Chapter 35

Daydream

Himchan’s P.O.V.

“Calm down, hyung,” Daehyun smiled at me, lacing his fingers with mine as we continued down the street. “I’m sure it’s nothing.”

I shook my head, the sweat of anxiety drenching my body, the bitter taste disgusting as I swallowed. “I-it’s something, believe me,” I assured him, running my unoccupied hand through my hair. This is bad, this is real bad.

     “Hey, Himchan!”

     “Oh, what’s up, Yong Guk?”

     “Busy this Saturday?”

     “U-uhm… No, why?”

“Ya, calm down, dude, I was just wondering if you could stop by?”

     “Huh? S-sure, I’ll be there.”

“Great! Bring Daehyun, yeah? I’ll see ya, bye!”

     “W-what? No, wait, Yong–”

Daehyun exhaled, putting on a sweet smile. “Cheer up, hm?” Cheer up? Cheer up!? How can I possible cheer up? Yong Guk is probably pissed, not accepting the fact that I’ve lied to him, keeping my… my relationship with Daehyun a secret. But how the hell should I’ve told him anyway? He would’ve ripped my head off either way… , that is probably what he’s gonna do today! He’s got it all planned out; most likely inviting every friend of ours, lining them up to watch as he would behead me, all of them applauding and cheering as my head would fall to the floor… Oh gosh, what a scene! What a tragedy!

But Yong Guk is my friend… He wouldn’t do that, would he? He’d be mad as hell, but he wouldn’t kill me. Would he? Seriously, would he?

“I’m gonna die, I’m gonna die…” I panicked, Daehyun giggling beside me.

“If you’re gonna die, I’m gonna be the killer,” he said, poking my ribs. T-the what? The killer? Pictures of Daehyun beheading me instead of Yong Guk started fading up in my mind, giving me the most awful creeps. This is just– What?

I stared at him, frowning in confusion and terror. “Huh? What the hell was that?” I exclaimed, watching as he smiled and shrugged, something evil twinkling in his bright eyes. An overwhelming sensation of anxiety mixed with adrenalin rushed over me, the look in his eyes piercing through my suddenly brittle, frail body. W-what is that? That look that seems so familiar but not in his eyes… Ripping and burning. Cutting! As if I was of jelly… a Jelly Bean! Hard on the outside but soft with a weird taste on the inside. Wait, what? No, I’m delicious! The taste of Kim Himchan is delicious! … A-a-and apparently, Daehyun think so t-too… Aish, his eyes are breaking through my crust, I can’t– No, what the– I freaked out, shivering and gulping. Could it be…? No! No, it couldn’t!

“Oh,” his eyes averted, his hold of my hand tightening. “Here we are,” he smiled, stopping the both of us. Slowly turning to my right, I looked up to spot the windows of Yong Guk’s apartment – the place of my death. The last place I would set foot. The place I would–

“Let’s go,” Daehyun pulled me along, up the stairs. My blood froze, my body going stiff and numb as we climbed the steps, Daehyun rather amused by my rigid legs and knees, my figure more like a stickman than an actually bendable human being.

Eventually ending up in front of Yong Guk’s front door, I let Daehyun knock, my arms just as stiff and trembling as the rest of my body.

“Anybody there?” Daehyun called, his voice a little shaky, but not as much as mine would’ve been. I gasped, holding my breath as the door handle was pushed down from the other side of the door, a faint sound of music streaming out as the door slowly cracked open.

“They’re here, come on!” Yong Guk’s voice yelled, his face soon visible as he opened the door, looking out on us. “Hey!” He exclaimed, a wide smile on his face.

“Hi,” Daehyun peeped, waving a little at him. Yong Guk politely nodded at him, his eyes suddenly shifting over at me, making me flinch. Oh, the terror! Oh Sweet Lord!

“Himchan!” He beamed, his eyes wandering across my frozen face. Still, my eyes widened as a figure quickly appeared under his arm, popping its head out the door.

