Falling Into Place
My Boyfriend's Best Friend
The dark haired boy called her name down the hallway, through the crowds of people.
"Sulli-ah!"
As he neared her, she keep his heart from thumping wildly inside her ribcage. All their conversations and she never had been able to confess, to put her feelings into words. She was unworthy. He would never accept her confession anyways.
"Can I talk to you?" He asked, when he caught up to her in the hall.
"Sure," she said as casually as she could. Nonchalance was hard to fake around Minho.
They went into the drama hall which had no lockers and was virtually empty. She wasn't sure why he needed to speak with her so urgently but he seemed excited, almost jumping with anticipation.
"I'm going to confess to Krystal-ssi!" He grinned broadly at her, waiting for her to share his excitement.
Her heart dropped.
"Wow!" The voice that came out of sounded fake even in her head. "I'm really happy for you."
"Don't be too happy yet. She hasn't said yes yet." To her dismay, he was still smiling. He must be confident.
She'd be happier if Krystal said no.
"Do you need help with your confession?"
"Nope." He whipped out a piece of lined paper from his jeans' pocket. "Everything I want to say is right here."
"Well... Um," she struggled to find the appropriate words. "Good luck."
"Thanks! I'm going to confess right now." He gave her a quick hug before dashing off down the hall.
It felt strange.
Strange, yes, but somehow everything seemed to fit.
When she was with Minho, her boyfriend, she was reminded of Taemin. Not in a bad way, in a distant way, like a faded memory. The past was behind her, Taemin was behind her. In a sense though, certain feelings and aspects of your history stay with you. In this case, she felt that Taemin's warmth and light was still part of who she was.
She missed it, but for the first time in years, she truly felt like she was starting fresh. It was her new beginning.
Not everyone seemed to understand, though.
Walking down the hallway grasping Minho's hand, she could feel eyes boring into her spine like daggers. She could hear snippets of gossip; her name in association with almost every known foul word for women. It seemed no matter how little people knew about her, they all had something to say. Often times, it wasn't anything nice.
She had broken Taemin's heart only to seduce his best friend and rub it in his face.
She was the malicious seductress and Minho and Taemin were the victims. That basically only a third true.
She felt guilt, pain, doubt and nervousness yet Minho reassured her. In small ways: when he caressed the back of her hand with his thumb, when he would brush his upper arm against her shoulder to show support, when he would give her little looks of admiration. How, after everything that had happened, had she come to deserve this - to deserve him?
Minho.
If he still supported her, she felt like nothing could tear them apart.

May.
Krystal hated that month. It was close to exams and summer break, which she oddly hated, mostly because she thrived in the social environment of a school. What did a popular girl do outside the social hierarchy?
This year, it was even worse because it was close to prom. Prom would normally be a good thing except that she had faced double rejection in the past few months and didn't exactly have her ideal choice of date.
On top of that, she had to keep from puking every time she Minho and Sulli together. She hated that more than anything. Soon though, she told herself, she would have the power to change that.
It had been two months since she had recruited that tech student from the computer lab. Luckily, he had called to meet her just a few days ago.
"Sorry it took a while," he said the other day. He was holding a large brown envelope, presumably containing what she was looking for. "In fact, it was rather lucky that I could even find any dirt on those two. They seemed like pretty model students."
Krystal chuckled. "Model students... I guess we'll see about that." She plucked the envelope from the boys hands. She was eager to open it, yet smart enough that she knew she needed to be discreet.
"That should be enough for whatever scheme you have been plotting." The boy seemed skeptical.
"It had better be," she warned.
Now all that was left was to commence her plan.
