Chapter 10

Three months had passed. Yuri had been legally married to Yunho. She always gave him a cold gesture every time he visit her but Yunho didn’t take any action to protests. He swallowed all her angers without retorting back. He just tried his best to win his stubborn, cold, bad-tempered wife’s heart. He kept visiting her three times a week as their agreement & fulfilling all his duties to take care of her although Yuri often gave him a deadly glare & treated him badly. Several times, he brought her flowers, food or books but all of them ended up in the rubbish bin in front of his face. Yunho watched it in a mixed emotion that he couldn’t describe, yet tried hard to hide it from her. He didn’t let his emotion out as he knew Yuri was doing that on purpose to challenge his patient. He kept sending her all those things even though he knew he would be disappointed at the end. On the contrary, Yuri groaned in despair secretly, most of the time thinking how nice he was treating her. She kept telling herself to be strong as she was afraid she would fall for his sweetness.

She often watched him secretly, joking with her little sister or talking lightly with her parents, ‘He has a good sense of humor.’ Her mind told her. However, in front of her, Yunho would be so serious, losing all his mischievousness as he was afraid his stubborn wife would scold him.

Her family had welcomed him with open heart finally. After all, they thought he deserved to have a second chance but they didn’t talk about him in front of Yuri as she always get angry when hearing them saying his name.

Yuri’s mother remembered the unforgettable moment when Yunho came into their house, bringing all kinds of fruits in a big basket. Before she can asked, Yunho explained with a red face that he heard that pregnant woman had weird cravings of things, including an attempt to eat a specific fruit. Since he didn’t know what Yuri wanted, he bought all kinds of fruit he saw in the supermarket.

Yuri’s mother smiled gratefully but not long after that, she frowned when Yuri threw it away into the rubbish bin in front of Yunho. She knew her daughter did it on purpose. Yuri just wanted to let out her anger, frustration & emotion towards him. She could see his face whiten. To her surprise, Yunho didn’t say anything, just smiled bitterly. The next two days, he came again, & brought many kinds of delicious dessert from the best bakery in town. Once again, they all ended up in the rubbish bin. Yuri’s mother shook her head secretly to see this couple testing each others emotion.

During the time, Yuri observed him in agony, ‘What the hell is wrong with him?! Why didn’t he fight back?’ Now, she knew that the reality was even worse. She felt that she was starting to fall for him gradually without her realization. Her heart was weakening to his sweetness, innocent & sincere heart. She felt terrified. However, her mind reminded her heart to be strong.

There was a time when Yunho came over since her parents & Youngmi went out to a party. It was only her at home alone. She felt weird being alone with him but she didn’t have a heart to send him off. He looked tired because he came straight from the office. His blue long sleeve windowpane plaid shirt was wrinkled. His hair was a little bit mess up but she had to admit, he hadn’t lost his charms. At the end, they ended up watching tv all night without talking to each other. Yuri swore she didn’t even notice what was the tv program on that night. Her mind was busy understanding the feeling of mixed emotion struggling inside her heart. How she longed to find out what he had been feeling & thinking of? She heard him sighing several times silently as they sat on the couch next to each other. When she peeked at him, she saw him staring at the tv monitor blankly. His eyes were misty. His mind was wandering somewhere else.

As for Yoongi, her fiance had accepted whatever her decision is when she told him about the baby. Even his heart broke for the second time, knowing that his beloved fiance was pregnant with another man’s child, he still promised to stay faithful to her & wait for her. After she gives birth to her baby, gave it to Yunho, Yuri would continue to work & finish her study before they got married in Australia. That was her plan.

Yunho had never talked about his plan to go to America that had been canceled before. Yuri heard from her sister, Mimi, that he canceled his study although his luggage, books, apartment & all his study’s needs had been waiting for him there, including his former girlfriend, Park Jiyeon. Meanwhile, he was working for his father before he started a new business on his own. He wanted to be independent, free from his father’s wings. He learned about all the hard business strategies & how to manage the finance so he could be successful as his father someday. In the beginning, his parents were disappointed when Yunho came home & said he quitted his study. However, as the time flew by, they had to admit that their only son had matured & was ready to take over the business from his father in the future.

In fact, the only reason that kept Yunho in Seoul was Yuri & his baby but it was always a secret in his heart. The other day, his mother asked him casually if he had fallen in love with Yuri. He just smiled & refused to answer. Maybe his mother was right, he had fallen head over heels for her but how could he make her love him back? This fact often made him frustrated. He had to be patient. That was what his heart told him all the time when he was upset & wanted to give up because of her cold attitude towards him.

February had come. Her baby had almost entered its third semester. Yunho had called her this morning, reminding her about her appointment with the doctor this afternoon. Yuri usually went with her mother, refusing to go together with Yunho. Other pregnant women would be happy to go with their husband to see the doctor but she wasn’t. She didn’t feel comfortable going with him.

However, this time, Yunho insisted to go along. She didn’t know why but recently, she felt weak when seeing those eyes pleading to her. She finally agreed to see the doctor with him. In return, she saw his eyes sparkling in happiness. She groaned inside.

They entered the luxury private hospital in the heart of the city. Yunho had changed her doctor to his family doctor. He said that he wanted to feel secured as the doctor had been his family doctor for a long time. He wanted to make sure that he provided the best for his baby. However, the other important reason was because of the press had indicated something about him as they caught him spending three hours in the baby shop. Luckily, Yuri & him had never gone to the doctor before so his woman was still a mystery. If they could get her then he had definitely violated their marriage agreement.

“Sit here, Yul. I need to inform the nurse that we have come already.”

Yuri nodded slowly & took a seat in a nice couch in the waiting room. Air conditioner was running in the comfy private hospital. Yunho went to the registration counter & came back with a paper to fill out.

“Yul, you have to fill this form as you’re a new patient here. They need your records.” He said casually, giving her a blank form with several questions on it.

Yuri pouted, “You do it. You are the one who asked me to change my doctor.” She said, trying to keep her cold tones. Her eyes met his & she acted as coolly as she could.

Yunho wasn’t smiling now. Yuri saw in satisfaction. He had lost to her again. Sighing, Yunho took the pen & started to write down the information needed.

Yuri tried to keep her cold gesture but she couldn’t help but to find out what he was writing. How could he answer all the private questions about her? She just wanted to laugh. She peeked at him & was stunned. To her surprises, Yunho seemed to know all about her. She glanced at the paper again, & read silently.

‘How could he know so much about me? My birthday & even my symptoms.’ She thought bewilderedly. On the other hand, she didn’t know anything about him except his name, Jung Yunho. She stared at him in disbelief as he got up to give the form back to the nurse. He had been treating her nicely since the incident. His father had said before that his son, Yunho, was a nice man. Now, she found herself having doubts. Was this Jung Yunho really a nice man? Was the brutality & fierceness she’d seen in him on that night only provoked in him because of the ego of a spoilt man?

‘Oh, what does it matter, Yuri?’ Her mind reminded her. Whether he was vicious or nice, it could never mean anything to her. It was clear that she couldn’t let herself to be a part of his life.

Then they were sitting next to each other in silent. Yuri kept quiet & opened the magazine to cover up her wandering mind.

Yunho peeked at her secretly. He found his wife becoming more beautiful everyday. Her skin was smoother; her face was brighter, not pale like before. He watched her absently for a moment. She wore no makeup unless her lipstick, yet her skin was perfectly clear & fresh, her pink lips was as soft as a feather, her long lashes naturally dark. He groaned inside.

She sat quietly next to him, her face only inches away from him. Yunho sat still, holding his breath in while fighting
