Lacey's slumbering body was stiff in fear, her eyes tightly closed shut as violent images ran through her head. If anyone was in the room with her, they would obviously see that she was trapped in a nightmare.
She was standing in the study room, but it didn't look the same to her. There were fancier curtains draped over the windows, there was more furniture and the floors looked much more polished. There wasn't even any lightbulbs, just flickering candles.
A woman with wavy black hair rummaged through a scarily familiar study desk. As she harshly pulled drawers opened, she mumbled under her breath, "I know that bastard was sending her love notes... Damn , the both of them."
The woman was angry and it was very evident in her southern twang accented voice. Opening another drawer, Lacey saw gape open in shock. "So he smoked too, huh?"
If it was possible the woman became even more angrier than before. She snatched the object out of the drawer. Lacey gasped in horror, it was the lighter. The same lighter than Chanyeol was caged in.
Although Lacey barely knew the person, she knew that he reacted violently whenever picked up. She tried running towards her and calling out, "Don't!"
It was too late. The woman flicked the lid up and peered into it curiously. "What—"
It was like an explosion. Fire burst into life, wrapping itself in her face. The woman shrieked in pain and dropped the raging lighter. Lacey skidded into a halt and watched in horror as the flames at the woman's face.
She crumpled into a burnt and twitching heap on the floor. Lacey took one step back and the body was gone.
But the spirit of the woman was still there. It appeared right in front of her, much too close for comfort. Lacey's nose nearly touched with her scalded one. Their faces were so close that she could've smelled the burned flesh if this hadn't been a dream.
"You can see me." She stated, eyes wide and almost popping out.
"They know that you're sensitive. You're aware, very, very aware. And now they know it."
Lacey stumbled back. "T-They?"
The ghostly figure appeared at her face once again. "I'm not the only one who died in this house."
Lacey's eyes widened in realization. There would be more dead people coming for her, simply because she could see them. They would never be able to leave her alone now...
"Lacey!" A boy's voice hissed at her. She felt a harsh shove on her shoulder which startled her awake. She bolted upright and whipped her head to the direction of the voice.
"Luhan, what..." The two continued to stare at each other.
Luhan gave her a concerned look. He didn't like the look of trepidation that crossed over her pale face. "It's breakfast time. I knocked on your door for a while, but I got worried when you didn't answer so I unlocked it. You weren't waking up at all, you were completely paralyzed and your body was so stiff too..."
Much to her shock he suddenly pulled her in for a hug. "You scared me."
"Um, sorry." She mumbled awkwardly. Since when did Luhan like hugs?
After what felt like forever, Luhan finally pulled away. Pink faced and shy, he asked her, "So... Breakfast?"
"I think I'll skip for today." Images of watching the woman burn to death was etched into her memories. Just the thought of it made her lose her appetite.
Luhan frowned at her answer, but didn't say anything to change her mind. There was a long silence between them and none of them knew what to do.
Lacey laid herself back down on the bed and stared blankly at the ceiling whereas Luhan busied himself by stealing glances her way.
Lacey stared at the ceiling in silence. I think I'm going crazy. She thought. I'm talking to ghosts and it's not even normal in their standards. She wondered if their world—Exo—had any ghost whisperers. There had to be someone that could talk to ghosts, it couldn't be that abnormal.
Shut up, Lace. Get your together, you are normal. You are perfectly normal.
But a little voice in the back of her head reminded her that she was the only person that could free certain prisoners. Certain prisoners that were no where near normal. Certain prisoners that weren't even from her world.
And they're calling me abnormal, mentally scoffing she recalled what Jongdae said about her. I am perfectly normal.
As Lacey was left alone with her thoughts, Luhan contemplated on what to do next. He had woken her up, he had hugged her, and now she doesn't want to
