When Lacey woke up the next day, she was greeted by the blinding lights of the sun. None of her windows had any curtains so sunlight could easily sneak into her room whenever it pleased. For breakfast, Lacey had to eat a slice of leftover pizza from the last night. Now there were only two slices left and she would leave that for lunch. As for dinner? Looks like she needed to order pizza again.
After her nutritious breakfast, she took a shower and contemplated on whether or not it was a good idea to text either of her parents. The newly weds were at the start of their honeymoon and she didn't want to interrupt.
But Lacey really needed to know where they kept the cleaning supplies. Also, she was in desperate need of a mask to shield and nose from the invading dust surrounding the whole house. If she were to text them via viber, they would automatically know that she was using her cellular data.
Deciding that she didn't want to face their wrath (mainly her mother's), she pocketed her phone in the pocked of her pajamas and started searching for the cleaning supplies by herself.
Tomorrow, the movers would be here and Lacey really didn't want them to see how old and dusty their house was, so she needed to clean. Right now. Another thing, she would be in charge of the furniture's placement. Already she was picturing how the interior of her house would look with more modern furniture.
But some of these are kinda nice… she mentally commented as she passed by an antique grandfather clock. As she passed by it, she heard the chiming of the weights clanging together, the pendulum lyre moving rythmically, and the pendulum bob thump against the side.
Freezing in her spot, Lacey backtracked and peered curiously into the glass. It was still chiming, but barely. Lacey had never owned a grandfather clock so she wasn't sure if it was supposed to do that, but she simply shrugged it off and continued walking.
She was just a few feet away, unable to see the pendulum bob move once again, this time more weakly. It vibrated as if it was strained, it was getting closer to the glass, but it shook erratically. Then, it stopped and fell back to its original position.
Lacey didn't see a thing.
Since she had already seen all of the master bedroom, she decided on the room close to it. It was another bedroom, the antique bed wrapped protectively, the windows allowing the sunlight to seep in, it was basically one of the plainer rooms.
Unsatisfied, she exited the room and went to another one.
One by one she searched the third floor. In total, there were four bedrooms and two bathrooms on the third floor.
And one locked room.
What? Again, she rattled the doorknob. Locked. This room was locked, but why? The creepy vibes were coming back to Lacey again. This house just kept getting more weirder as the days go. First a mysterious note that appeared out of no where and now a locked room?
I'll find the key to that later, dismissing the peculiar room, she walked down the stairs and reached the second floor.
There were more interesting rooms on the second floor. The first room she entered seemed to be an office workspace. There was a writing desk placed in the middle of the room. Although its design was rather old, the desk looked as good as new when Lacey approached it. She tried opening one of the drawers. Locked. So she tried another one. It was locked too.
She tried opening all the drawers only to find them all locked. But before she could feel disappointed, she looked at the opening in front of the desk. Inside the tiny shelf space was a necklace.
But it wasn't just any necklace. The necklace was adorned with pearls. And they looked real too. It was a simple three stand pearl necklace, but Lacey had a feeling that it was expensive. Unable to tear her eyes away from the treasure, she reached out towards it.
Why is it so warm? She thought as she held the necklace in her hand. No one had been living in this house for years, meaning the necklace was stuck untouched for the same time too.
But it wasn't cold. The pearls were radiating with warmth and Lacey didn't know why. Instead of being suspicious, Lacey simply pocketed the necklace and continued on her search for cleaning supplies.
The office held nothing to aid her so she left and entered the room across from it.
"Woah." She said, staring in awe at the sight. This room was bigger than the master bedroom, in fact, it was probably the largest room in the whole house. Towering bookshelves that reached the ceiling surrounded the room. Right across from Lacey was a grand window with another antique couch under it. The couch was wrapped up so Lacey took the pleasure of removing it.
The vintage couch was in mint condition through the heavy protection of the plastic cover. Lacey pressed a hand on the seat and added pressure. The light blue fabric was soft underneath her touch.
Looking back at all the shelves, she realized that it wasn't completely empty. There were still some books left on them, but there were very few left. Sinc
