Letter of Autumn

Autumn

I guess it doesn’t matter even if I’ll beg, I’ll cry,

No one will hear it anyway.

No one is willing to give me hope.

No one will try to love me whole.



No one.



But you proved me wrong.

You came at my worst moment.

You gave me your hanky, trying your best to make me feel better.

You brought light to the darkness. You’re my savior.



Your name’s Chen,

You got a lovely smile, a beautiful voice,

You asked for my name,

But I never answered.



I tried to say ‘No’, but you insisted.

I don’t want you to be hurt, but you said it’s fine.

You said ‘It’s because I love you’,

I never replied.



It took weeks, months, almost a year,

You never stopped, you’re always at my side,

Making me happy and hopeful,

And maybe, you’re the one that I need.



But after 2nd week of September,

You stopped texting, you missed my calls,

I didn’t see you at school,

You never showed up again.



And then I realized,

How much you mean to me,

I was a fool, that I only recognized,

When you’re not there anymore.



I asked for everyone,

But I got no answers,

Where the hell are you?

What did I do?



I got a letter last Sunday,

September 22,

I read and read,

‘Why didn’t you tell me?’



“Dear my lovely autumn, I’m sorry.

I cannot make you smile again.

I know I did wrong, Forgive me.

Smile again, love your spring.’



I cried, you never told me.

Got diagnosed by cancer, you never did.

I felt awful that I never noticed,

Behind those cheerful smiles, you’re hurting.



I went to your house,

But they said you’re out,

I waited for so long,

Yet you never came out.



After hours of waiting,

I saw you and got shocked.

I never knew my cheerful spring,

Is in that vulnerable state.



There’s no smile,

I sobbed,

You’re hurting,

I cried.



‘Dear, cheerful spring, I’m sorry.

I cannot return the things you did.

I know I’m at fault, forgive me.

Smile again, love Autumn.’



I sent the letter I wrote,

Yes my name is Autumn,

It’s a nickname you gave but it’s true,

My name’s Autumn, and I love you too.