“Junhong-ah!” Daehyun exclaimed, the brightest smile filling his pretty face. Letting his hand fall from the doorframe, Yong Guk’s arm settled on the boy, his hand resting on his hip. I blinked a few times, staring at the hand, my heart racing and pumping in my chest. What? What is this? Yong Guk and this boy… J-junhong? W-what? What’s going on? I don’t–

“– Understand…” I spoke out loud, all of their eyes looking at me.

“Are you okay?” Daehyun asked in whisper, leaning in closer to me. ”Hyung?”

“I’m great!” I exclaimed, putting on the best smile I could manage – it might’ve come off a little awkward, but what the hell. “I’m superb, really fantastic!”

Both Junhong and Daehyun frowned while Yong Guk just smiled and chuckled, reaching out to pad my shoulder. “Perfect. Come in, yeah?”

“I’ve got something to show you, Daehyun-ah,” Junhong said, grabbing unto Daehyun’s wrist, pulling him off me and through the door – both of them disappearing down the hall and around the corner.

I looked at Yong Guk, trying to prepare myself. Okay, this must be it. My death. My tragic, painful and completely earned punishment, oh gosh... Death penalty. “Yong Guk, I–”

“Great you could make it, bud,” he smiled at me, his hand pulling me inside while I wondered if he could hear how loud my heart was hammering against my ribs. Ah, so painful! “I called Young Jae too, he’ll be here anytime, I think,” he continued, closing the door behind us. “Junhong wanted to invite another one of his friends too, so–“

“Great!” I yelled, my arms flying around. “Bring aaaall the people! Bring the boys out!”

He stared at me, frozen at the door. “W-what?”

“I want a gigantic audience! Call them. Call them! All of them!” I continued, only now realizing the lack of self-control I clearly suffered from. Am I freaking him out? Good! If I’m dying, I’m going down with style! Kim Himchan style.

“What? Who? What are you–“ he shook his head, the smile returning to his face as he put his arm around my shoulder. “Something wrong, Channie?”

I flinched, staring at him. “C-channie?”

He shrugged and smiled, leaving me hanging like Daehyun had – but without that weird light in his eyes, thank ing God.

“Ya, Gukkie!” Junhong yelled from the living room, my eyes widening even more, my face seriously hurting. What is happening!? Yong Guk snorted, covering up the smile on his face with his hand as he lowered his head. He then looked a little torn, a knock on the front door echoing throughout the hallway.

“I-I’ll get it,” I offered, glancing back at the door. Thanking me, he continued into the living room, leaving me with the knocking sound getting a little louder and annoying. “Coming!” I yelled, complaining a little as I turned around and walked back, ripping the door open.

“Oh. H-himchan,” Young Jae stuttered, staring right back at me.

“’Sup,” I said, nodding at him before looking over at the guy standing beside him. “Who’s this?” I asked, pointing at the little, shy fella avoiding my eyes.

Young Jae scratched the back of his head, shrugging a little. “Actually… I don’t really know.” Well, apparently, it’s that friend of Junhong. Hm.

I shook my head, waving my hands around. “Whatever, get in, both of you,” I exhaled, turning around and walking away from the door. “You’re in for a great show, guys!”

“What do you mean?” Young Jae asked, catching up to me, obviously letting the kid handle the door.

“Yong Guk is killing me today,” I said, stretching my arms up above my head, popping joints.

“What did you do now, hyung?” He laughed, padding my back.

“Yaaa,” I looked at him, my upper lip quivering a bit. “Where’s the wifey, huh? Locked her in the closet?” I mocked, Young Jae complaining a bit. “Well… I brought Daehyun,” I sighed, reaching the living room.

     “Who’s that?”

I spotted him on the couch beside Junhong, studying something in Junhong’s hands with big eyes. “My boyfriend,” I said, nodding in his direction.

“Watch out,” Young Jae said, grabbing unto my shoulder. I looked back at him in confusion, my jaw dropping by the sight of his pale face. “I’m gonna faint,” he explained, blinking several times. “Himchan-hyung… dating a guy?”

