The First Day

YOU BET!!!

It has been three months since Ella and Angela shook their hands and agreed on the terms and conditions of their bet. Now, Ella has to be ready to face all the challenges in front of her.

------------------------------------------------------------

Ella is standing in front of a big building; it was the administration office for the university. On the top of the building there was a HUGE sign of the name of the university. Farmosa University is one of the best in the country.

Ella just stands there and waits. She still cannot believe herself. All the way from Shanghai, away from the comfort of her dorm that she calls as her second home, away from her two best friends that she considers her sisters, away from the people and the places that she knew.

Now, she is about to face new people, new places; alone, without Selina or Hebe protecting her.

She still cannot believe that she is going through with the bet. She kept looking at the building in front of her, more specifically looking at the sign on the building. Not at the sign that says 'Farmosa University', but she looks at the words under it. She keeps her eyes open and stares at the words. She stares at it for so long that her eyes started to hurt because they are getting dry. The word 'For Boys Only' keeps appearing on her head for the last three months and now she can read it clearly in front of her.

Suddenly she slaps herself. "Get a hold of yourself, Ella Chen! What's done is done!" she said to herself.

She takes a deep breath and then exhales. After that, she holds her head up high and face the challenge up front.

Just after taking a few steps to the administration building, someone bumps her and cause her to fall and drop everything she was carrying.

"Ouch! Hey! Watch where you're going" Ella said to the guy while still on the floor. She lifts her head and saw the guy who crashed into her. She does not know who he is but his face seems familiar to her. The guy only looked at her. He did not say anything or do anything. Not even a simple 'sorry' and just left.

"How rude!" Ella mumbled to herself.

Ella quickly gathers her stuff she was carrying, her books, bags, and her administration papers. Just as she finished gathering up all her things, she heard footsteps from inside the building. She stands up and looks at the direction where the footsteps are coming from.

She saw a guy running towards her and because she was not quick enough the guy crashed her and all of her things, including herself fell to the floor. Again.

She already thought that this guy is the same as the one before him that bumped her. So she does not bother to look and quickly gathers her things.

Suddenly she saw a hand in front of her face, helping her collect her things. Ella holds her head up and looks at him.

"Thank you.” she said.

"No problem. I was my fault anyway. Sorry to bump into you like that. I was catching up to my friend." the guy replied. He is very warm-hearted, Ella could tell.

"You mean that guy who bumped me before?" Ella asked.

He answered with a simple nod. "Here you go.", he said with a smile on his face while handing over Ella's things that he picked up.

"Thank you." Ella said again. "You know you should hurry catch up to your friend." she added.

"Nah, it's not a big deal anyway. I don't really need to catch up to him." he replied. Ella does not say anything back to him. Then the guy stares at her from head to toe and smiles at her. "I never saw you in the university. Are you new?" asked the guy.

"Yeah, I just transferred here. I'm El-" Ella stopped for a moment, thinking of what all the guys should call her. She cannot just say that her name is Ella. She is basically known as a guy now and in what world does a guy's name is Ella?

"Ello Chen. Yeah, I'm Ello Chen, nice to meet you." Ella continued. She is nervous, hoping that no one notices that her name was weird, even if it was.

"You mean like 'hello' but without the 'h'?", the guy asked trying to make sure.

"Yeah, exactly that." Ella nodded quickly to confirm, hoping that it was a believable name for a guy.

"Well then, nice to meet you Ello Chen. I'm Jiro Wang. You can call me Jiro." said Jiro while offering his hands for a hand shake.

Ella kindly replies the handshake and gives her first friend in the new school a big warm smile.

"You can just call me El, if you like, or E, whatever easier for you." Ella added.

"Elle? Isn't that like a girls’ name?"

"Oh, really?! I never thought of that. Everyone called me that since kid. Maybe you spell it wrong. It's E-L, not E-L-L-E." Ella explained. She is very nervous now. Cold sweet starts to fall down her back.

"Well, that's true. But it's still pronounced the same." Jiro said.

Ella was going to say something to him again to convince him that it is a guy's name. But before something come out of Jiro already cut her off.

"Ah, forget it. I just call you E. That's okay right?"

