I didn’t ever think things would turn out this way.

It was a day when we were answering a test in class. I noticed my seatmate seemed to be frantically looking for something. Then I saw a pencil near my foot. I picked it up and gave it to him with a smile.

“This must be yours, uh… (looks at ID)…. Chan Yeol-sshi ^_^”

“Ah, ne (yes)… go ma weo (thanks)”

After taking the pencil from me, I could feel that he was still looking at me. But I didn’t make such a big deal out of it. Before I knew it, he was talking to me every day; I couldn’t get a moment of peace. When I was a kid, I loved to quietly admire the blue skies and fluffy clouds while thinking of what meal mother would have waiting for me at home. All that was impossible when Chan Yeol started to make conversations with me. Honestly, I found it annoying and told him straight up “Dude, you’re annoying me. Can’t I silently stare into the sky without you talking about everything and anything under the sun? ”

After hearing that statement, he burst out laughing “Ahahaha ^_^ So that’s it? I was always wondering why you liked looking out the window. But now that you mentioned it, the sky really is beautiful. God’s quite the painter, isn’t he?”

“Yeah… I think so too.”

I guess he wasn’t all bad. But I still missed my peaceful days. He was always laughing and smiling, at times it felt a bit creepy. I, on the other hand, did not really have the habit of smiling, although I loved to laugh. I only show my fun-loving side to people I’m really close to.

Oh yeah, did I mention that his presence doesn’t end at school? One day, as I was eating warm bread on the streets thinking of what pretty pen to buy on the weekend when father and I go shopping, I saw Chan Yeol riding a bike. He noticed me as well and immediately came to me. My goodness, even though we’re outside school we still met. That’s when I found out that he actually lived in the same neighborhood as I did.

“This is great! We can go to school together!”

“No! You already talk to me at school, why do you have to take my quiet morning walks as well?”

“Ahaha! ^_^ But it’s fun talking to you Ji yeon!”

“You’re having too much fun (-_-)…”

In the end, it was inevitable after all. He followed me home and came to pick me up the next morning. It became like this from then on. Soon he became a regular at our house. My parents entrusted me to him, saying things like “Take care of Ji Yeon for us Chan Yeol. When there are bullies, make sure to protect her ^_^”

“Of course I will! If she doesn’t protect herself first!”

True enough, it’s not me but Chan Yeol who was actually getting bullied. There was a guy at school called Kim Jong In.

(By the way, the kid is really in Chan Yeol =) Hahaha. It was him in sixth grade when he joined the ferret club)
