Distracted

You were staring into space.
You were well aware of this, but you couldn’t help it.
You were distracted.
As your math teacher droned on about derivatives, a hand in front of you brought you back to the planet, and you blink rapidly as you follow the arm to see who it is attached to.
Kris, one of your best friends, is grinning stupidly back at you with a raised eyebrow, “the point of being in class is to pay attention”
You scowl at him and roll your eyes, “I could say the same to you.” Your eyes flicker to his blank notebook that sits on his desk and he laughs as he notices it.
“Touché.”
You slouch lower in your seat and try to focus on your teacher, but Kris’ rumbly voice bounces around in your head like a ping pong ball.
You were distracted.