"Oh, definitely." Inside her heart Ella reliefs a big sigh, glad that he did not suspect her.

"So are you going to the administration building? I can accompany you if you want."

"That would be great." Ella said with a warm smile.

And there they go. Ella was actually very nervous at first, but after meeting Jiro she was relieved. Because that means that she can pull off being a guy.

"It's so weird for the school to accept a new student this time of year." Jiro said breaking the silence.

"Well, that's because I just got the Taekwondo scholarship recently." She said with a smile.

She is proud of herself. Not just for coming to Taiwan and study at a boys school but also because she is able to study in one of the best university in Taiwan with scholarship. She is grateful now that her brother kept dragging her to all of those Taekwondo lessons she had the past years, even though back then she hated it.

"You're on scholarship? Me too; though I'm in sport scholarship."

"Sport? You mean all of it?" Ella is very surprised when she heard this.

Not a lot of people able to get that kind of scholarship. Jiro must be very athletic to be able to get one.

"Well, I don't like to brag... But yeah." Even though he said like that, Ella did not believe him. His expression is very readable. She can see that he is very proud of himself.

"So your Taekwondo, what grade are you?" Jiro asked.

"Oh, I already had my black belt. So I actually qualified as an instructor or an athlete." Ella said.

She was very proud of this accomplishment because not many girls able to reach the same level as her in such a young age.

"Wow. You must be really good." Jiro praised. Ella just smiled at him.

In Farmosa University, Jiro is known for his many sport talent, taekwondo being one of them. He is even quite famous because of it, because not many guys in their school have the same capability as him. And now it seems that he has found his match.

"We should have a friendly match sometimes." Jiro challenged her.

Even though he convinced himself that he is the best in the school, but there still something inside his heart that determine to be number one. And if he can beat Ella then that number one spot will be forever his.

"Oh, okay then. But I need to settle down first." Ella added.

They are already finished with all of Ella's administration and is now going to the main building.

"What room are you in? Maybe we're in the same dorm." Jiro said.

"I'm in room 116, dorm 1."

"That means we're in the same dorm." Jiro said, smiling.

"Wait. 116?" He asked. Ella nodded. "So you're Chun's new roommate." Jiro added.

"Who? Who is Chun?"

"He's your roommate. He's name is Wu Chun. He's the one that bumped into you earlier." Jiro added.

"That guy? But he's rude! He didn't even say sorry."

"Never mind him. He's just like that. He's a loner, so getting a new roommate was a shock for him. He even came to the administration office to beg the teacher, so that you don't end up with him." Jiro said.

Ella was going to say something but Jiro added. "He's not rude; he's just in a hurry that time. He never late for class so was running to get to class on time this morning."

"But at least he could say sorry."

"Well in his defence, you're not paying attention to your surrounding either, mister." Jiro said.

Well that, Ella cannot deny so she did not ask any further.

"You seem to know him very well." Ella said.

"Of course; he is my best friend." Jiro said with a big smile on his face.

Ella cannot believe that such a nice person like Jiro could end up with a very rude best friend such as Chun. He even left his friend behind just to get to class on time. What kind of guy does that?

"So are we going to the dorm room or to class?" Jiro asked.

"To class. The administration lady already said that I supposed to be going to class with her to introduce me to the whole class, but then she told me to go with you instead." Ella explained.

"Oh right, I forgot. This way please." Jiro said. He even added the gesture of a butler for finishing touch.

------------------------------------------------------------

As they walk the path to the main building, Ella kept thinking of her new roommate, Wu Chun. The name is very familiar to her, but somehow her mind is blank about this particular person because she cannot recall where or when did she heard this name.

Speaking of roommates, she wonders what Selina and Hebe are doing without her. Will they get a new roommate? She knows that this question is absurd because she knows her best friends far too well and knows that even if the world ends, they will never accept anyone to sleep on her bed in their room. But still, it is normal to someone that just left her old room to ask this, right?

Just a second later, after thinking about Selina and Hebe, she remembers something.

"Wait. You said that the guy who bumped me this morning, my new roommate is Wu Chun?" she asked Jiro. Her eyebrows are high, trying to confirm something.

"Yeah, I already said it, didn't I? Why you ask?" Jiro asked her back.

