Lay and Tao stopped eating. They both snapped their heads up at Lacey's direction. Said girl was still staring at the floor in confusion, her features twisted up to look like she was in concentration. They wondered why she said Luhan's name and why she was looking at the floor as she did so.
"Something wrong, Lacey?" Lay asked.
Slowly, Lacey lifted her head, her features still marred by worry and confusion. Glancing back at the floor, she pointed at it, "I think Luhan's in there."
Now it was Tao's turn to be confused, "In where?"
"In there." She said, still pointing at the floor.
Tao walked over to her side while Lay crouched down.
"What are you talking about, Lacey? There's nothing on the floor—"
Lacey cut Lay off, "Look," she lowered herself to the floor and motioned to the tiny golden handle. The handle was definitely small. The tiny gap between the handle and the floor was as small as two of Lacey's fingers.
Tao crouched beside her, "Is there something under here…?" He murmured.
She slowly nodded her head, "There's a room underneath the kitchen."
Lay looked at her with furrowed brows, "How do you know?"
Her reply was quick, but truthful, "I don't know." And with that, she stood back up and pushed the table, "Lay, pull the table out of the way. Together the three of them moved the wooden table out of the way. Lacey lowered herself again and wedged two fingers in the handle. Pulling the secret door open, she gasped, "Oh !"
Quickly, the three of them plugged their noses as a putrid scent wafted in the air. Lacey really wanted to slam the door back down, but for some peculiar reason she knew that Luhan was down here. So she fully opened the secret passage and peered down the gruesomely stained staircase. There wasn't much blood, just little droplets, but there was something else that she couldn't identify.
"Is that vomit?" Lay whispered in horror as he stared down at the suspicious liquids.
Lacey's face contorted to one of repugnance. It wasn't just the vomit that she could smell, she could smell the blood and some other old fleshy scent. Beside her, Tao scowled and pulled her away from the passage.
"Close it, there's no way we're going in there." He told her, voice sounding funny since his nose was plugged.
She shook his head, "Luhan is in there."
"Luhan!" Lay called out into the hidden room. "Luhan, are you down there?"
There was no reply. All they could see was the stairway and nothing else. Lacey stood up, followed by Tao and Lay.
"Lacey," Lay said in a warning tone. "You shouldn't go down there."
Again, Lacey shook his concerns off. "You don't have to go with me. Just stay up here, alright? Watch the door for me." As Lacey descended down the stairs, Lay and Tao gave each other panicked looks.
"Stay up here," Lay said to Tao. "I'm going down there…" he said nervously. Bracing himself, he plugged his nose extra tight and started walking down the stairs. He didn't dare touch the walls, it was blackened by layers and layers of dried blood and dirt.
It was so dark down there, the only light was the light from the kitchen, but even that wasn't enough to help him.
"Lacey, where are you?" He peered throughout the darkness when he no longer felt another step.
"I'm searching the walls for a light switch." He heard her calm reply. "Just hold on..."
After patiently waiting for a few seconds, the lights . One lightbulb dangled from the ceiling, it's light strong enough to illuminate the entire basement. Lay let out a loud audible gasp, stumbling back
