Say My Name

♡ Between Braids and Kisses ♡

Taemin stepped inside the house, feeling a little bit happy, because he had to tell his parents about his good grades. Even though he was a gay son, and his father disliked him in certain ways, he always got praised whenever he got such good grades. Being praised by his father, who thought he was disgusting, actually made Taemin quite happy in some strange way. Maybe it was just because, he somehow still hoped, that his father would be able to accept it sooner or later.

Taemin froze slightly, as a heavy sigh escaped his lips. His eyes were pinned to the small, yellow lap of paper, which were hung on the wall just inside his house on his right. He didn’t have to think much to know, that it probably meant he had to be alone that day, right? His parents sometimes just left him alone, putting a sticky note on the wall, or window, next to the door to the house. He hated it.

It made him feel like they didn’t even want to tell him, that they were going. Was it because, his face always looked so hurt and broken?

“… I got an A…” murmured Taemin quietly, as if his parents were standing next to him, even though they were far away, gone to some meeting where his father and mother both had to stay – oh! And they wouldn’t be home before early the next day! Great, isn’t it?

“ this ,” growled Taemin low, before he ripped the sticky note off the wall and crumbled it in his hand, not giving a damn about his parents at that moment. It just once again showed, how much they actually cared about their only son.

Growling something under his breath, he threw the crumbled piece of paper on the floor, and went into the kitchen, swearing inside his head about his perfect life. As a son, he couldn’t help but feel bad, of course, that his father didn’t like him, that his father were ashamed to have a son like him! When you do something “wrong” around there, it didn’t just influence you, but it influenced your whole family, too.

He remember that his dad once were having a hard time on his job, because some of his employees had sons or daughters, who attended Taemin’s school and therefor knew about Taemin’s uality. Of course, they told their parents, who then gave Taemin’s father digusted glares at work. Luckily, that ended really fast, since Taemin’s father wasn’t someone you’d want as an enemy.

Taemin took a deep breath as he opened the refrigerator to get something easy to eat – he was starving! He hadn’t been able to eat all day, because he had been so nervous to actually see Kai again.

With his head halfway inside the refrigerator, enjoying the coldness a little bit, being in his own mind… He got a huge shock and nearly hit his head against the wall of the refrigerator, as he suddenly got a text.

“The hell?!”

He grabbed some bread from the refrigerator, before he closed it again, and checked his text. It was just Suho, even though Taemin didn’t remember giving his number to that shorter male. Nonetheless, Suho just told him, that they would be done in a few minutes.

Great, he could be expecting to see Kai in about half an hour, maybe less. Why hadn’t he just waited for him to be done, instead? It was just about five in the evening, because of all the students in Taemin’s class who had to attend the exam that day – oh, and Taemin was one of the last students to attend.

He just texted Suho back that it was okay… Followed by asking him, once again, what his real name was, because he still wanted to know! Taemin was just curious like that, and there was nothing to do about it.

However, he was rejected, once again, which made Taemin frown slightly.

Taemin went upstairs to his room, and walked inside – having the half eaten piece of bread in his mouth, not really caring about how stupid it might look.

“Hey, princess,” said a deep voice the very second, Taemin stepped inside his room – looking stupid because of the bread in his mouth – and yet, there Kai sat, on Taemin’s bed with a cocky smile over his lips, fighting to hold back a laugh from the surprised look on Taemin’s face.

“W-What… Suho just texted me saying that you would soon be done… How come you’re already here?!” Taemin managed to say, despite the bread making him huff the half of his words, barely making Kai unable to understand a thing.

“Oh, I just ran for it. As soon as Suho went away for a second, I fled,” Kai laughed, leaning back on his bed while he was holding a picture in his hand, smiling at it, “You looked so cute as a child, Taeminnie.”

“E-Eh? You’re looking at that, still?” Taemin exclaimed, making Kai smile cutely at him as Taemin finished the piece of bread and put his school bag down next to his bed, sighing deeply.

“I’m sorry, baby,” Kai chuckled softly and sat up as he stretched to plant a small kiss on Taemin’s cheek. However, there was something in Kai’s voice that made Taemin a little bit worried. A small part of Kai, almost seemed… Sad? In some strange way… But why? Had Taemin done something wrong?

“Taeminnie, do you love me as much as your childhood love?” Kai asked, turning the picture at Taemin, showing him the picture of Taemin and his tanned childhood friend, who had Taemin’s first kiss long ago. It made Taemin swallow slightly at Kai’s strange question, which didn’t really make much sense. How should he compare his feelings towards his childhood friend, to his boyfriend when he was a grown-up?

“K-Kai… That…” Taemin stuttered, looking a little bit away from Kai, who just let out a small sigh as he rolled his eyes at the elder.

“Never mind it, then…” murmured Kai, feeling a bit down once again. It made Taemin’s heart ache a little bit, seeing his boyfriend was being annoyed because of his actions. Kai had just come to see Taemin, to entertain him a little bit, because they hadn’t been together alone for a long time, and then this happened? What kind of a boyfriend was Taemin, exactly?

It made him feel really bad, and he wanted to apologize to his handsome boyfriend – just because he loved him too much, to make him sad. He wanted to see his beautiful smile more than anything in the whole world!

