seemed to have been finished quite some time ago.
‘Krystal…..?’ Minzy’s quiet voice echoed as she cautiously walked closer to the currently fragile girl. ‘What happened..?’
The girl, who Minzy had had nothing but bad encounters with, slowly turned her head to look at her. Her eyes displayed some redness, and her makeup was smudged, making Minzy know the girl had been crying as well. But she wasn’t sure what to make of this, because why would Kai have a crying Krystal in his room anyway? Minzy looked at Kai’s direction for some answers, who sighed and walked over to Krystal, bending down and squatting to talk to her.
‘Are you done crying yet? I told you it’s not something worth crying about…’ He started, but Krystal quickly began sobbing once more, taking the boy into a hug, like as If he was her mother. ‘I can’t help it!’ She cried. ‘I…I don’t know what else to do…’ She hiccupped. Kai released himself from her hug and forced Krystal to stand up, she stumbled to keep her balance so Minzy walked over and supported her other side. The two dancers led her outside of the bathroom, and back into the bedroom where they gently layed her onto the bed. Minzy, who hadn’t gotten any answers from before, decided to ask her question again.
‘Kai…what’s wrong with her?’
‘She’s…heartbroken.’
‘Heartbroken…?’ Minzy repeated. She tapped Krystal to sit up, and the girl obliqued before reaching over the bedside table to grab more tissues to wipe the tears that were still running down her face.
‘Kai…why did you bring her here? She’ll just make my problems worse.’ Krystal mumbled into her tissues, but of course Minzy heard it as well. Ignoring Krystal’s whining, Kai went on to explain the situation to Minzy.
‘She came over here about half an hour ago, saying she wanted to drink because she was having a bad night. Immediately I knew it was about Taemin hyung.’ Kai started. Minzy nodded understandingly, and waited for him to continue.
‘I think she was with hyung before she came to my room and he said something to upset her, because she came in here on the verge of tears, asking me to do something about her love problems. Instead, she started drinking uncontrollably, and I couldn’t stop her crying so I had to ask you to come over to help me calm her down.’ Kai sighed. Minzy continued nodding, as she took in the story. It’s not like she was expecting anything, but she couldn’t help but feel disappointed that this was the reason she was called over; to help someone that didn’t even respect her.
‘So..If this is about Taemin then.’ Minzy spoke quietly. ‘What did he say Krystal?’
‘Don’t you already know?’ Krystal kept sniffing into her tissues. ‘He likes you.’
‘..What am I supposed to say to that?’ Minzy shrugged.
‘You don’t get it.’ Krystal raised her voice. ‘I went out of my way to hang out with him shortly after the celebration party started..I was so happy to have some time alone with him. We were together talking for at least half an hour…when I decided it would be an appropriate time to…to ask him out.
You know what he said? Do you know what he said?!’ She started yelling. Kai rolled his eyes at the over dramatic voice Krystal put on. ‘Just hurry up and say it.’ He groaned.
‘Kai, let her take her time. She’s in distress.’ Minzy frowned at the boy. Although it must have been annoying to deal with her, she believed that Krystal deserved to have to her time to talk. Afterall, Minzy had never seen someone in quite a state like this before.
‘So…what did he say?’ Minzy asked quietly, attempting to not sound as impatient. She immediately regretted it as Krystal turned to give her one of the sharpest, nastiest glares she had ever seen. Krystal reached over to the bedside table once again, yanking the tissue box in her hand and violently throwing it across the room.
‘He said right now the ONLY WOMAN he can see in his eyes is YOU, GONG FREAKING MINJI.’
The room filled with silence as different thoughts ran through each person’s head. What was anyone supposed to say to a declaration like that anyway? Minzy looked away and stared at the ground, while Kai did the same to the wall. Both of their moods had turned probably just as sour as Krystal’s. The girl wasn’t crying anymore, but she was waiting for any kind of response from either person on her side. Feeling it was her responsibility to be the first to say anything, Minzy slightly bit her lip before opening .
‘What….what does this all have to do with Kai?’ Her voice was weak. She didn’t know what else to say to such an outburst. Krystal sighed lightly before replying. ‘It was stupid of me…I know….but I came up here because I wanted Kai’s help. I wanted him to claim you so you would get out of the picture….because I want Taemin Oppa to myself.’
For the first time, Minzy started to see just a tiny bit of sincereness in Krystal and it honestly made her feel guilty. Guilty for falling in love with Taemin. Guilty for kissing Taemin. Guilty for getting close to Taemin. It wasn’t her idea but it just happened on its own. She had no idea that people would get hurt by it all. Not just Krystal, but probably Kai as well. Minzy opened to say something, but Krystal beat her to it.
