Chapter Eighty-Eight (REAL)

They were back at the bottom of the hill. Victoria was attending to Yoona since she was the only one who knew first aid. However, she was only a beginner in the medical field, and not to mention, they did not have sufficient medical kit. It wasn’t enough for Yoona at all.

“Unnie, how’s Yoona?” Yuri asked as soon as Victoria retreated from Yoona. She wished she could offer the older hunter some help, but she knew nothing about medical except bandaging minor wounds.

Victoria looked unusually stern. “Two of her rib bones are fractured. We have to send her to the hospital immediately.” She couldn’t tell what broke Yoona’s ribs, but she assumed it was the tree bark since Wooyoung found her there. She might have tripped and rolled down the hill. The tree managed to stop her from getting to the bottom, but the impact she received should not be mild.

“Un… unnie… is… tha… that… you?”

The sudden call from the familiar voice startled her. Yuri was stunned for a second until she realized Yoona was the one calling for her. She rushed to her side immediately and held her shoulders gently.

“Yoona!” Yuri couldn’t hold back those tears that had gathered almost in an instant when she heard Yoona’s weak voice. This is Yoona! She was the little sister who she adored the most! Yuri couldn’t believe her eyes when she found Yoona in this state. It was merely a few hours ago when Yoona was still having a cheery conversation with Jessica, but now… she was struggling to speak!

“Un… unnie… Sooyoung––Ah!” Yoona flinched in agony when she felt a sharp pain on the side of her body. It hurt her so much that she even stopped her breathing for a second.

“Yoona!” Damn it! How she wished she could suffer those injuries on behalf of Yoona. “Yoona, slow down! Don’t worry, I’m listening to you. Just tell where Sooyoung is slowly. I will look for her.” If only Yoona wasn’t distracted by the injuries, she would have felt Yuri’s trembles.

Yuri was truly frightened by the situation. They did a search around the area where they found Yoona, but there was no sight of Sooyoung at all. She couldn’t imagine the possible outcome of the missing hunter when Yoona was already in this state when they found her.

What if… What if…

Yuri bit onto her bottom lip tightly as she tried to stop herself from tearing even more.

“The… tomb…” Yoona struggled to speak once again. She might be in pain, but at least she was saved by their fellow mates. Sooyoung… she had sacrificed herself just to get her out of that tomb. She had to inform them about Sooyoung before it was too late. “There… There are… ma… many mutants… inside…”

“What tomb? Where is the tomb?”

“On.. top… of th… the… hill…” Yoona tried to reach for Yuri’s hand, but she was too restless to do so. “Un… Unnie…”

Yuri noticed her action. She quickly held Yoona’s hand in hers and pulled it close to her chest.

“I’m here!”

“Plea…se…”

Tears burst out of her eyes in an instant. Yoona had completely forgotten her injury as she cried out loud.

“Save Sooyoung!”

Sunny was going through every corner of the tomb in fluster. The pace of her heartbeat quickened whenever she approached the corners. She wished she could find the hidden mutants, but her eyes only met the cold walls of the abandoned premise after every turn she made.

The sorceress was getting more and more impatient and frustrated as time goes by. It was about an hour ago when the three of them arrived at this place and as expected, they found an opening on the barrier that was created to protect and restrict the mutants within the tomb. The cracks around the opening were similar to the ones which Kim Hyoyeon broke previously. It automatically led them to believe that the culprit was Hyoyeon again.

Sunny regretted deeply for not moving the mutants to another place when Kim Hyoyeon broke in the other time. They wouldn’t have to face this problem if only they had hidden the mutants in a more secretive place.

“Sunny! How’s your side?”

The sorceress looked over and found Narsha approaching her from the other side. Sweats were all over her forehead, which was an unusual sight because Narsha never liked to overwork herself and allow sweats to spoil her makeup.

Not that she was actually wearing her makeup now (since they came over when they were about to sleep), but it was still rare to see sweats all over Narsha.

Sunny pulled out a packet of tissues from her pocket and passed it to Narsha. “I didn’t spot any of them and I couldn’t summon them either.” Sunny held out both of her hands and made a hundred and eighty degree turn, having her palms facing upwards. A blue color orb appeared hovering over her left palm, while an indigo orb appeared hovering over her right palm. “I’ve tried to call them for several times, but there were no response.”

“Are they dead?”

A voice which belonged to a third party asked the question. It startled the two sorceresses as they jumped up in shock and turned to the person. It appeared to be Nickhun who was done with his search.

“Oh my gosh! Nickhun! Can you make some noise when you walk?” Narsha reprimanded frustratingly. She thought her heart almost jumped out of her body for a moment.

“I teleport here.”

That explained why he looked cooler as compared to Narsha.

“Okay, whatever.” Sunny interrupted the both of them annoyingly. She was certainly not in the mood to discuss trivial matters. “I don’t think the mutants are dead yet. Their corpses are not here and it doesn’t seem to me that that Kim Hyoyeon had burnt them away.” There could only be two options why the mutants were not present. Firstly, they were dead. Secondly, they had left the tomb.

Sunny feared for the second option. She wished she was wrong, but the second option was far more logical than the first one, seeing how no corpses or burn marks were on the ground.

“Could it be someone took them away?” Nickhun voiced out his query.

Narsha let out a sarcastic snort, “Who could have taken them away? That Kim Hyoyeon?” Kim Hyoyeon might be capable in escaping from them, but she was definitely incapable in controlling the mutants. The only people who were able to control the mutants were the five of them and––Goosebumps grew on her skin in split second. Narsha trembled uncontrollably as she asked, “Wait a minute, what if it is……” She didn’t dare to finish her sentence. She was too terrified to even think of that possibility.