“Ya,” I slapped his shoulder, noticing the shy fella catching up with us, awkward standing behind us. “What’s wrong with that?” I asked Young Jae, only getting a shrug in response. I sighed, running a hand down my face. “Ya, I found something outside the door,” I said in a loud voice, pushing forward the kid, watching as he stumbled into the living room.

“Jong Up!” Junhong exclaimed, getting up from the couch. Daehyun kept sitting, pouting a little, and I couldn’t help but smile by the sight of it. Yaa, he’s so cute.

“Waaaah,” Young Jae pointed at my face, the smile fading by the sudden annoyance returning to me once again. “You really like him,” he gasped, slapping both his hands against his cheeks, his jaw hanging loose. “Woah, I can’t believe this! Himchan, the player falling for a–“

“Shut up,” I placed my hand on his face, pushing him away from me. “Brat,” I hissed, moving into the living room, heading for the empty seat beside my Daehyun. “Ya, Yong Guk, Young Jae is here, scold him,” I yelled at Yong Guk coming from the kitchen, drinks in his hands. He looked a little confused but then spotted Young Jae, walking towards him with a bright smile on his face. That fella. Smiling so much. Too much, I can’t – Aish…! Placing myself beside Daehyun, I carelessly placed my hand on his thigh, moving back in the cushions.

“Hey!” Daehyun gasped, slapping my hand away.

“What?” I asked, turning my head in his direction. “Something wrong?”

“Save it for later,” he muttered, a light pink coloring his cheeks.

My eyes widened, the sound of his words echoing in my head. “W-what?” What just happened? If I’m not mistaking… Was that Daehyun’s attempt of… talking… dirty? What? What!? “Excuse me?” I peeped, clearing my throat. For the second time, he just left me hanging there, throwing a cute, little smile in my direction, carrying on the blushing while carefully taking my hand.

“Here we are,” Yong Guk said, putting down the drinks on the table. “Beer for the men, soda for the kids, yeah?” He laughed, without hesitation handing me one of the beers. “Himchan,” he said, not looking at me, just making sure I’d noticed his gesture.

“O-oh, thanks,” I muttered and doubtfully accepted the bottle, taking it from his hand.

“Junhong, Daehyun,” he continued, handing both of them a soda – they both smiled and thanked him in unison, Yong Guk chuckling. He glanced up at the shy fella, reaching out an empty palm. “I’m Yong Guk, nice to meet you,” he said at the boy, staring a little when the boy just bowed at him in response.

“Hello,” he said and I frowned, the way he looked at Yong Guk kinda pissing me off. Was he really glaring at him?

“Ya, what’s your problem?” I hissed, pointing at him with the beer in my hand. Daehyun slapped my shoulder, about to say something to me when Junhong cut him off, getting off the couch.

“It’s okay, Jong Up,” he exclaimed, walking around the table and towards the boy. “Come, come,” he smiled at him, pulling him back to the couch by the arm, gesturing Daehyun and I to scoot over.

“Yaaa,” I complained in a mutter, moving the both of us so Jong Up could fit in the other end of the couch. Yong Guk brought over two chairs for him and Young Jae, and they placed themselves in front of us, chattering a little in a loud laughter. “Yaaaa,” I continued, Daehyun noticing my discomfort but apparently chose to ignore it.

Eventually joining Young Jae and Yong Guk’s conversation after a little while, I actually had a good time, hanging out with both of them incredibly nice, considering how long it’d been since we last had gathered like this. It’d all changed after the wedding – Young Jae getting married (no ), me dating Daehyun, and Yong Guk… And Yong Guk seeing that boy, Junhong. Aaaish, what is going on between those two? Huh? What really? Huh!?

Seeing Junhong lean back on the couch, Jong Up and Daehyun talking about something without his interfering, I decided to take action. “Hey, Junhong,” I called, the blonde boy turning his head in my direction.

     “Hm?”

“You and Yong Guk…” I started off, clearing my throat. “You’re pretty close, huh?” I asked, trying to keep the devilish smirk off my lips.

