Guest Appearance
SHINee's American DongsengThursday, August 7
Today, I actually didn’t see SHINee at all! They all had early schedules and today was my individual training day.
I can’t say that I’m terribly upset about it… I don’t really want to talk to any of them right now. Especially not Onew or Taemin.
I know Taemin’s my boyfriend and all, but after last night… I need some time to think about what to say to him.
So today was a nice day where I didn’t have to talk to SHINee… I needed a break anyway.
AND I GOT TO MEET A CELEBRITY!!!
I woke up early this morning (too early… I think I need a holiday), got minimal amounts of makeup on, and headed to SM to practice.
When I got to my practice room, the film crew was there, but the trainer I had last week wasn’t.
Not knowing what to do, I found the lyrics to the song I was practicing, played the accompaniment track, and started singing.
After about 10 minutes of me trying to not be totally awkward on camera, the door to my practice room opened.
I turned quickly, expecting to see my trainer from last week. But that’s not who walked in the door.
“Hello!” He called out in English. “You must be Hannah!”
I let out a little fangirl squeal and immediately covered my mouth with my hands.
Henry Lau closed the door behind him, laughing at my outburst.
“Are you…” I asked, “Are you Henry Lau?”
He laughed again. “Since you know who I am, you must know that I speak English fluently, right? So you don’t have to speak Korean.”
I smiled. It had been a long time since I spoke with anyone who spoke my language really well. Key tries, and I really appreciate that he does that for me, but he’s not perfect.
“Wow,” I responded in English. “I am such a big fan of yours!” I ran over and shook his hand. “It’s a pleasure to meet you!”
“You’re my fan?”
“Oh yeah, totally! I think you’re really amazingly talented! But, if you don’t mind my asking, why are you here?”
“I’m your personal trainer for the day!” He said, laughing at the shock that must have appeared on my face. “The writers of your show thought it would be nice for you to be able to talk with someone from SM that understands what you’re going through.”
And so began my day of training with the one and only Henry Lau.
It was really great being able to speak English ALL DAY LONG!!!
We worked a lot on singing and dancing. One time, when Henry was trying to teach me a specif move, he grabbed both my hands.
I didn’t really care. I mean, skinship is a big deal in South Korea, but not in the States, and probably not in Canada.
However, the film crew was a little bit surprised; Henry and I both picked up on it.
So, we walked up to the camera and explained how, for our cultures, skinship is fairly normal. Just to prove our point, Henry gave me a big hug.
I don’t know if they’re going to air that… but it was fun anyway. AND I GOT TO HUG HENRY LAU!!! *FANIGIRL SCREAM*
We also had a nice long conversation about what it’s really like to be a K-Pop idol. I think I learned a lot today.
When I got back to the dorm, SHINee still wasn’t back, so I just went into my room and haven’t left since. I think I just heard the front door open though, so I think I’m going to sleep now… Or at least I’m going to pretend to be asleep.
I’m still not ready to talk to Onew or Taemin.