“The Princess.” Sunny continued the rest of the sentence for Narsha. She was thinking of the Princess too when Nickhun asked that question. “Taeyeon told me once that she thinks that the Princess is here. I didn’t believe her at first, but I had a strange encounter with one of the hunters when I tried to kill Tiffany the other day.”

Narsha was surprised, “What strange encounter? You never told us any of these.”

“There was another hunter with Tiffany when I tried to kill her. I think I heard Tiffany calling her ‘Yoon’ something… I can’t really remember her name. She actually managed to nullify all of my magic attacks.”

“Is it Yoon-A?” Nickhun asked. “I remembered seeing that name the other time when you showed us the names of the elite hunters.”

“Yeah, I think that’s her name––” Sunny darted her eyes to the direction of the entrance suddenly. “Someone’s coming!”  She felt several people passing through the broken barrier around the tomb. “There are a few of them!”

“! There is no place to hide!” Narsha started to panic when she noticed they were at a dead end of the tomb. She had no idea who those intruders were, but one thing for sure, normal people would never come to this place especially during the midnight.

“How about there?” Nickhun pointed at the big gap on the ceiling. “We can try to teleport over there and hide for the time being.”

Narsha was unsure of it. “But…”

“Ugh! Come on! We have no time to lose! Nickhun, just grab your sister-in-law with you and teleport out!”

Yuri, Wooyoung and Junho were dashing through the empty hallway with Yuri leading in the front. Victoria had volunteered to send Yoona back to the headquarters and Amber decided that she should follow her partner in case the enemy ambushed them.

“Sooyoung! Where are you!” Yuri’s anxious voice amplified through the empty path. They had combed through every single corner which they came across, but everywhere was empty. There was neither soul nor mutant anywhere. It was as if they didn’t even exist in the first place. “Sooyoung! Can you hear me? It’s me, Yuri! Please answer me!” The lack of response was gradually draining Yuri’s hope away.  She felt as though she had returned to the time whereby she found a stoned Sooyoung on the ground.

Nobody knew what happened to her, how she became traumatized and was left alone like that. But whatever it was, at least she recovered. She could gobble her snacks like how she did usually and no one needed to worry for her.

But now, tragedy had taken place for her again.

Yoona said they were ambushed by a large group of mutants. Those mutants were different from the ones they met in the past because they acted like a normal human, except that they couldn’t speak and their skins were rotten. They had difficulties in handling the mutants. If Sooyoung hadn’t thrown her out of the surrounding mutants, she wouldn’t have had the chance to escape the tomb. It was precisely because of Sooyoung’s sacrificial, Yoona was able to be found and rescued by them.

However, if the mutants were like how Yoona had described, it seemed that there was only one possibility to Sooyoung’s outcome.

She… could have been killed by them.

“Sooyoung!” Yuri continued to call for her friend. She wouldn’t care if was hurting. It was devastating enough to find an injured Yoona. She couldn’t bear to see a similar or worst situation happened to her other friend.

She hadn’t even apologized to her yet.

“Sooyoung! Answer me! It’s Yuri! We’re here to help you! Sooyoung!”

Wooyoung and Junho had been examining their surroundings. The further they went in, the more they felt they had come to the wrong place. This place was obviously empty. It even looked like it was abandoned for years.

“Yuri!” Junho fastened his pace and caught up with the panicking hunter. “I think we’re at the wrong place? There’s nothing in here.”

“This is the only place on top of the hill!” Yuri turned around and shouted at Junho agitatedly. Even with minimal lightings, fury could be seen burning furiously in her eyes. “Yoona said she met the mutants in here! She won’t lie to us!”

“I’m not saying Yoona is lying to us.” Junho rolled his eyes at Yuri. He was annoyed by her reaction. He meant nothing negative. There was no need for her to shout. “I’m saying we could have gone to the wrong place. There’s nothing in here!”

“Hey chill, let’s not get into a fight.” Wooyoung quickly stepped in when he noticed the two were getting a little bit too overheated. He observed both Junho and Yuri before averting his gaze to the walls beside them. “I don’t think we’re at the wrong place.”

Junho questioned immediately, “What do you mean?” They were already near the end of the tomb, but nothing had been found.

“Look at this.” Wooyoung approached the wall and traced his fingers over a deep mark which was drawn across it. “These are fresh markings. Don’t you think they look like they’ve been slashed across by an axe?”

Wooyoung’s assumption brought realization upon Yuri. She was too focused in searching for Sooyoung that she failed to notice this little information which was around her.

She quickly went to the opposite wall and examined the markings on it. They looked like they were created by a sharp object, probably something like blade. Judging from the size and the depth of the marks, it seemed that Wooyoung’s conclusion was correct.

Those markings were created by an axe.

“Crap!” Junho’s exclamation attracted the other two. They turned around and found Junho squatting on the ground which was some distance away from them. “Come over here! I found it!”

His comment alerted the two hunters. They both ditched the walls in unison and ran towards Junho in their fastest speed.

“Where is Sooyoun––”

Junho put a hand up and stopped Yuri from talking. He pointed at the object which was lying on the ground.

“It’s her axe.”

Oh my gosh author-nim. You're story is so awesome that I just couldn't stop reading it till the last chapter....!!! Really, honestly one of the best i've read in a while..

I was so sad to read the note at the end..
But ultimately it is your story and well, i am just one of your readers,so I respect how you feel about continuing the rest of this daebak, jjang story

However, i am still honestly wishing, praying, and hoping that you would eventually finish this story and tell us what happens to hunters tiff, yul, yoong, and soo + sorceress tae, sunny + hyo and of course princess sica...

Nevertheless, i am still subscribing to this story hoping to one day see it on top of my "new updates" fic list...