Junhong nodded, having no problem with letting the smile spread across his face. “He’s my boyfriend,” he beamed, seeming awfully proud. I gulped and stared, nodding my head a little. B-boyfriend? Yong Guk is seeing Junhong l-like I’m seeing Daehyun? H-how did this happen? What is going on!? It doesn’t make sense! I’m going crazy, I’m–

“Hyung,” Daehyun said, leaning in closer to me. Apparently his conversation with Jong Up had ended, and his attention had finally turned to me once again. “I need your help,” he whispered, his fingers playing with mine.

“Something wrong?” I asked, watching as he shrugged, suddenly getting off the couch and pulling me up with him. “D-daehyun?” I stuttered, confused as he discreetly dragged me out of the room, eventually ending up by the door to the bathroom.

     “Hyung–“

“Oh,” I interrupted, letting go of his hand. “You can do that by yourself, can’t you?” I chuckled a little awkward, taking a step back.

He cleared his throat and then smiled, reaching out for me and grabbing unto my shirt, opening the door and pulling me inside. Closing and locking the door behind us, I stumbled across the dark room, asking him to turn on the lights. But he ignored me, his fingers suddenly caressing my arms, and I gasped.

     “D-d-daehyun, what are you doing?”

He hushed me, moving a little closer in the darkness but I resisted, in panic taking a step back, the back of my knees hitting something firm and harsh. “Come on,” he said, his breath hot against my skin. “Let me kiss you?”

“In Yong Guk’s bathroom?” I panicked, possibly asking the most stupid question ever.

“Why not?” He chuckled, somehow sounding a lot more… mature in the darkness. I guess his face not being visible to me doing most of the job.

“It would be… our first,” I mumbled, taking a deep breath. What. The hell. Was that?

“You sound like a girl, Himchannie,” he giggled but then exhaled, leaning his head against my shoulder. “Where would you like it happen then?” He asked, probably making up the question based on the fact that I’d complained about Yong Guk’s bathroom.

     “I-I don’t know, I–“

     “The bridge?”

“Yeah,” I admitted, facepalming myself in my head. He let out a heavy breath against me, settling a little as I wrapped my arms around him. You’re a jerk, I told myself, shutting my eyes in the darkness. Daehyun willingly asks if he can… k-kiss you, and you turn him down like some innocent, scared girl. What’s so different about Daehyun from all the girls you’ve picked up and slept with the same night? Sure, he’s a guy, but it’s something else, isn’t it? “I like you, Daehyun-ah.”

He moved in my embrace, getting a little closer. “My Himchannie...”

     “Are you hurt?”

He shook his head against me, and I felt the smile on his face as I placed my hand against his cheek, pulling his face up. “I’m okay, Channie.”

“I don’t want you to be just okay,” I told him, the tips of our noses touching. Holding his position, he kept quiet – but I could tell what he wanted, his body swaying a little back and forth in my arms, our lips so close yet so far apart.

I’d kissed many girls in a bathroom or well, a restroom, eventually letting them push me into one of the stalls, doing stuff with them I’d never dreamt of doing with Daehyun. The mere thought of it drenched me in sweat, my throat tightening in anxiety and panic.

     “Hyung.”

     “Y-yes?”

“I don’t want us to be perfect,” he whispered, so close that his lips were actually brushing mine – shivers sled down my spine, a huge pool of saliva gulped down my throat. Meanwhile my head spun, his words confusing yet making perfect sense to me. Our first kiss being on the bridge would’ve been perfect. Why I wanted it all to be perfect, I didn’t know. Maybe, it was because he was so perfect – I was afraid that anything less than perfect would be dishonoring him, making him look like a fool. Still, I couldn’t help but remain by his side, somehow convinced that that was the place I had to belong, even though I was anything than perfect.

“I’m sorry,” I muttered, leaning forward and let our lips touch, experiencing the sweetest kiss I’d ever felt and tasted – but who was I trying to kid anyway? It was Daehyun. The sweetest thing I’d ever looked at, met, spoken to, laughed with, held hands with… and kissed.
