Love You to Death

Min sat huddled in the corner of her bed. It was dark and musty in her room, but there was no way for her to get fresh air. The dusty windows were locked. Even if they weren't, they were still barred. There was no way they would ever let her leave her room alone. They always kept it under close watch in case she tried any funny business.

Min held her arm and inspected the bandage wrapped around her bicep. Its pristine white was blemished with dark red coming from the wound the bullet left. How she got into this whole mess, she would never know.

It started on a Friday night. Min's shift as a waitress at a small restaurant just ended. Min was from a very prosperous family. Her father died when she was young, but her mother remarried to a successful businessman. When Min turned eighteen, she decided to make a living for herself rather than use her step father's well earned money and moved to a quiet town away from Seoul. She was twenty three now.

Her friend Fei had dropped her off at work and Min planned on taking a taxi back home. Since it was already late at night, most of the nearby taxis refused to take her home forcing Min to go down a few blocks in search of a taxi. While standing at the cross walk, Min couldn't help but notice the finely dressed man across the street checking his watch. He was adorned in a suit and tie and in his left hand, he held a briefcase.

"What are businessmen doing in this part of town," Min wondered. There was nothing special about this part town. It was quaint and family friendly. Most of the businesses here were family owned. To Min, there was nothing here that seemed very investable.

As the sign changed from a red hand to a white pedestrian, Min shrugged off her thoughts and walked across the street. Out of the corner of her eye, she couldn't help but see another businessman walking behind her. Min's stomach dropped and she felt suspicious. A part of her mind told her to be careful. As she walked across the street, she purposely turned a corner and walked through a poor neighborhood. One that businessmen surely wouldn't find themselves in no matter what the circumstance was. To her horror, the two businessmen followed Min and were joined by two more. This was when Min started to run.

The four men ran after her and Min swiftly ran down an alleyway only to find out it was a dead end. The four men blocked the entrance of the alley and four more stepped out of the shadows.

"Good work," one man said to the four men blocking the alley's entrance. This man was probably their leader.

"We need to get her out of here fast, Jun.K," another man said to the leader, Jun.K

"Yes. Before they find out we have her." Jun.K walked towards Min who backed up into the men still blocking the alleyway. "We're trying to help you," Jun.K reassured.

"Yeah, we're the good guys," one of the men said with a snicker. The others let out a low chuckle until Jun.K sent them a glare which immediately shut them up.

"Come with us," Jun.K said in a monotone voice, offering no explanation.

The men watched as Min decided whether or not she would come with them. She made her choice. Min started to run, catching the men blocking the entrance by surprise. She shoved them aside with ease and continued to run. It was a few blocks from the alley when she felt a bullet graze her arm. In pain, Min fell to the ground and let out a cry of agony as she held her arm. She clenched her eyes tightly as pain seared up her arm.

"They found us!"

Gunshots rang and yelling rang out around her. Her life seemed to flash in an instant. Through the confusion and fighting, Min felt herself being picked up by strong arms and swiftly carried to a car parked along the block. Opening her eyes, she saw Jun.K's emotionless face. In his eyes, she saw a flicker of fear, but maybe it had been a trick of the light. Soon after she was safely placed inside the car, Min's vision went black and the next thing she knew, she woke up in this strange room.

The door knob jiggled and Min heard a key going into the lock, snapping her out of her memories. Into the room came Jun.K clad in a black t-shirt, black cargo pants, and a black face mask which was hanging around his neck. He carried a silver tray with a bowl of soup and a cup of hot chocolate and set it on the table next to Min's bed.

"Not going to try and hit me with a lamp this time," Jun.K asked in a sarcastic, monotone voice. Min's glared at the floor and clenched her fists. Two days after she was brought here by Jun.K and his gang, she had thought of an escape plan in which she planned to hide behind the door and knock Jun.K out cold with the lamp on her bedside table. Unfortunately for her, Jun.K was clever. Once he saw the lamp missing from the bedside table, he immediately grabbed the lamp as Min swung it down as hard as she could. Min could still feel the sting on her cheek after Jun.K slapped her.

"I'll try and find something harder to hit you with," Min mumbled through gritted teeth.

Jun.K grabbed her wounded bicep tightly and forced her to look at him.

"I will be treated with respect. I am the only reason why you are alive right now. Don't forget that."

Jun.K pushed Min away from himself roughly. Min winced and held her wounded arm and gritted her teeth harder. She refused to show him any sign of fear.

"Eat. And be sure to finish all of it," Jun.K commanded, "or else you won't be eating for the next few days."

Min nodded and started to eat the food Jun.K brought. Instead of leaving, like Min thought, Jun.K sat next to her on the bed and watched her eat. She pretended that he wasn't there and continued to eat her food in silence.

Later that evening, Jun.K returned to Min's room with fresh gauze and ointment. As he unlocked the door, he found Min lying down on her bed curled onto her side. She was staring blankly at the wall across from her as if stuck in a daydream.

Jun.K cleared his throat catching Min's attention. She pushed herself up from her lying down position and placed her hands on her lap. She held herself high and let her gaze tilt towards Jun.K who was still standing in the doorway.

Jun.K sat next to her and yanked her arm roughly and started undoing the bandage. Min hissed in pain as she felt Jun.K undoing the bandage on her arm. He loosened his grip slightly and took a cotton ball and rubbed ointment on the wound. Gently, Jun.K blew on her wound making the sting of the ointment leave. After wrapping Min’s wound in a fresh bandage, he took the tray full of empty dishes from Min's side table and headed for the door.

“Wait…”

Jun.K heard Min’s whispered voice call out to him. Jun.K turned his head slightly to meet Min’s eyes. Hers were staring at the bandage on his own arm.