Inside her head, Ella started talking to herself, remembering those times in her room with Hebe and Selina, particularly with Hebe. The time she cried, the time she was on fire, and the time she tried telling her that the bet was impossible.

'Could it be?' Ella asked to herself. 'No, there's too much of a coincidence. No. No. It's impossible. It's must be someone else.' she convince herself.

"Oh, nothing. Just want to make sure." Ella replied to Jiro, who was staring at her, curiosity in his eyes.

Jiro is a very curious guy. It is his nature, some might say. But when it comes to his friends, especially his best friends, he is extremely serious. And that is DEATHLY SERIOUS. Some even thought that he was gay because he seemed to always want to know what Chun was doing and what others are thinking about Chun. Like how girlfriend and boyfriend do to each other.

The truth is he was just being overly protective towards his friends, and Chun being his best friends, making him extra protective towards him.

Jiro stared at her for a couple of seconds and then looked to the road again. They were silence towards each other for the rest of the way. With Ella busy looking at her new schedule and Jiro keep her in the right path and make sure she does not trip herself. It was not long until they reach their classroom.

He knocked three times at the classroom door and then opened the door. The teacher was still teaching when Jiro walked in. When he saw Jiro, he just stopped and stared at him.

"Sorry, teacher. I was in the administration building earlier and Teacher Lu told me to accompany the new student." Jiro said. Ella looked at him when he explained this. The so called Teacher Lu did not tell him anything, but still, he did tell the teacher the truth that he was accompanying her. Well, half-truth at least.

The teacher instructed him to go to his seat using his hands. Jiro nodded and then left Ella in the door way. Walking to his seat, with is just next to his best friend Chun.

"Well, come in." said the teacher to Ella.

Ella nods and walks in. She stands beside the teacher, looking towards the entire class. All eyes are now upon her. She just stands there, quietly. Do not know what to do next. She swallows her saliva; suddenly she feels becoming very dry.

She never realized, well not until now at least, that being in a room with a bunch of guys staring at her, is very intimidating. Her imagination starts to run wild, thinking that the guys are a bunch of wild animals ready to make her their prey.

Man! She really misses Selina and Hebe. Even though, Selina is known for being the pretty girl of the group and Hebe being the baby in the group, they always able to protect themselves whenever the others are not around to protect them. Ella, on the other hand, being the tomboy and the so called 'bodyguard' have to protect them whenever she is around and at the same time being protected by her two best friends.

It is a weird concept actually, the weak protecting the strong. But that is how their relationship goes. Even though she looks tough and strong from the outside, especially with her black belt in Taekwondo; she is actually the most vulnerable in their group. She maybe does not look like it because she always tries to act strong in front of her best friends but when she is depressed, then she is depressed. And that means REALLY DEPRESSED, almost hospital worthy. And that is saying something.

"Well. Don't be shy. Introduce yourself." the teacher continued. Ella quickly snapped herself.

'Ella Chen! Get a hold of yourself! You have to be strong! You already convinced Selina and Hebe that you will be strong and you will be! You're a brave girl and none of these guys are able to do anything to you!' she tried to convince herself.

"Hello everyone! I'm Ello Chen, but you can call me Ello, or El, or just E. Nice to meet you all!" She shouted and then bowed to them. She is very nervous, sweats starts to drip down her back and from her head. Hoping that everyone believes that she is a guy just like them.

Everyone starts to whisper and looks at her. All kind of expressions are on each of their faces. Some or just plain happy, some do not react, some curious, some confuse, some thinking, and some, and this is from what Ella saw, is actually looking like they are thinking something evil that they might do to her.

"Elle? Isn't that a girl's name?" someone asked while raising his right hand. Ella looked at him. The guy is sitting right behind Jiro, and beside him is and empty seat. In front of the empty seat, there is Chun, who does not seem to care one bit about his new roommate.

The guy has a very young face. For a second there, Ella even thought that guy must have skipped a grade or something. He has, baby face as everyone may know. But Ella must say, being a girl in a school, surrounded by boys, is maybe not that bad, especially seeing that the guys in her class are actually not bad. That guy in particular is quite, or should she say, very cute.

