Foreword
It was raining. The frigid wind knocked into her body. Cold. She heaved a sharp breath as she staggered towards the edge of the building. The sound of rain pierced through her ears and she was reminded of him. She clasped her chest. It hurt.
Her tears brim her eyes until they were released, flowing down her pale cheeks and blending with the cold raindrops. One by one, it flowed until she started to cry uncontrollably. She covered to prevent sobs from escaping but it was no use. She was wailing, her agonized voice drowning in the sound of rain.
He was her everything. He was her life. But it tore her apart to know that this man whom she loved with everything she had; this man who she came to when she was lost; this man who she had shared her laughter with, had never once loved her. He had slashed her heart with his merciless words and ripped her apart. Her heart was bleeding relentlessly with this inexplicable pain.
She looked back and hoped ceaselessly that he would walk through that door and tell her that everything was a mistake; that everything was a stupid joke and he had always loved her. But the rooftop was empty and the door remained closed.
She hung her head and watched the street below. She breathed in sharply as she looked onto the cold, hard concrete ground. That was where she would fall and everything would end. Yes, it would end and she would not be hurt anymore. She tried to calm her racing heart. Her weight was balanced precariously on the edge of the building. Heaving what she thought was her last breath, she stepped forward into nothingness. But she was pulled back by strong arms and fell into a stranger’s embrace.
Everything did not end then: it had only begun.