“K-Kai, I…” Taemin stuttered carefully, but was quickly interrupted by his phone ringing, making him curse under his breath as he sent Kai a short, apologizing look – however, the younger wasn’t even looking at Taemin at that time, so he didn’t see it. Instead, Taemin just carefully took the picture, which was lying next to Kai at that time, and went a bit away to pick up his phone.

Whoever it was who called him, it’d better be important!

“Hello, this it Lee Taemin,” Taemin sighed deeply as he stood in the other end of his rather big room, talking into his phone while looking at the picture in his hand. He ignored the annoyed, displeased groans coming from the young guy behind him.

“Taemin!! Thank God, you picked up! Is Kai there?!” the person on the phone asked, showing clear signs of confusion and worry in his voice. However, he just made Taemin laugh a little bit under his breath – laughing slightly at the too worried Suho “umma”.

“Yeah, he’s here. Don’t worry about it, hyung,” Taemin said with a small smile, “He came shortly after you texted me, actually.”

“That son of a bi-… No wait, he’s my son…”

“You’re not a , Suho hyung, you’re just worried for your wolf cubs, that’s all,” Taemin laughed again, “You and Kyungsoo, that is.”

“And Kris, too… He just doesn’t show it half as much as we do,” Suho added with a small sigh.

“Anything else?” Taemin asked, looking back at Kai over his shoulder. The young gang leader was now lying on his back, looking up at the ceiling of Taemin’s room, not really caring much about whom Taemin was talking with.

However, there was still this sad look on his face, so Taemin had to look away from him, if he didn’t want to feel even worse than he already did.

“No that’s all… Is he okay?” Suho murmured on the phone, feeling a bit unfocused.

“He’s just a bit…” Taemin sighed deeply, looking down, “D-Did I do something wrong? He seems upset or sad.” Taemin’s voice was a really, really quiet whisper, and he most of all just felt like crying at that time. What had he done to Kai, since he was so mad at him? Was he too clingy? Was it because he mentioned the earlier that day? Or was it just because he was disgusting, as always?

What if Kai wanted to break up with him, and that was the main reason why he came to see Taemin?

“H-He’s still sad? Oh…” Suho stuttered on the phone, biting his lower lip a little bit, thinking and wondering about what to do about this. Suho, as the caring “umma” he was, didn’t want Taemin to feel guilty for such a thing, because this was all caused by Kai’s stupidity.

Of course, Suho did know what was wrong. He and Kai had been talking about the subject a lot of times while Taemin was having his exams.

“I-I guess so…” Taemin whispered quietly, looking down at the picture in his hand as he felt like his tears coming forth.

“Taemin, I need to tell you something,” Suho’s calming voice said, making Taemin take a deep breath as he nodded slightly – his eyes not leaving the features of his childhood friend’s face on the picture for one second.

“What is it, hyung?”

There was a short silence, Taemin could barely hear his hyung breath on the phone – it was just completely mute, as if he was hesitating really much. As if he didn’t know what to do, and what not to do. Suho just didn’t want Taemin to feel guilty, that’s all.

“My real name is Joonmyeon.”

And then he hung up.

Leaving Taemin completely frozen in surprise, confusion and… The truth.

Taemin’s stare was still on the picture, as he felt his heart racing faster and faster, feeling completely dumbfounded. He unconsciously put his phone back into his pocket, his stare not leaving the photo for one second – only as he turned to look at Kai, still lying on the bed, not having moved once inch. As he stood there, and watched him, he couldn’t help but curse at himself inside his head.

How could I be so blind? I’m such a bastard for not noticing.

Taemin didn’t say anything, as he walked back to Kai, looking at his boyfriend’s face by every step – noticing, how he started to look more and more like him. Everything about him reminded Taemin of him. How come, he hadn’t noticed it earlier?! If only he had, then everything might’ve been so much better.

Taemin sat down on the bedside, next to Kai, and just looked at him for a few more seconds, making Kai a little bit annoyed and nervous – of course, he just sat there! Looking at him, like some kind of stalker! It was slightly creepy, wasn’t it?

“W-What is it?” Kai murmured as his eyes flickered a little bit and he forced himself to look away from the elder, “You’re scaring me, hyung…” Kai’s innocent words, made Taemin’s heart flutter a little bit, eventually making him smile a bit.

And then Taemin couldn’t help but kiss his boyfriend’s plump, precious lips, with a small smirk. As their lips met, all the memories from Taemin’s past came running back into his head, nearly making him all dizzy from all the pictures and thoughts!

But the memory, that was the most clear at that moment… Was his first kiss.

That day, long ago, in the tent.

“It’s you…” Taemin whispered softly against Kai’s lips as Kai returned the kiss, not really understanding at that time, what his hyung was talking about.

“W-Who?” Kai stuttered slightly in the kiss, feeling his own heart ache as he saw the tears in the corners of Taemin’s eyes, and the sweet smile on his lips. A few tears ran down Taemin’s slightly chubby, silky cheeks, and landed on the bedsheet under them. The older couldn’t help but the younger’s cheek gently, feeling his soft skin under his long, thin fingers.

“It’s you, Jongin,” Taemin whispered and kissed Kai’s lips deeply, without a single hint of hesitation. He quickly felt Kai’s arms incredibly tight around his waist, as he was pulled closer to the younger’s body – making their chests touch, feeling the other’s heartbeat.

Kai’s arms suddenly touching all of Taemin’s body, as a few tears started running down the cheeks of the tanned guy.

No, the arms around Taemin weren’t Kai’s.

It was Jongin’s arms.