Jiro is not so bad either. If she was not mistaken then according to Selina, Jiro can be classified as the 'HOT' type, because he has a warm personality. While his best friend, in the 'COOL' type.

Ella now starts to realize the benefits of moving to the new school. Well, it is a very small and insignificant benefit, but it still is a benefit. And with what she is going through, every benefit counts.

"It's not E-L-L-E, it's E-L. It's not a girl's name. It's my name, and I'm a dude." Ella tried to convince everyone.

The guy does not seem that he is pleased with Ella's answer, but before he could say another word, the teacher cut him off.

"Okay. That's enough. Just like what the great William Shakespeare himself said 'what’s in a name?’. Student Chen you can go to your seat. It's the one behind Student Wu." the teacher continued while pointing at the empty seat behind Chun.

Ella quickly nods and heads to her seat. In her heart she is very thankful for what the teacher has done. Maybe he did not know it, but he just save her life!

Just as she seats down, the guy besides her offered his hands.

"Hi! I'm Aaron Yan. Nice to meet you, Elle." he said with a playful smile.

Ella takes his hands and shakes it, doing it with a smile on her face. She has to admit, the guy is really cute, even cuter than the boys in her school. And that is a big compliment because the guys in her school have the faces of movie stars, or at least they’re going to be.

After they properly introduced themselves, they took their hands back and focus on the lesson. Although, Ella cannot really focus because all she could see is Chun's back. It is just as if the Great Wall of China was in front of her. She can hardly see anything!

Numerous times now, she had already tried to look above Chun's head, but her attempts failed. All she can see is just that black hair. Tired from trying, she just sits comfortably in her seat and stared at the back of Chun's head.

She starts to think hard about what she thought in the morning, staring at Chun's head, just focus on his head. She keeps thinking to herself. "Can that be true? Is this really 'him'?"

It seems that Chun realized that Ella was staring directly at him, because he starts to have goose bumps all over his body. But with his cold personality, he could not careless and did not bother to say anything to his new roommate.

------------------------------------------------------------

After class ended, Jiro immediately took Ella to her dorm room. It turned out that Jiro and Aaron are roommates. It is nice to have these two people as her new friends. At least, if anything goes wrong with Chun, and she is a hundred percent sure that there will be something wrong, she could just go ask Jiro and Aaron for help.

"Well, here it is, room 116." Jiro said while pointing at the door in front of them. "I'll be in my room if you need me. I'm in room 113."

After he said that he quickly left to his room, which is just down the hallway.

Ella opens the door and quickly reliefs a sigh. Then she closes it. The room is empty. It seems that Chun has not come back yet because his bag is nowhere to be found.

Actually, the sigh she just relieved when she opened the door was not for Chun that was not back yet. It was for the separate beds in the room.

She gave the room a long look, inspecting every inch of the room that she will be living in the next two years. It is nice. Maybe it is not as big as her old dorm room, but that is understandable because only she and Chun will be living here. In the right side of the room, there are Chun's bed, his desk, and his closet, along with all of his other stuffs. The exact things were in the left side with the same position, except they are all her stuff.

She is very glad that her new room has its own bathroom, this way this possibility of others knowing her true identity can be minimized. But she is even gladder seeing the separate bed, because she hates bunk bed. Really, really hates bunk bed.

This is very understandable actually, especially after all what she has to endure while sleeping in a bunk bed. She never knew why but it seems that her biggest bad luck occurs when she is sleeping on a bunk bed. Maybe this sound stupid, but it is true.

Whenever she sleeps on the top side of the bed she will always fall. And falling from a few feet above the ground hurts! When she sleeps on the bottom side, which is a different story. If she slept on the top bunk, she would hurt her back; then if she slept on the bottom bunk, she would hurt her head. This happens every time she wakes up. It maybe looks silly but it is true. Every time she wakes up she will accidentally hit her head. It is like a habit of hers. To simply put it, if she sleeps in a bunk bed then she will end up hurt in the morning.

This is why in her old dorm room, Selina and Hebe got the bunk bed. Hebe got the bottom bunk and Selina got the top. She can never understand how other people, including her two best friends, able to sleep peacefully in bunk bed without falling or hitting their heads.

