Three
Hold My HandThe day had ended and it was time for him to drive off to where she was. He knew he was late and probably wouldn’t be able to catch her at work, but at least he’d have the rest of the day tomorrow. Whether she liked it or not, Yonghwa was pushing himself into her life once more.
Seohyun had never felt this tired in her life. Sure, she didn’t mind the physically demanding work she had right now as she was used to having part-time jobs ever since she could. She was a hardworking girl, but love had changed her. Now here she was, miserable and pregnant with a child that didn’t have a father! She was heartbroken, months after he’d thrown her out of his apartment. He’d called her a and she indeed was nothing but a mistress right?
She had given up her perfectly paying job to attend to his needs. She thought love was enough, even though his family and friends couldn’t find it in themselves to accept her. They all thought she was just a plaything, a social climber who only wanted his money. She’d proven them right didn’t she?
Here she was, with only her pride and strong will keeping her together. There were so many times when she was tempted to just end all this suffering, to escape the pain, but discovering the life growing inside of her gave her hope. She’d live for the baby. She was working so hard to scrape off every penny for the time she’d give birth. She lived in a very cheap apartment, wore clothes that the previous her wouldn’t have ever thought of wearing, and ate the leftovers at the diner so she’d save on gas and groceries. Looking around her tiny apartment, Seohyun felt like crying.
Why was she doing this to herself? She could’ve just cashed the check he’d thrown at her face when he ordered her to leave him for good. She couldn’t stop the tears that fell when she had vowed never to cry over him again. Yonghwa didn’t deserve her tears, love wasn’t supposed to hurt this much. If he’d even loved her, he would have believed her and protected her but instead he threw away all they had built together. He looked past her and never looked back. All she had now was her baby, and she’d be damned if he lay claim to it as well. He’d never know of this child and she’d do everything to protect it.
Yonghwa had arrived close at the town close to midnight. The innkeeper thankfully was still awake when he came by. The old woman was kind enough to reheat the leftover soup she had, fussing over him when he replied that he still hasn’t eaten dinner.
“Aigoo, youngsters these days don’t realize the importance of eating,” she mumbled as she laid the bowl in front of him. Yonghwa thanked her and started to eat, trying to appear like he was listening to what she said but was actually thinking of how he’ll be able to talk to Seohyun tomorrow. Suddenly being here in the same place as her made his heart beat like crazy. Stop being absurd, you need to know if it’s yours or Jungshin’s so just come by that diner and meet with her.
“Good thing that kind lady had come by earlier to give me the leftovers at the diner she worked in. She’s such a pretty lady, that girl. But I could see a deep sadness in her
