Forty One
Free My Heart“Where are we going?” Aeri asked as they entered the busy subway.
There weren’t any seats available so Aeri and Sian were left standing.
Sian grabbed the bar and stood behind Aeri, protecting her from other passengers.
“It’s a secret.” Sian whispered into her ear.
“Are we almost there yet?” She turned her her to face him.
“Nope.”
“How about now?”
“Nope.”
“Now?”
“It’s only been two stations since you last asked.”
“I know. But I thought it’d be fun to annoy you. It just seems right.” Aeri teased.
“You know you used to have the biggest crush on me before your accident.”
“Did I?” Aeri played along.
“Yup. I guess you fell for my charms.” He winked
“What charms? Where?” Aeri teased pretending to search for it.
“You know you like me.”
“Nice try. I’m pretty sure I had a boyfriend though.” Aeri laughed.
“Yea. Me. And let’s get off here, girlfriend.” Sian threw his arm around her shoulders.
Along with half the other people on the subway, Aeri and Sian got off and exited the station.
“Hongdae? Really? This was your idea of an adventure?”
“Yup. Let’s go!”
Again.
Sian took Aeri’s hand.
~
“I haven’t had this much fun in a long time.” Aeri sighed as they walked home.
“It’s because I wasn’t by your side.” Sian teased.
“Are you always this confident?”
“Who knows?” Sian shrugged.
“Well we’re here.” Sian stopped in front of an apartment.
“Where?”
“This is where you live, isn’t it?” He pointed to the apartment.
Aeri look around and didn’t recognize anything.
“No...?”
“You moved?” Sian scratched his head.
Aeri shrugged.
“No wonder whenever I rang the bell no one answered.” He laughed to himself.
“Or maybe I didn’t answer because I knew it was you.” Aeri teased.
"Haha funny." He rolled his eyes.
"Come on let's get you home." He threw his arm over her shoulder.
“I think I’ve been here before.” She pointed towards payphone booth.
“Well you did use to live in this area.” He reminded her.
“Right…” She said but for some reason that particular phonebooth stood out to her.
“Did I used to use payphones a lot?” She thought.
~
“Oh we live in the same apartments.” Sian realized once they arrived at Aeri’s.
“Except I live over there.” He pointed to the right. “It’s only about a minute walk.”
“5 minutes.” Aeri corrected him.
“2 minutes.” He argued.
“Fine. 4 minutes.”
“No, 3 minutes.”
“Three and a half.” Aeri ended the argument.
“Let’s walk to school together tomorrow morning. I’ll meet you here at 7:30?”
“7:30?!? That’s early…”
“We can grab breakfast together. Like we used to.” He smiled.
“Sounds good. See you tomorrow!” Aeri waved before walking inside her building.
“Wait a minute please!” Someone yelled just as Aeri stepped inside the elevator.
“Oh oppa! You just got home too?” Aeri ask L as she pressed button to the eighth floor.
