Chapter 32

Avoiding his mother’s questioning look, Yunho gave Chunghee to her without uttering any word & then dashed into his room, slamming the door shut. Mrs. Jung looked at her son in depression. What was going on with him? Wasn’t he suppose to fly to Vietnam at this time? She sighed deeply. Looking at his misty eyes, pale face & weird acts, it must have been Yuri again. As a mother, she couldn’t bare to see her only son destroying his life because of that common girl. She felt her eyes getting hot all of a sudden. If it weren’t for the sake of Yunho, she had already slapped her face for distressing Yunho. She let out a deep sigh again. She hadn’t taken any action to Yuri yet as she knew Yunho wouldn’t agree. She didn’t want her son to end up hating her for slapping Yuri. He loved her so much & she knew it. Why did fate arrange them to meet? Maybe it would be better if Yuri went to Australia as soon as possible. Yunho would suffer for sure but it was for the best as he didn’t have to see her face anymore for the rest of his life. Maybe time would help him restore his depressing life. She looked at Yunho’s bedroom door again, as he slammed it harshly.

Yunho put himself on his bed. Sitting down, he closed his eyes as he felt anger still eating at him. He punched the pillow several times to let his emotion out. Why did she always hurt him? That was the question that he couldn’t understand. However, recalling their last big fight, he could see her beautiful eyes shimmering with tears. He could tell that she was hurt as him. Did she really cry? Did she cry because of his words? Did he hurt her feelings as she hurt him? He admitted that his words weren’t true completely. She did love Chunghee. He could see from her eyes while staring at their son. He could see from their mother-son relationship. How Chunghee always screamed in delight when he saw her. It was impossible for his son to act innocently if he didn’t feel his mother’s love towards him but did his eyes tell him the truth? Why was it so hard to have her heart? Did they still have a chance to be together as he had been yearning all these months? He punched his pillow in frustration again. He lay down on his bed tiredly & took in a deep breath. His mind was completely depressed, ‘Why Yuri?! Why do we have to end up like this?!’ His heart cried out.

After relaxing his mind for a moment, he got up from his bed & raked his hairs with his fingers, “I’m not giving you up, Kwon Yuri. That is my vow. For Chunghee & myself, I won’t give you up” He swore, under his breath.

Pulling out his drawer next to his bed, he took a small dark blue box. He opened it & saw a 14k white gold angela diamond ring glistering inside. It was the ring that he bought a few months ago to propose to Yuri when the time was perfect. During that time, their relationship was running smoothly as they were dating & having fun together. He regretted it not to propose to her sooner. He couldn’t believe that their relationship had turned into disaster. He pulled out the ring from its place & looked at the words engraved on the inside, ‘Love you forever’. It was the special words that he asked the jeweler to engrave on the ring for his love.

His heart was twisting in pain again. The pain was stronger this time. Would the time come when he could say those three sacred words to her & see her beautiful face nodding shyly to answer him? He closed his eyes as he felt tears threatening to flow down. He shouldn’t cry. He wasn’t pathetic. He was a man, a strong man. He shouldn’t cry. He blinked his eyes several times & finally, he could control his emotion. All these years, he had never shed any tears. He closed the box & put it back in its place.

Straightening his white wide herringbone non-iron spread slim fit shirt, he combed his hair & went outside his bedroom. He should give a reasonable answer to his mother & father. He couldn’t let them down & worried about him. He was a married man even though his marriage was a big joke. He let out a big sigh before opening his bedroom door. He couldn’t let his mother misunderstand about Yuri. He swore to make her his real wife whatever the risk cost. He couldn’t let his true love pass over his life. True love would only come once in a while & he was sure that she was his true love. He felt like he had lost his heart & soul already & he could never fall in love again, with another woman. He would be waiting for her to come back into his arms even if it took forever.

Yuri felt bad as Yunho didn’t call her for the last eight days. It was beyond her expectation. He could be so dangerous when his bad temper rose up. She sighed deeply. She got scold from her mother too, because of him. It was her fault this time. She didn’t expect that he would burst out in anger liked that morning. What did make him so angry? Did a piece of blue paper make him angry? She stared at Yoongi’s masterpiece scattering inside the rubbish bin. What would she tell Yoongi about it? She sighed again, in despair. Her mind was muddled, thinking of what she was going to do to make it up to both, Yunho & Yoongi. Why did Yunho’s anger make her feel so guilty, more than what he had done to Yoongi’s masterpiece?

It was three o’clock in the afternoon already. Yunho still didn’t call, “He’s still angry with me, definitely.” She said, under her breath. She couldn’t sleep during these eight days, thinking & crying about him over & over again. As a result, she couldn’t go to school with her panda eyes. Did he go to Vietnam as his plan? What about Chunghee? What if he stayed in his parent’s house? She pulled her shaking hands from dialing the number of his mobile. What if he had really gone to Vietnam & his mother answer his mobile? What would she say? She shook her head as she didn’t have the courage to speak to his mother. She knew from Yunho’s face expression that his mother didn’t like her every time they talked about his mother. Yunho had never said anything but she had a feeling that his mother hated her.

She looked at the calendar & realized that it was October already. Time went by fast. She was brought back from her wandering mind when suddenly she remembered one thing. Yunho’s birthday. His birthday was on February the sixth which she completely forgot it. She didn’t say anything to him. She closed her eyes. She had to apologize to him. After all, she was the one who started the fight. Never before had she been the one to apologize first but there's a first time for everything, right? Yunho was really angry this time. She was sure as he was usually the one who came & asked for her forgiveness, not her. The thought of him hating her made her body shake in fear. She put her head down on the table & fell asleep as she was really tired.