‘I’m sorry….I’m so in love with Taemin Oppa that I’m like this. I’ve liked Oppa for so long you have no idea….I really hate to admit that I’m jealous of anyone that could come my way. But Minzy….I just…I just want to ask you one thing.’
‘Yeah?’ Minzy nodded.
‘You…you’re in love with Kai right? You want to be with Kai don’t you?’ She asked, her voice sounding hopeful. What she hadn’t realised was how much of an uncomfortable question it was for Minzy to answer. Kai was also in the room and he hadn’t been saying anything for a while, but was still just staring away. Krystal’s question made him widen his eyes and he immediately looked at Minzy, secretly wanting to know her answer as well.
‘Wha…Krystal that’s….I can’t…’ Minzy stuttered, shaking her head in frustration. ‘You don’t really expect me to answer that do you?’
‘I’m dead serious, sunbae.’ Krystal said for the first time. She then looked at Kai, whose face was in shock and it told her that maybe she crossed the line. ‘Fine…you don’t have to tell me right now…but I’ll be waiting for an answer.’ She got off the bed and stood up. ‘Do you mind If I ask one more question?’
Oh no, what now? Minzy thought to herself.
Not waiting for a response, Krystal started talking again. ‘If you knew how serious I loved Oppa…you would stay away from him…right?’
Minzy closed her eyes briefly and sighed to herself. It was a serious question, and she knew that whatever she said, Krystal would take it to heart and never forget it. She clenched her fist tightly, letting it go after a few seconds. She looked at Krystal and even managed to slightly smile at her.
‘Yeah…yeah I would.’ She bit her teeth straight after saying it. She stopped as soon as Krystal shuffled in front of her and reached her arms out to give her a small hug. Minzy’s eyes widened in shock but returned the hug when Krystal began mumbling thanks. It was an amazing thing to have received a hug from the girl who hated her, and she wondered how she’d even managed to make such a thing happen.
‘Thankyou…to the both of you…’ Krystal looked down to the ground. ‘Sorry for…trashing your bathroom Kai.’ She made her way over to the door. ‘I’ll see you guys…at training next time.’ The door opened and shut, leaving just Minzy and Kai in the room, sitting on the bed, far enough distance from each other, but they just felt awkward.
Forget about wanting to be alone with Kai; All Minzy wanted was to have never noticed the text she got and she could’ve still been celebrating back at 2NE1’s room with Luhan and everyone else. She was thankful Krystal and she had somehow managed to actually talk without death staring each other for once. But she was put on the spot. She didn’t even want to think about how Kai must’ve been feeling when she couldn’t answer the question about being in love with him. How could she? Especially when everyone had confirmed Taemin was in love with her. Kai probably didn’t want to know it was true, yet he still listened to Krystal’s problem and let her cry on his shoulder.
‘Uh….I guess I’m not needed anymore right? Haha…’ Minzy laughed awkwardly, her failed attempt in lightening the mood. Trying to find an escape, she abruptly stood up and started making her way to the door. As soon as Kai realised she was planning to leave, he immediately stood up and followed her, grabbing her wrist and pulling her into a tight hug. Minzy only gasped in response as her arms remained rested on her sides.
‘Pretend.’ Kai muttered against her ear.
‘Bwo?’ She whispered back.
‘Pretend I’m him.’ Kai buried his face closer to her neck. He tightened the hold his hands had on her petite figure, successfully bringing her closer towards his body. She could feel his breath breathing down her neck, his strong arms holding onto her, slightly tickling her waist but she didn’t mind. What was he trying to say though?
‘Kai…I don’t know what you mean.’
‘I know I’m not him…..but just for a while…please pretend I’m Taemin hyung.’ He bit his lip.
‘No.’ Minzy suddenly pushed his body away. Kai scrunched his face up at the sudden rejection.
‘Mianhae…I just thought you’d need it right now..but I guess It’s not good enough because I’m not Taemin hyung, but I-‘
‘No Kai…I’m not going to do this If you’re telling me to imagine that you’re Taemin. I’ll only do it If it’s you.’ Minzy finally looked him in the eye. A tiny spark ran through Kai’s body as his eyes widened slightly to hear such a thing come out of . He opened his arms once more and hugged her tightly like he did before, only this time, she hugged him back. She wrapped her arms around his slim body, her head resting at his chest where she was able to hear the rapidly increasing heartbeat of his for the first time, and she lost herself in his arms, just taking in the scent of his cologne once more. Kai knew that she was being true to her words, and he knew that she enjoyed his touch just as much as he enjoyed hers. He slid his hand down her back, wanting to show her through his skin ship what she meant to him. He took in the faint smell of her sweet perfume, as he closed his eyes, letting his feelings take over himself, letting the words that had been locked inside, slip out of his mouth.
'Baby.....I’m in love with you.’
