Chapter 39

Yunho groaned. With pleading eyes, he said, “Please, mom. Please don’t make it difficult. I love her. I can’t live without her. After all we’ve been through, I’m deeply in love with her. Without her by my side then I’m finished.” He then sighed deeply, letting out his despair.

“What about Jiyeon? You are dating with her too, right?”

“No. We have finished our love relationship a long time ago. We’re only good friends now & also, she’s my business partner. Not more than that.” He answered quickly.

“But you told me that you love her.” Mrs. Jung threw her question while staring at him intently.

“I thought I loved her but I was wrong. Maybe I only like Yeonnie not love her. Like is different with love. I realize my feelings towards Yuri has become stronger & I couldn’t forget her. She’s my true love, mom. I can only be happy if I’m with her & our son.”

Mrs. Jung sighed secretly. She looked at her only son. Yunho would stand up for his choice. She know his character very well. However, she still couldn’t believe that Yuri loved her son, too. They often got into fights easily. What if someday she left him again? As his mother, she should protect her only son from ruining his own life.

However, as she couldn’t fight him, knowing how stubborn he is, Mrs. Jung tried to find another solution. She looked at Yunho who was staring at her with a little bit of anger on his face. She sighed secretly. He got his stubbornness from her side, “Alright. Why don’t you bring her tomorrow to our house? I want to have a nice talk with her. You know we don’t have a good relationship all this time.”

Yunho still watched his mother’s face in doubt, “Mom, what are you going to talk about?” He asked worriedly, “Woman’s things.” She tried to smile. When she saw Yunho still doubting her, Mrs. Jung patted his back, “Trust me. I won’t do anything to harm her. Both of you have promised each other to start a new life together. We will all be a family someday if you marry her. She will be my daughter-in-law so is it wrong that I want to know her better?”

Yunho finally smiled at his mother in gratitude, “Okay. I’ll give you & Yuri a long time to talk. Tomorrow is Saturday. I will bring Chun as he likes to be in the water. Gosh. He just recovered from his sickness but when he saw our swimming pool, he just wants to jump in.” He laughed, imagining his mischief son. The Jung family had a nice swimming pool in the backyard & Chunghee always screamed when he saw it. He liked to being in the water though he couldn’t swim.

“I hope this time she will come.” Mrs. Jung said sarcastically, as the other day, Yuri refused to come when she asked her to join them for a family lunch.

“She will, mom. Don’t worry.” Yunho made sure by nodding his head several times, “Now, I have to call uncle Jaehwa to prepare a new paper for us.”

Yunho dialed Jaehwa’s number when he heard his mother reminding him about the time, “It’s almost midnight, Yunho. Can’t you wait until tomorrow to talk with him?”

He grinned happily, full of excitement, “I’m sure uncle Jaehwa doesn’t mind hearing my good news. I can’t wait, mom. I’m so excited tonight. Finally she agrees to marry me.” He paused when he heard someone answering from the other line, “May I speak to uncle Jaehwa please? It’s Jung Yunho.”

Mrs. Jung watched him as he talked to Jaehwa enthusiastically. She had never seen Yunho this happy before. She just hoped Yuri would love him back, ‘Living together without love would be liked living in hell!’ Her mind told herself. She came back to the present when she heard Yunho shouting in shock.

“Are you telling me the truth, uncle Jaehwa? You aren’t lying to me, are you?” Yunho said in disbelief. His eyes widened.

“I have called her a few times when she was in Sydney, including leaving her messages but she has never called me back. Last time, when I contacted her again, someone took the call & put the phone down without any word. My god, Yunho. What’s going on? I only want to tell her that the divorce couldn’t be arranged as she hasn’t signed it yet. Only you have signed it & it’s not legal. Both of you have to sign it. I want to send the paper back to have her signature but I need her address.”

Yunho felt his heart stopped beating, ‘That is called miracle.’ He said to himself. He tried to calm his heartbeat, “So, that means that we haven’t been divorced yet?” His voice was husky as he was shaking to control his own emotion.

“Lawfully, yes. Both of you are still engaged in marriage. I’m sorry I didn’t contact you. I heard from your father that your son was sick. I didn’t want to disturb you but he’s okay now, right? & by the way, why did you call me in the middle of the night for, Yunho?”

Yunho sighed in relief & said happily, “Nothing! I just want to make sure that you still kept the original paper! Thank you, uncle Jaehwa! Thank you for the greatest news tonight! My god! I don’t believe so many miracles is happening at the same time!” He grumbled, ignoring his lawyer who heard his words in puzzlement, “I’ll call you again tomorrow, uncle Jaehwa Sorry for disturbing your peaceful sleep. Thank you again.”

He put down the phone & looked at his mother with a dumb face on, “Mom, did you hear that?” Looking at his mother who kept queit, he shouted in delight, “She’s still my wife! We have never got divorced!”

Mrs. Jung still stared at his red, yet bright face with many questions in her head. She had to get the answer from Kwon Yuri tomorrow.