“Let me help you…”

Min reached out her arm, beckoning Jun.K to her side. Jun.K set the tray back down and sat next to Min. Carefully, she unwrapped the gauze from his arm and gently traced the scabbing wound with her thumb.

"Bullet wound. Nothing too serious. I've had worse," Jun.K explained as he held out his arm.

Min nodded silently and started to rub ointment onto Jun.K's wound. "Was this from when you kidnapped me," she asked.

"We didn't kidnap you," Jun.K responded gruffly.

"Then what were you doing," Min asked as she wrapped gauze around Jun.K's wound.

"Saving you."

"From what?"

Jun.K's fist clenched and his eyes grew dark with hatred. He started to shake and Min placed her hand on his shoulder. They both looked into each other's eyes. Min's filled with fear; Jun.K's filled with bloodlust.

Min cupped his cheek and moved closer. Jun.K leaned closer as well until their lips were only centimeters apart.

"Jun.K."

A man in the doorway caught both Min's and Jun.K's attention. Min had come to know him as Taecyeon. Min and Jun.K slowly moved away from each other and Min directed her attention to the floor in front of her.

"What is it," Jun.K asked in a monotone voice.

"There is something we must discuss."

Jun.K quickly stood up and left the room, leaving Min to eat her meal in solitude. After locking the door to Min's room, Taecyeon pulled Jun.K aside.

"I don't believe there's anything to discuss," Jun.K said disinterestedly.

"Lee Min Young. Step daughter of one of the biggest gangs in South Korea, not to mention our rival. She shouldn't be here. Keeping her here is just putting all of us in danger," Taecyeon said as he crossed his arms, "As second in command, I am only thinking about what's good for us.

"And as first in command, I'm saying that she will stay here until further notice," Jun.K said firmly as he glared at Taecyeon

"Why are you keeping her here anyway," Taecyeon questioned, brushing off Jun.K's glare.

"Because she's safer here than with that sick excuse for a man," Jun.K growled under his breath.

"With her here, no one is safe," Taecyeon said with a warning look in his eyes as he grasped Jun.K's shoulder.

"Then do your job and keep watch."

Jun.K shoved his way past Taecyeon. He only walked a few steps before he heard Taecyeon's voice.

"There's another reason why you're keeping her here, isn't there," Taecyeon said in a hushed tone only loud enough for Jun.K to hear. Jun.K's hand found it's way over his heart. His fist clenched tightly and he walked away leaving Taecyeon behind.

Two week passed since Jun.K and Taecyeon's little chat and Jun.K was on a raid for more firearms with a handful of his men. Taecyeon, being second in command, was left in charge.

Jun.K and his men arrived at around eleven pm. Their raid was successful and they came back with minimal injuries. While the men chatted about the raid, Jun.K immediately went to Min's room. He unlocked the door and peeked his head inside the room only to find it empty. He tensed and swiftly pulled back the door. She wasn't hiding behind the door. There was no where else for her to hide.

Jun.K marched out of the room in blind rage. He found Taecyeon lounging on the couch laughing with the other men. Jun.K grabbed Taecyeon by the collar and punched him across the face. Taecyeon fell back onto the floor and the rest of the men hushed, watching the scene unfolding in front of them.

"Where is she!"

Taecyeon wiped the blood off of his lips and glared at Jun.K. "I did what I had to do."

A kick landed on Taecyeon's chest. He grunted in pain and held his arm against his chest.

"I said, where is she!" Jun.K grabbed Taecyeon by the next and slammed his head onto the concrete floor. "Answer me!"

"I did what I had to do," Taecyeon exclaimed as he pushed Jun.K off of him, "They were going to kill us all if we didn't give her up! It was a mistake to bring her here! Why should we risk our lives to save hers! We're better off without her! It doesn't matter what they do to her as long as we're safe!"

"You brought her to that sorry excuse for a human being!" Jun.K punched Taecyeon over and over again until his knuckles were red and Taecyeon's face was bloodied and bruised. Jun.K pulled out his pistol and pulled the trigger, watching Taecyeon's body become limp on the concrete floor.

Jun.K bolted out the door and headed to his car. He knew perfectly well where Min was.

Bullets shot through the air and the bodies of the security guards fell to the ground in an instant. Kicking open the door to the back of the club, Jun.K stormed in. He shot at anyone that was in his way, bodies littering the halls.

He kicked open the door leading to the stage only to find Min crouched on the floor with her hands tied behind her back, her ankles tied together, and a cloth shoved into . She was dressed in a black bandeau top, black shorts, and black heels. Her milky white skin was littered with bruises. Her eyes were closed and her breathing was slow, almost as if they had drugged her.

"Min!" Jun.K exclaimed as he ran towards Min and started to untie her.

Min's eyes opened the slightest bit. When she was greeted with the sight of Jun.K, she mumbled through the gag shoved into . Noticing this, Jun.K pulled the gag out of and held her close to him.

"Min, are you okay," Jun.K asked as he her face gently.

Panic seized Min and she started to hyperventilate. "We have to go. W-We have to leave. Th-They'll catch me and h-hurt me a-and," Min stuttered as she began to sob into Jun.K's chest.

Jun.K whispered words of comfort to her and her hair. Gently, Jun.K pressed his lips against Min's. The two shared a sweet kiss and Min felt herself calming down.

Jun.K became stiff and Min opened her eyes only to stare into Jun.K's wide ones. Confused, Min pulled away from him. As she did, his body fell to the  ground next to her. Looking up from Jun.K's body, Min saw her step father standing in the doorway.

"A-Abeoji...." Min mumbled as her step father neared. She tried to scoot away but he grabbed her by the arm roughly and the curtains parted. Lights blinded Min as she was forced into the center of the stage by her father.

"We'll start the bidding at a hundred thousand won," he said as he pocketed his shot gun which was now a bullet short.