Just as Ella about to unpack her luggage, she heard the door being opened. It was Chun. He just took a glimpse at her and walked to his bed across her and laid there.

Ella knows that he has a cold personality but he does not have to be that rude. She is her new roommate for goodness sake. At least a simple 'hi' will be enough. Was that too much to ask? But Ella cannot just treat him the same way he treated her.

"Hi, Classmate Wu. I guess we're roommate from now on. I'm Ello Chen, nice to meet you." Ella said.

She offered her hand for a shake but he did not respond. So she walks to her bed and just sits there, staring at him. For hours now the same question has been inside her head and now it is just driving her crazy.

"It's now or never." she thought. She took a deep breath and then opened .

"Hmmm... Classmate Wu. Are you really Wu Chun from the Taiwan National Basketball Team?" Ella asked him, hoping for once he can just answer her.

"I don't play basketball anymore.", Chun answered her after a few seconds of awkward silence.

"Really? Wow! My best friend is a huge fan of yours. And I mean HUGE!! She's your biggest fan. Can you give me your autograph so I can give it to her the next time I meet her?". Ella was thrilled but then as she searched for a pen and paper, she stopped.

"Wait. Don't play anymore? Why? You're so good at basketball. Why you stopped?" Ella continued. She stared at him, begging for an answer, but he just stared blankly at the ceiling.

Another second of awkward silence passed and Chun still has not given her the answer. After another second passed, Chun stands up from his bed and walks to the bathroom.

"I'm going to take a shower. If you don't have anything else to say, you should hurry up and finish unpacking." he said as he stands up.

"One more thing, I don't like to talk about basketball and I hope you respect that." just as he finished saying that, he enters the bathroom.

His tone was flat, but Ella can tell that there was sadness when he said that. Even though she was very disappointed but there is nothing she can do. She has to respect his decision.

The entire thing she can think of now is how disappointed Hebe will be when she finds out the truth. Hebe is his biggest fan and the big poster in their dorm room is just one prove. Ella remembers how Hebe likes to repeat Chun's quote. There is never a day that she missed to repeat at least a quote.

She kept thinking and thinking. Never once did she lie to her best friends, or keep secrets from them. But it seems that this time she has to. Because she does not want to see Hebe gets hurt, especially by her idol. Yes, she has to, to protect her. Even though maybe this is not the right thing to do, but this can buy her some time so that she can prepare herself to be Hebe's rock when she finds out that her idol has given up for whatever reason he has.

Chapter 28: I just wanna say how much i love ur fanfic. I usually only read Fahrenheit fanfics because theyre the people I know best. Hana Kimi was the drama that started me on all of this asian craziness, and it's hard to stop liking chunella after such a long time! I never shipped anyone like that before. and i still continue to read chunella fanfics and watch chunella vids, even tho ella's married.... i do congratulate her and wish her the best, but in my mind, i'll always support chunella, the perfect fantasy couple. please dont ever stop writing!

Wow, this is just WOW! It's seems that you're really knowledgeable when it comes to the instruments, choreography and the performance itself. I guessed you've been to play and musicals, right? This is a very good chapter.

Thank you and I'm super excited for the next chapter!

Now, about your note, i felt like i want to tear up too while reading it...i might not be a very huge CE fan like you but i like do like ChunElla. I find Ella really cute and i was surprised to know that she's getting married. Yet, she desrves to be happy with the man she loves, right? Anyhow, i'm truly thankful that you are not going on hiatus because i might hate you for that! Joke :D This story is just wonderful and i will be supporting you if you ever decide on writing another CE fic. You might not have a lot of subscribers but who cares, it's their loss--not yours. For now, I'll patiently wait for your update. Thanks for your hardwork.

Oh, just how i LOVE and HATE this story at the same time! LOVE, because this is beautifully-written in a way that you will surely be drawn to Ella/Ello and Chun as well. I also love how you (author) make this really romantic without being overly cheesy. And i like the humor :) The words that you choose are not so flowery but just perfect. But i HATE this story because i can't concentrate with my lessons, i even skipped one of my boring subject just to continue reading this (guys, don't be like me, kay?) and i can't even answer the calls of nature because my eyes were glued to the laptop screen! Sounds pathetic right? But that is how this story affected me ^_^
