AmbivalentThis felt familiar, Minji thought as she walked closer to her new neighbour's house across the street. For some reason, the atmosphere around felt like a flashback something very familiar to her. However, she decided to brush if off as she thought it might be the vibe students get whenever it was summer.
When she reached the neighbour's house doorsteps, she paused for a moment taking a look around the house's lawn. It didn't look much different from hers, except less flowers? Well, her mother loved planting and decorating the lawn with flowers as she said it gives you the home-like feels. Then, she smelled something awfully nice, her mother's cooking.
Minji looked down at the tray of fresh baked cookies she's holding in her hands. Damn Mum, why can't you bake some for me instead? she questioned as she held back the temptation to eat all the cookies and just run back home like nothing happened.
Sighing to herself, she knew she had to do the right thing. She raised her hand and pressed the doorbell next to the front door. Minji shook her right leg as an act of habit as she waited for her neighbour to come and get the door. She looked around for the second time, thinking what she was going to say when the door opens.
"Oh, hello." A woman in her early forties greeted as soon as the door opened. Minji looked away from the lawn and to the woman in front of her, but something felt strange. She looks familiar, Minji thought at first but decided to keep it to herself. She flashed a bright smile towards the woman before clearing herself up.
"Hi, yes I'm Minji. My mother baked this for you and oh we live across the street." Minji explained as she pointed to her house right across the street. "Oh how sweet, thank you so much." The woman thanked as she took the cookies from her hands. "I am Mrs. Im by the way, my husband and my daughter are inside and my son should be back by now." she added.
Minji nodded understandingly, but she still couldn't brush away the tingling feeling saying that she knew this woman. "Do you need an extra hand?" she offered as the woman in front of her looked a bit unorganised. "Will you?" Mrs. Im asked, and the younger girl nodded. The woman thanked her and invited her inside the house.
She could see how much of a mess the house was, like hers a few years ago. Well, her mother did say that their things just arrived today. M
