Chapter Fourteen

Taeyeon gulped and leaned even closer. Her eyes stared straight into Tiffany’s crescent-shaped eyes when she felt the latter’s breath under her nose. She closed her eyes then, wanting to seal Tiffany’s lips away with her own ones when she suddenly felt a cold metallic object pressing against them.

She opened her eyes right away and found a fork pressing against her lips, preventing her from stealing the kiss. She looked up from that utensil and formed a puppy expression on her face.

“Eat your breakfast, silly.” Tiffany laughed and pushed Taeyeon back to her seat with the fork. She sat down on her chair and grinned at the kiddy girl.

Taeyeon pouted, clearly dissatisfied with Tiffany’s rejection.

Upon seeing Taeyeon’s reaction, Tiffany shook her head and purposely let out a heavy sigh through her nose. Those puppy eyes looked too pitiful, it made her felt as though she was a villain if she continued to reject her desire.

“We will talk about that after you finish your food.” Tiffany gave in to Taeyeon eventually.

Taeyeon’s eyes brightened up immediately. “Promise?”

Tiffany chuckled, “Yeah promise.”

Frustrated, Yuri leaned back and allowed the back of her head to rest against the wall behind. She had been trying to contact Tiffany for the past ten minutes, but the signal never went through at all, as if Tiffany’s device doesn’t exist. She felt like throwing her device at the wall and smashed it up, but that would be too crazy, besides, the device got nothing to do with this.

Sooyoung and Yoona approached her. While Yoona took a seat next to Yuri, Sooyoung stood in front of her with her arms folded in front of her chest.

“Unnie, you still can’t get hold of Fany unnie?” Yoona asked worriedly.

Yuri huffed out a heavy breath and shook her head. Tiffany’s signal had vanished once again, just like that day when they met a mutant in the city.

Sooyoung was just as worried as her friends. Yoona and she returned to the headquarters three hours later than Yuri. It was unusual for Tiffany to take such a long time to return, but the best thing to do now was to stay calm and think positively instead of panicking with the others.

She doesn’t want the whole bunch of them to go insane, yet.

“Guys, I’m sure Tiffany will be just fine. She is one of our best hunters around remember? I will go out and look for her. And Yoona, I think you should come with me. As for Yuri, you got a casualty to look after, so meanwhile, stay here and calm yourself down alright? You know Tiffany hates it when people go crazy for her. She might be mad if she knows you’re acting like this.”

Yuri nodded reluctantly. Though she hated to admit it, she had to agree with Sooyoung. Tiffany disliked people panicked for her. She said they made her looked like a weakling who had no ability to protect herself when, ironically, she was one of the hunters who ran around the world and protected the innocents lives from getting harmed by the mutants.

She sighed again, watching the shikshin duo left.

Yuri knew she was over reacting for getting so worked up, but Tiffany isn’t just anyone to her. They might not be lovers, but Tiffany was still an important existence to her. They had been through too many, countless obstacles together. How they helped each other along the way, giving each other support and… those nights they shared whenever they need each other. If Yuri hadn’t made a promise with Tiffany, she would think they were dating, but sadly, she wasn’t allowed to.

The hunter suddenly smacked herself hard on the forehead. What was she thinking again? She made a promise with Tiffany remember? If she kept thinking about those things, she might just fall in love with Tiffany again. So stop! Stop! Stop!

The sounds of door opening snapped Yuri out of her thoughts. She lifted up her head and found that the light board had dimmed down already. Surgeons and nurses were making their way out of the operation theater.

She rose from her seat immediately and stopped the surgeon whom she stopped earlier on.

“Doctor! How is the patient? Is she alright?”

The surgeon turned to Yuri with a smile plastered on his face, “That is a close one Yuri. If the mutant attacked any deeper, she may not be able to pass through this. No worries though! It may be a deep cut, but fortunately it didn’t reach her organs. We had sewed up the wound already, all she needs to do is to rest properly for about two months and everything will be just fine.”

“Will she turn into a mutant?” That was the most crucial problem Yuri worried about. Watching that innocent lady mutated into a mutant was the last thing she ever wanted to see.

The surgeon shook his head, “We haven’t got an answer to that yet, but we’ve gotten a sample of her skin. I will ask the researchers to inform you when they get the result.”

“Thanks doc!”

“You’re welcome. The nurses had sent her to the ward. You can visit her if you want. I got to go now, see you around.”

Yuri bid the surgeon goodbye and immediately headed off to the ward. She wondered how the angel was doing now… Had she awakened? Or was she still unconscious?

Whatever it is, as long as she is safe and sound, anything is fine.

Pushing the door open, Yuri entered the ward. The angel she had been worrying for was sleeping soundly on the single bed provided. Yuri closed the door gently behind her and moved to the chair which was set right next to the bed.

She settled down, gaze landed upon the sleeping figure.

Her condition had gotten better, the originally pale-looking cheeks and lips were rosier than before. There was also a slight curve on her lips, it made her looked more like an angel, a peaceful and innocent one, to Yuri.

Yuri was relieved. She almost thought this lady wouldn’t survive the attack. The amount of blood which stained her white dress was so horrible that nobody would think she was able to survive thateasily.

But in any case, she managed to pull it through.

“Glad to see that you’re fine now. I’m really sorry for not being able to protect you from the mutant…”

Her fingers touched her smooth skin of her face. A strand of hair was sticking to her cheek, so Yuri gently pushed it away. She stood up from her seat, leaning closer to Jessica. Though it was a pity that she couldn’t see her with her eyes open now, but Jessica still looked as beautiful as when she was wide awake. Yuri thought her features were too perfect … She really seemed like she didn’t belong to this world, more like an angel who descended from the heaven.