Blinking her eyes, she saw the darkness of her bedroom. What time was it? She glanced at the clock. five. She sighed. She wanted to take a bath before starting on her thesis. She turned the computer on & went to the bathroom. Feeling the hot water running into her body, she felt relax but her mind kept thinking of Yunho. What was he doing right now? Did he regret their fight eight days ago as she did? She turned off the water as she finished. Taking her towel, she looked for her dress. Damn! She forgot to bring it with her. She put the bath towel around her body & was about to turned the doorknob when she heard someone singing in her bedroom softly. She knitted her eyebrows. She leant in on the door & listened carefully. It sounded Yunho’s voice. She frowned. She had never heard him sing before. She admitted that his voice was great but then again, she shook her head. She must have been dreaming again. Why would he sing suddenly? He always said he couldn’t sing. Once, she forced him to sing for his punishment when they played scrabbles & he was the loser, however, he pleaded & swore that he couldn’t sing.

She opened the bathroom door & let out a little scream as she saw Yunho & Chunghee playing with his new toy on her bed in real & her scream became louder as the towel was slipping slightly from her body & she grabbed it back quickly. She did it on time before Yunho saw her .

Yunho turned his head & grinned weakly, looking at her, undressed with only a towel around her body. She was shocked. Her eyes widened but her face blushed as a beetroot.

“Sorry. I will wait outside.” He said softly, & signaled for his son to follow him, “Come on, Chun. We’re waiting outside. Mommy wants to get dress.” He reached out his arms & immediately, Chunghee ran into his chest with his loud grinned.

Yuri still stared at them in disbelieve. Were they really there in her room or was it only her imagination? However, the sound of the door closing made her realized that it wasn’t a dream. They were here. Suddenly, she felt excitement in her heart. She let out a deep sigh in relief. Her lips curved up into a smile as she shook her head. Yunho seemed to act normal like usual. Was he still angry with her? Putting her clothes on quickly, she saw her image in the dressing mirror. Terrible. She had to put on some light makeup on her pale face. She couldn’t see Yunho with her horrible face liked this. She combed her hair & pulled it back to make a cute bun. After making sure that she looked good, she went out from her bedroom & went down to the living room where she heard her parent’s voice talking to Yunho.

“Hi, Yuri.” Yunho greeted her gently, when his eyes spotted her stepping on the last flight of stairs.

“Hi.” She gave him her best smile.

He looked at her face & groaned inside. She looked more beautiful every time he visit her, although her eyes were swollen & her face was slightly pale under her light makeup. Suddenly, his anger towards her disappeared. He felt guilty for saying those harsh words to her eight days ago. He stared at her without blinking. He came back to the present when he heard Yuri’s father coughing slightly. He smiled in embarrassment.

“Okay, Yunho. Yuri is here. Please excuse us. Her mother wants to see her favorite tv drama.” Yuri’s father said, pointing at his wife who was knitting her eyebrows. However, she smiled lightly as she understood her husband to let them solve their problem.

“Oh, sure, sure.” Yunho answered quickly, grinning shyly to see Yuri’s parents giving him privacy with Yuri, “Come on, Chun. Grandma have a present for you.”

Chunghee screamed out in delight, hearing the word present. Although he didn’t know what was the meaning of it, it would be something nice to indulge him. He knew it. He ran into his grandmother’s embrace, leaving his parents alone in the living room. Yuri stood still at the last flight of stair, not knowing what she was going to do. She stared at him. Their eyes met for a moment. This time wasn’t in anger.

“Yun/Yul.”

They stopped & smiled a bit as they said in the same time. They felt awkward with each other.

“You first, Yul.”

“Um...Oh, I just want to say that I was surprised to see you tonight. I thought you were going to Vietnam.” She said weakly, looking down at the floor, still afraid of his gaze.

“I cancelled it.”

She lifted her face up & stared into his eyes again. Yunho put on a light smile & signaled her to sit next to him. She dragged her feet towards him & sat down beside him. She had to apologize to him.

“Oppa, I want to say…”

“I’m sorry, Yul. I’m sorry for what I’ve done last Saturday.” He cut her words off. His eyes were staring at her deeply, full of guilty feelings.

She saw his pleading eyes & nodded, biting her lower pale pink lips. Her eyes felt hot again, ‘Why is he so nice to me?!’ Her heart screamed out, “I’m sorry, too. I was acting ridiculous.” She lowered her face again, avoiding his gaze again.

“So, we’re even.” His voice was light & she could hear him taking in a deep breath.

“But what about your work in Vietnam? You can’t…”

“Oh, it doesn’t matter. It’s only a business research. I can do it next time.”

Silence came again. They were wondering with their own mind.

“Why do you always bring Chunghee every night to see me, Oppa? You know for sure that I will leave him in a few months later. Please don’t make it difficult for both of us when the time comes.” She suddenly asked, the question that was haunting her mind almost every night she spent with her son. He didn’t answer. She could hear him taking another deep breath.

“I don’t want him to forget his beautiful & loving mother.” He said softly, with trembling voice, full of emotion.

Yuri could feel her eyes getting hot again, as tears began forming in her eyes. She felt her heart twisting in pain as she was touched with his words.
