Chap 8
Broken and Mended
Throughout the whole drive, Amber was quiet. Her mind couldn’t stop thinking of ways to protect Nicole from the erted creep. Even though she knew Nicole was very much capable of protecting herself.
“Am, thanks for accompanying me today. I enjoyed myself.” Nicole turned to Amber smiling.
“No problem, Nic. You are my partner and that’s what I am for.” Amber smiled back as she helped Nicole undo her seat belt.
Amber looked up and realized that their faces were just inches apart. Nicole noticed it as well and stared back.

It felt as though time stopped at this moment. The world surrounding them slowly faded into the background. Amber’s eyes only have Nicole and vice versa.
Amber felt an unknown force pushing her face slowly closer to Nicole’s. Her sight never left the inviting lips. Their lips were almost touching any seconds now. Amber could feel the heat from Nicole’s face. Her heart from pounding fast and crazy. She closed her eyes, waiting for the moment to happen.
RINGGG!! The sudden intrusion of the unknown noise broke the spell. Amber quickly bounced back to her seat while blushing furiously. Her heart was still pounding like crazy.
Nicole was blushing furiously too except that she was greatly disappointed and angry with that noise. The noise was actually from her mobile phone. Someone had sent her a text message.
Nicole turned to Amber after stuffing her mobile back annoyingly, hoping that she would continue. However, Amber was staring at her own feet, apparently embarrass about just now. A wave of disappointment swept past Nicole. “Night Amber. See you tomorrow.” Nicole stepped out of the vehicle and walked towards her apartment lobby without waiting for Amber’s reply.
Amber just stoned at her seat. She was surprised by her actions earlier. “I almost kissed Nicole.” She brought her fingers to her lips with a dreamy expression.
By now, a series of emotions were sweeping inside Amber like a tornado. Her heart was still pounding. With her fingers still on her lips, she felt her muscles curved upwards. She was smiling. “Follow your heart Amber. Listen to what your heart tells you. Go get her!” said sub-Amber as she pumped her fist into the air.
She finally understood what her heart has been telling her all along. All the stolen glances, warm tingling feelings, missing her when she’s not around, etc were symptoms of her slowly falling in love with Nicole. Or so she thought.
We can’t blamed Amber for being slow cause this was the first time she ever fell in love and all the strict secret service trainings don’t teach matters of the heart.
----The next day, at Inton---
“Tae! Help me open this, will you?” A tall girl was stuffing a can of tuna in front of a short girls’ face.
“Aish Sooyoung…. Don’t bother me with such trivial things will you? I’m busy checking out the latest shotgun here. Go get some tools from B6. A grenade can do the trick.” Laughed Taeyeon evily and walked away with the shotgun, leaving Sooyoung dumbfounded.
“YAH!!! I can’t believe you are my partner, Kim Taeyeon!! Such TRIVIAL matters means life and death to me! This tuna here is my life… Damn.. why do I have to pick a faulty can…” Sooyoung cried desperately while holding the can of tuna and staring at it, hoping her words would somehow touched the can and it would open by itself miraculously.
When Sooyoung spotted Amber, she immediately sprinted over in record breaking time. “Amber!!! I need you! Please help me open this?” Sooyoung held the can up high.
“Sure.” Pop! “Here you go, Soo.” Sooyoung stared at Amber in admiration then back to the tuna, then to Amber then to tuna. “You are one hell of a can-opener, Amber! Now I don’t have to use the grenade. Hee~” Exclaimed Sooyoung with excitement.
“Huh? What grenade are..” Before Amber could finish asking her question, Sooyoung was already skipping happily back to her cubicle while stuffing the tuna bits ferociously into .
Ignoring Sooyoung, Amber went to look for Taeyeon.
---Side note---
Out of the 25 secret service agents working in HQ, Amber was especially close with 5 of them – Nicole (who got a crush over Amber and extremely good in combat skills), Sooyoung (who is crazy over food and a deadly skillful sniper), Taeyeon (obsess with the weaponries and have butts – a dangerous ert in short), Jessica (is skillful in driving all sort of vehicles including aircrafts but scared of cucumbers) and Yuri (crazy over keeping fit, have a super flexible body which was incredibly useful in tight situations).

“Yo Taeyeon, any idea which weapon is suitable to bring into a club with a lot of people yet without attracting attention and……” Amber still felt uneasy about tomorrow’s night mission and decided to seek extra opinions from Taeyeon incase she left out something. Better be safe than sorry.
---- After 15 minutes of discussion----
“Thanks Tae. I owe you one. I’ll give you a treat after I’m done with tomorrow’s mission.”
Sooyoung who happened to stroll by heard the conversation.
“Yah Amber, I heard that. So you’re going to give me a treat too!” beamed Sooyoung.
“Ignore her Amber. You better hurry to B6.” With that, Amber hurried off to B6 to get the remaining tools she needed.
“Here Soo. Take this as a treat from Amber. Anyway it doesn’t make any differences for your bottomless stomach, as long as there’s something going from your mouth to there.” Taeyeon pointed at Sooyoung’s stomach then grabbed her leftover-half-eaten-bun lying on the table and stuff it into Sooyoung’s mouth.
The tall girl was speechless and stared at Taeyeon for 3 seconds before working and swallowed the bun.
“Yah Kim Taeyeon!! Don’t just stuff leftover food into my mouth like that! I’m not your rubbish bin!!” shouted Sooyoung angrily.
“Where did you buy the bun? It taste really good though? Is it from the bakery across our building?” Sooyoung couldn’t help but asked Taeyeon after she calmed down.
Tayeon couldn’t help but smirked at Sooyoung’s behavior.
“I knew you couldn’t resist delicious food be it leftover or not. Scored one for Kim Taeyeon!” Thought Taeyeon before nodding her head at Sooyoung’s question.