“Forgive me, Angel…” Yuri whispered guiltily into the sleeping beauty’s ear.

Tiffany volunteered to do the washing and took the plates to the basin before Taeyeon could stop her. Just as she placed the plates into the basin, Taeyeon caught up from behind, pulling her by the arm, preventing her from doing the chores.

“I’ll do the washing Tiffany––”

Tiffany flinched upon Taeyeon’s touch, almost stepping onto Taeyeon’s foot.

“What’s wrong?” Taeyeon immediately sensed the tension in Tiffany. She pulled Tiffany by her hand this time, turning her around to face her. It was then she noticed the opening on Tiffany’s sleeves. Dried blood could be seen from underneath it. “You’re injured?!” Taeyeon exclaimed and looked up, the furious on her face stunned Tiffany.

Tiffany tried to pull her hand back, but Taeyeon was grabbing her too tightly. “It is just a small cut…”

“Your reaction doesn’t look like it is small to me!” Taeyeon yelled angrily. “Come with me!” She dragged Tiffany along with her to the living room and made her sat on the couch. “Don’t move! I will be right back!” With that, she spun around and ran upstairs. She came back a few minutes later with a first aid box in her hands.

Tiffany watched her, bewildered. She never thought Taeyeon would have such a big reaction. This certainly surprised her.

Taeyeon took out the antiseptic bottle and bandages from the first aid box. She turned to Tiffany who was watching her curiously. “Take off your jacket.” She commanded.

Usually, Tiffany would not obey to this kind of order, but strangely, Taeyeon had this aura in her which made Tiffany hardly able to disobey her instruction.

Tiffany obediently took off her jacket and threw it aside. Underneath the jacket was a piece of tight fitting black tank top covering the top part of her body. Taeyeon froze upon looking at the body which was exposed right in front of her eyes.

She always thought Tiffany has a nice body and indeed, she does have one, but it is better than what she had in mind and memories.

Her gaze naturally trailed off to Tiffany’s chest, she wondered how it will be like if she––

Darkness suddenly overtook her vision right before she was able to think about some rated content, and Tiffany’s voice rang in her ears almost immediately, “Your eyes are intruding Taeyeon.”

Taeyeon shrugged. She smirked and replied, “I can’t help it when your body looks so seductively attractive.” Then, she felt a smack on her forehead and the warm hand covering her eyes was gone.

Tiffany was smiling at her, the attractive pair of eyes had once again, mesmerized Taeyeon.

“I’m going to leave if you don’t want to clean this wound for me.” This threatening sentence definitely didn’t fit that attractive expression of hers.

Taeyeon felt the hairs of her back standing. Tiffany might look nice and friendly, but that didn’t mean she was someone who could be bullied easily. Taeyeon swallowed the saliva that was formed in unknowingly and quickly opened the bottle of antiseptic. She wet the cotton ball with it before pressing it down on Tiffany’s wound.

Tiffany flinched a little.

“Did I hurt you?” Taeyeon paused, looking up at Tiffany with a worried expression written on her face, but except for that little flinch, Tiffany looked calmer than what Taeyeon had expected.

Tiffany returned her an assurance smile, “Nah, I’m fine. Just continue with it.”

And so, Taeyeon proceeded on with the cleaning.

After cleaning off the dried blood, Taeyeon realized Tiffany’s wound was much deeper than what she thought. Looking at the deep opening on Tiffany’s arm, she felt a sting in her chest. However, she quickly ignored it and applied medicine on the wound and bandaged it.

You can’t fall in love with her again, Kim Taeyeon. You can’t.

After everything was done, Taeyeon bent forward and planted a kiss on Tiffany’s bandaged arm. Tiffany looked at her in astonishment and laughed.

“What are you doing?”

Placing another kiss on it again, Taeyeon smiled and answered, “I’m telling my medicine and bandages to not leave scars on your arm. I hope they’ll listen to me.” She playfully stuck out her tongue at Tiffany.

Tiffany rolled her eyes at Taeyeon, but the smile on her face betrayed her thoughts.

Taeyeon knew Tiffany enjoyed her mushy lines. She pulled Tiffany into her embrace and wrapped her arms around Tiffany’s waist. “I think you owe me something.”

Tiffany turned her head away from Taeyeon, pretending to be ignorance.

“You’re not going to break your promise, are you?” Taeyeon pouted, but her hands started to venture towards two different directions – north and south.

Tiffany stopped her of course. She glared at Taeyeon, “I don’t remember I promised this.”

“So that means you do remember our promise.” Taeyeon grinned at her playfully. She leaned closer towards Tiffany. “Are you going to fulfill it now? I’m not a patient kid for your information.”

Tiffany couldn’t help but laughed at her words, “You’re certainly not a kid in my eyes.” Taeyeon pouted and Tiffany happily pinched her cheeks lightly, “But you sure look like one whenever you do that.”

“So are you going to reward this kid now, or no? Be reminded that this kid can be aggressive sometimes.” Taeyeon her lips mischievously.

Tiffany eyed Taeyeon from head to toes, “Oh, really?”

Taeyeon nodded her head furiously. The expression in her eyes looked deprived, almost like a hungry wolf eyeing a delicious sheep, wanting to devour it anytime.

Tiffany shook her head helplessly with a snort, she wondered if she should be angry at this girl’s boldness or laugh at her naughtiness.

She came to a decision eventually. Inhaling in a deep breath, Tiffany wrapped her arms around Taeyeon’s neck. She leaned towards Taeyeon’s ear and a husky, y voice escaped .

“Show me how aggressive this kid can be then.”
