Kyungsoo actually hated himself for forgiving Jong In – or Kai – that quickly. They had never resolved everything, there were always little quarrels that ended with a tight hug and some tears, but they both loathed the idea of worrying the group with their 'stupid' problems. Usually they argued during the evenings, before going to bed, and the thing Kyungsoo hated the most was that every morning he would wake up in Jong In's arms, and he loved every single morning. He hated himself for loving something like that. He shouldn't love mornings in that guy's arms. In general, he felt like it was better to avoid Jong In, but in the end they always started talking and then arguing and then sleeping together in the same bed.

Just sleeping, and sometimes Kyungsoo woke up in the middle of the night because Jong In was whimpering in his sleep, frowning and sweating, like he was having a nightmare, and every time Kyungsoo sighed and caressed his face. There were times when the nightmares were too strong and so the older man had started singing softly. Jong In always calmed down, and he kept sleeping with a smile on his plump lips, while Kyungsoo watched him with tears in his eyes. How can he have the soul of the man who destroyed everything on the world? Jong In looked too innocent, and he was right when he had said that he was different: he wanted a real union between humans and aliens, he didn't want to make Kai's same mistakes. But for Kyungsoo it was hard to forget everything that had happened. Kai had torn his family in little pieces, he had destroyed innocent lives and then he had disappeared, leaving after him only ruins, sadness, broken hopes and promises.

Kyungsoo always woke up before of Jong In. He woke up really early in the morning, and for a long hour he always thought of his friends back in his town, the family he had to leave when Jong In arrived and took him away from trouble. Or so he had thought of doing, since he had found himself in a cage. After thinking of what he had left behind him, Kyungsoo always got up, covered Jong In's body with the blanked and wore his clothes. Then, Jong In would wake up. Days felt short, especially for the older man, who kept working hard to help everyone. Jongdae and Minseok kept bringing experiments from the laboratories, and so many empty houses were used for them; but soon it wasn't enough, and so people started building, the town got bigger and bigger, and soon it started getting rich, there were new jobs, new shops, and Kyungsoo knew that maybe, one day, he could start his own business again.

In that moment, he was playing with the orphan kids from the laboratories. They were cheerful, and the most of them didn't have to experience anything on their little bodies, but the ones who did were quiet and scared of every little noise or gesture. He was having fun, when he saw Jong In playing quietly with Minki. The child was smiling widely, giggling over something the older man had said, and in that moment Jong In turned around and saw him. Kyungsoo immediately looked away with a stern gaze; he announced he was feeling tired and walked away, towards a small greenhouse that they had  built during that month. He sat in the centre, on a bench made of wood, and waited. After some minutes, Jong In arrived and sat next to him. Usually, it was in that moment that they started arguing over something. Kyungsoo would feel slightly offended over something the younger had said and that started their stupid fight.

That day was different. Jong In just sat and took his hand, and after a while Kyungsoo gave up: he sighed and rested his head on the other's shoulder. They stayed like that for a long time, until the younger man decided it was better to break that silence. "Why?" He murmured without looking at Kyungsoo, who closed his eyes. He waited, as the question was too vague for him to answer. Jong In's grip on his hand tightened and he spoke more clearly, with a frustrated tone. "Why do you say you hate me when you actually fall asleep in my arms? Why do you say you despise me when you help me calming down after a nightmare and when you tuck me in?" Kyungsoo gulped; he didn't expect Jong In to be awake while he did those things, and he hoped to never explain his actions, mainly because he didn't know why he did those things. Maybe he just had a big heart, open for everyone.

Kyungsoo slowly raised his head, but he didn't let go of Jong In's hand. He stared at the ground, feeling too embarrassed to look at the other man. "I can't forget." He whispered, frowning. "I can't forget about the pain I had to get through, I can't forget the hurt looks of my parents when they told me they didn't have enough money for my education. But the thing I can't really forget is that kiss! Why did you kiss me?!" Jong In froze and abruptly turned around to look at him. "Kiss? I have only dreamt of a kiss, what are you saying?" They kept quiet for a moment, then Kyungsoo realized something. "That night…! We were still in the laboratories, I got up and saw a blue light. There was a figure, it had your face and it kissed me… Maybe it was you, I mean –" The younger man stood up, a scowl on his face.

"I can't believe you acted like that just because of a kiss!" He snarled, raising his voice. Kyungsoo was taken aback by his reaction, but he tried to answer anyway. "I didn't know what it meant to you!" Jong In shook his head in disbelief. "It's a kiss, what do you think it means?!" The other man stood up as well, not liking where their argument was going. "I don't know, that you want to ?" Jong In scoffed and ruffled his hair. "Oh God, what the hell have you got in your head, how I could I think of that when I was closed in a cell with my body aching and when my mind was a mess?" Kyungsoo closed his mouth and he immediately shifted his gaze to the ground. He felt himself blushing heavily, as he slowly realized how idiotic he had been acting and how they stubbornly kept arguing and how they had never admitted their faults.