Mrs. Jung lifted her head up from the book when the housekeeper told her Yunho came along with Yuri & Chunghee. Her head snapped up as she closed the book. She looked at the clock. It was still early for lunch. She turned her head & said, “Please prepare lunch at three o’clock & please bring the drinks & fruits to Yunho & Chunghee at the swimming pool. I think they will go swimming this morning.”

“Yes, madam, & how about Miss Kwon?”

“I’ll take care of her by myself. Thank you.”

Yuri was shuddering when she stepped into the Jung mansion. She hesitated to walk in. She just stared at the main door in front of her.

“Hey. Don’t be scared. It’s my home & it will be your home, too.” Yunho whispered. His voice was soft, caressing. She looked up at him, smiling in gratitude. She moved closer until his arm slipped around her waist while his other arm was holding Chunghee.

“I’m not.” She tried to deny it, brushing aside her silky hair that shaded her face.

“Okay. Sorry. It’s just my feelings.” He increased the pressure of his arm & held her tightly to his body. He stole a peck on her cheeks, “Mom wants to talk to you. I’ll be waiting in the backyard with Chun. We wanted to go swimming, right, Chun?”

Chunghee wasn’t paying attention as he was too busy pulling out his father’s hair. Then he grinned when Yunho showed him his painful look comically, “Aw, it hurts, Chun.”

Yuri looked at them & giggled, “Serves you right, Yunho Oppa.”

“You don’t feel pity for me?!” He complained, as he struggled with his mischief son. He tickled her waist, her screamed in shock.

“Oppa.” She giggled at him, trying to utter soft low sounds.

“Oppa.” Suddenly, Chunghee said to them.

Both, Yuri & Yunho turned their head to stare at him, “He talked a new word, Yul, & he said Oppa, instead of Yunho?” He asked his son again, “Say Yunho, Chun.”

“Yunho.” Chunghee said, smiling innocently.

“Good boy but you have to call me daddy. Okay?”

“Daddy! Daddy!” Chunghee screamed again, with all of his breath in his lungs. It was his favorite words beside mommy.

“My god, Yul. He likes to scream in my ear.” He said. He laughed lightly & tweaked his son’s nose, “Please don’t scream, Chun. You can say it nicely.”

The voice of someone clearing distracted them from their fun-loving conversation. Yunho turned his head & smiled widely, “Hello mom.” He paused & kissed his mother’s cheek, “I brought Yuri & Chun with me today.”

“Hello Mrs. Jung.” Yuri greeted, & bowed her head slightly.

Mrs. Jung smiled. She looked at Yuri who was standing nervously beside Yunho. She admitted that Yuri was a perfect woman for him. Dressed in a casual grey & black elbow length sleeves zip sweatshirt & light brown easy tie front pants, she looked young, fresh yet didn’t lose her natural beauty. She understood how her son fell in love with her. She spotted Yunho’s left hand holding her waist tightly as if he wanted to protect her from his own mother. She shook her head secretly. Yunho was really scared that his own mother would kill his love liked a tiger eating its prey.

“I believe this is your first time to our house as the other day you just drop in on Chunghee’s birthday.”

Yuri felt her face reddened. She felt inconvenient as she felt like Mrs. Jung was criticizing her attitude.

“I’m sorry for that day, I was…”

“It’s my fault, mom. We had a misunderstanding that night. I didn’t think any further. I just made a simple thought by sending her home. Please don’t get mad at Yuri.” He pleaded to his mother to understand him.

His mother sighed again, “Why don’t you two go outside & swim now? The weather is nice & I have ordered drinks & fruits for you.” Mrs. Jung said casually.

Yunho hesitated to go, leaving Yuri alone with his mother. However, looking at his mother’s serious face, he sighed deeply, secretly “Okay. I’ll be waiting with Chun in the swimming pool then. See you there, Yul.” He kissed her cheeks in front of his mother, showing his deep love for her.

Yuri turned red in embarrassment, ‘Why did he kiss me in front of his mother? What would Mrs. Jung think of me now?’ She asked herself in despair. She gave him a mock glare. He only laughed out loud to hide his nervousness.

When Yunho & Chunghee left, Mrs. Jung took an initiation to start the conversation, “Do you want to walk around the house? I can show you.”

Yuri smiled politely, “Thank you. I would love to if you don’t mind.”

Walking together awkwardly with Yunho’s mother made her shivered slightly. She kept quiet as she didn’t know what to say. When they reached the gazebo, they took a seat. Mrs. Jung ordered the servant to bring them some drinks.

“Are you serious about marrying Yunho?” Mrs. Jung suddenly asked Yuri.

Yuri gulped her saliva nervously. She nodded & said softly, “Yes.”

“Why?” That was a simple question, yet it made Yuri’s heart jump up & down. She had to think carefully, otherwise the misunderstanding between her & Yunho’s mother would be deeper.

“He’s the big love of my life.” She answered it firmly, yet in a tender gesture. Her beautiful eyes shone brightly, showing her deep love for Yunho.

“I remember how you hated him in the beginning. You even sent him to jail & refused to forgive him. I’m afraid you just want to take revenge for
