Chapter 1

She felt something warm wrapped around her and for once in many years, she felt cosy. Mumbling some incoherent words her eyes shot open her eyes, remembering the current situation she was in. Her eyes wandered around, curiously observing the neatly decorated room.

Where was she?

The door slowly opened which made her sprang up in alert, she grabbed the nearest item she could see and held it in front of her. The man in front of her was also shocked but he wasn’t so surprised, she did jump through his window after all, not to mention his window was at least twice the height of her. He could have called the police. He could have dumped her outside. But instead, he decided to take care of her. Crazy he thought to himself.

‘Hey easy now, that’s not how you should be acting towards your saviour now, is it?’ He calmly started.

On the other hand, she however wasn’t so convinced; she tightened the grip on the glass lamp, with no intentions of letting it go anytime soon.

‘Um… Are you ok? You jumped through my window abruptly.. I didn’t know what to do’ He took a step, still keeping a distance. He looked at the girl, and he would be lying if he said she wasn’t pretty. She had straight black her, nice round eyes and fair white skin. She was wearing an oversize white gown, similar to the ones they were in hospitals. Her body slim and her figure nice however her wounds weren’t invisible. Clearly, he knew something was wrong.

It was clear that she didn’t want to answer. ‘Can you talk? Are you mute?’ He let out a slight sigh before he was about to turn and leave.

The girl hesitated for the moment. Everything happened so fast, from the unplanned escape to ending up in a stranger’s house. She didn’t know who to trust.

‘I’m not mute… ’ the words trailed off her lips as she lowered the lamp.

He turned around at her sudden decision to reply but nonetheless smiled.

‘Hi, I’m D O’. He approached her, carefully extending a hand. She looked at it for the moment, deciding whether she should take it or not, but the male decided to take matters into his own hands, interlocking hers in a firm grip before moving it up and down.

‘I’m Sooyeon… Jeong Sooyeon’ she introduced before her stomach rumbled.

The male chuckled before pulling her out of bed. ‘Let’s get you something to eat; you have a lot of explaining to do.’

‘Ok, so let me get this straight…. You’re a runaway? Not just any runaway, but a runaway experiment?’ He repeated. All this information was crazy. He felt like it was something that came straight from a sci-fiction book. With crazy scientists using humans for lab research, he didn’t know those types of activities were real. He was sure no one did.

‘That’s crazy’ He muttered for the nth time as he watched her hungrily eat the instant noodles he gave her. His eyes travelled to her forearms that had little ant size marks. Those were probably injections mark. It was unbelievable, but the truth was starring right back at him.

‘Actually this whole situation was completely bull’ He thought to himself, but he knew it was true. He sat opposite her watching her happily eat like it was her first proper food in years. He thought about it for a bit more.

It probably was.

He couldn’t help but pity the young girl, she was no more than 2 years younger than him, and he couldn’t imagine what it would be like if he was in that situations. He however was also surprised at how quickly she trusted him. He could be working for one of those men yet her instincts let her do so.

‘Silly girl’ thought before a humble smile found its way on his face.

‘And you’ve been in there since 5?’ She just bluntly nodded while slurping some more.

‘This stuff is really nice! Can I have some more later?’ She beamed, while he looked at her puzzled.

Right. She wouldn’t have been able to eat these types of things. She’s been imprisoned for 14 years after all. He looked at her before smiling meekly.

‘There’s better things to eat, but sure’ His reply made her face lit up with joy.

‘So where do you plan on staying?........’ He asked suspiciously.

That hadn’t come to mind when she escaped. Where was she going to stay? How will she survive out there alone? A thousand questions filled her mind until she was interrupted by D.O’s cough.

‘Well… about that…’ She sheepishly grinned.

He raised an eyebrow at her before sighing.

He knew he was in big now.

‘Please! It’ll only be for a while; I just need to lay low for a bit. Please! I can’t go back there’ she pleaded with slight terror with the thought of getting caught and having to go back.

His eyes met with the desperate girl as he let out an exaggerated huff.

‘Alright, but at least help out with some chores or something so I don’t feel like you’re a free loader’ He knew he was just getting himself into more trouble but he couldn’t just kick her out.

‘Really? REALLY?! Thank you! Seriously thank you!’ She jumped around.

He watched her in amusement and a small smile couldn’t help but form.

This is going to be interesting.

She was interesting.