He covered his face and he sighed, but he didn't flinch away when Jong In hesitantly grabbed his wrist. He was brought in a tight hug, and once again, for the umpteenth time, Kyungsoo returned the embrace without fighting back. "I—Sorry, I'm sorry." He muttered as he closed his eyes. It was the first time he decided to apologize, and he knew he had to apologize another thousand times to make up to Jong In. "It doesn't matter." The taller man mumbled in response, making Kyungsoo snort slightly. "Of course it does, because…" He trailed, realizing he didn't know what to say; but Jong In just smiled and nuzzled his nose against the other's hair, inhaling the sweet scent. "It doesn't matter." He repeated quietly. "I know you had suffered a lot because of me. I have divided you from your family, you haven't talked to your relatives for who knows how long and you have been caged and almost beaten…" Kyungsoo whimpered and started shaking. It hurt, it hurt a lot and he felt like he couldn't trust anyone.

"Listen." Jong In whispered in his ear as he started to caress his trembling back. "Unfortunately, you have to focus on the present. The Government is getting weaker, and we're powerful. We can win, Kyungsoo. We can free this world. You and me…" He finished, almost purring those words. Kyungsoo whimpered, Jong In's tone was implying something more than just saving the world from destruction, and he couldn't help but feel honored. Jong In was handsome, and Kyungsoo had felt attraction for him from the first moment their eyes had met, but he had never tried to imply anything. After all, he had fallen for him only for his looks; usually they were awkward around each other, and the arguments didn't help a lot. "B-but we need people to fight…" He weakly reasoned. Jong In smiled and kissed his cheek. "There's a huge group of those aliens who is coming here to help us. Luhan called them with his powers… We will win thanks to their abilities." The older man looked up, surprised, but before he started talking, Jong In changed topic. "How did you know it was me?"

Kyungsoo frowned but answered anyway. "When you were in the van, your body was covered by that blue light and then you disappeared… While I was coming back here to the village I remembered a tale my mother used to tell me when I was a child." He paused for a second and then he continued to explain. "My mother told me a tale about Kai; she told me that one of his powers was teleportation and that his body was covered of a blue light every time he used his abilities…" Jong In kept quiet and continued caressing his back. "She was right, in a way." He whispered after some minutes. "I saw it in my dreams. Every night, I see what Kai had done, said and seen." Kyungsoo widened his eyes, pity in his eyes. He now understood the meaning behind the nightmares, but he couldn't help but shiver at the thought that there were some affinities with Kai: both were powerful and they both wanted to gain even more strength. And both wanted to save their people.

Why it was so hard to let go of him?

"The troops will arrive in two weeks." Jong In announced to everyone, many days after their argument. Kyungsoo tensed, suddenly feeling scared of the war. "Our first attack will be at the laboratories where we were imprisoned. There aren't many laboratories in the world, only five of them, and the one where Wu Fan was kept was already destroyed by Luhan." Everybody nodded, with smile on their faces. It was easy. Luhan did everything alone, they were invincible. "We aren't many, but an army can do nothing to us if we stay together and if we have a good strategy." Jong In continued. Kyungsoo frowned and shook his head, making everyone stare in confusion. "It sounds too easy." He explained. "We can't free just one laboratory per week. The Government's army had already found us more than one time, they might come here and take people hostage, making everything stop for negotiation."

Chanyeol scrunched his face, thinking of an alternative. "We can try and free all the laboratories at the same time, Jong In can teleport himself inside there, open the door and let everyone run away…" Jong In stayed quiet for a long minute, thinking of the possibilities. "We can try." He repeated slowly. Kyungsoo saw Yixing lowering his head; he remembered seeing him crying deeply in Suho's arms a few days before. The scientist had explained to Kyungsoo what happened, lowering his voice. "Wu Fan and Tao mated." He had whispered, with a small shrug. "I was expecting that… Yixing, too, but he still hoped Wu Fan changed his mind, even if it wasn't possible. He's going to be alright, I think he just needed to see how much they love each other with his own eyes."

Kyungsoo sighed, thinking of that memory. He wasn't listening to those strategies anymore; he was slowly realizing how much difficult it was being in the middle of a war. He could lose everything just in a mere second. Were they really ready to fight for freedom? Kyungsoo could do nothing but watch. People were going to die, and he was powerless. He didn't even see that he was now alone with Jong In, but he relaxed when the young man put a hand on his back and caressed it, making Kyungsoo sigh. "Don't worry." He whispered with a small smile on his lips. "We're not going to die. It's them who will pay with their blood." Kyungsoo closed his eyes and nodded weakly. Jong In's words were cruel, but he found comfort in his tone. "We're not going to die. You have me." Kyungsoo smiled and he felt himself blushing, not really caring to answer back. He felt no need to.
