A Blind Date
My Boyfriend's Best Friend
The sound of a whistle rang out across the soccer field, signalling the end of warm-up. Minho sighed, jogging over to the bench to get a drink from his water bottle. The fall season was almost over since it was already November. As he took a swig from his water bottle, he heard someone called his name. Jerking his head around, he saw Jonghyun waving at him from the stands.
"Yah! Minho-ah!"
He went over to him, seeing the rest of SHINee had also come, along with Ji Eun.
"Hey cousin," she smiled at him when he came over.
"I didn't know you guys were coming," he said to them, not sure if he was glad they came or not.
"There's only a few games left before the season ends for the winter," Jonghyun explained. "I thought it would be good to come 'support you' so I asked the rest of the boys to come. Then I thought about how Ji Eun-sshi was new here so I took the liberty of inviting her." He winked at Minho.
Minho frowned quizzically at him, noticing he was sitting next to Ji Eun. He knew what kind of person his hyung was. He had already had 4 girlfriends since the beginning of the year.
Jonghyun leaned over, whispering in his ear. "Relax, man. Since you aren't actually with her, she's technically available. PLUS, she's hella cute. You wouldn't want some other idiots courting her, I'm just helping you out."
Before Minho could give him what for, Key pointed something out.
"Isn't your blind date tonight after the game?" He asked.
"Ugh," Minho groaned. "Don't remind me."
Ji Eun smiled teasingly at her cousin. "Blind date? Whoa there Minho."
"Yeah, courtesy of this punk," he tilted his head to his left, gesturing at Jonghyun.
"Don't be so negative," Jonghyun said defensively. "She's great."
Minho was once again interrupted, keeping him from retorting. This time, it was by his coach.
"Hey, Choi! Get back over here!"
"Got to go," Minho told his friends, somewhat eager to get away from Jonghyun's loveable yet irritating stupidity.
"Good luck on both your game and your date!" Ji Eun called after him. "Fighting!"
He smiled, jogging back to his team.

Minho stared at the piece of paper in his hand. Jonghyun had given it to him. It said the time and place of his date in messy writing. He checked his watch; it was the right time. Hopefully, he was also at the right place.
He was in a small local restaurant, waiting in a booth at the back of the room. He didn't know why he had agreed to this. Actually he did. He wasn't supposed to like Sulli. He wasn't supposed to think about her all the time. He wasn't supposed to show any feelings towards her. Maybe this blind date would make those lies more convincing.
Freaking Jonghyun. It's not like he wanted a blind date though. Not only that, now his hyung was thinking about courting Ji Eun? Ridiculous. He may not be an overprotective brother, but he stilled wanted what was best for her. Somehow, he doubted it was Jonghyun.
He was woken from his thoughts by someone walking towards his table. Looking up, he was actually curious who this mysterious person was, even if only one girl mattered to him. As she got to the table, he stood up like a gentleman, waiting for her to sit down.
It was Yoona.
*Yoona?* Minho tried not to look too surprised. Why would the most popular, debatably the prettiest, girl
in school go on a blind date with him? Maybe she owed Jonghyun something.
They greeted each other politely before the waitress came to take their orders. She was wearing a slinky black dress, her hair perfectly styled, her face caked with make-up. The look was a bit too showy for Minho's taste.
"I'm a bit surprised it's you, to be honest," Minho confessed. He actually didn't really like Yoona. Since Krystal was friends with her, when they were dating he saw her occasionally. He always found her to be a bit rude and more than a bit self-centred.
Yoona nodded. "I'm surprised too. Jonghyun just said there was a friend he had that he thought would be good for me." Her tone was sweet but Minho could hear an undertone of malice - like a double edged sword.
They spent the rest of their meal eating and talking. Well, Minho did more listening than talking. After two hours, he had found out enough about her that he could probably write her biography.
The end of the date couldn't come fast enough. He had hardly enjoyed himself. Did Jonghyun really think she was his type? Not that it mattered - he wasn't interested in anyone except Sulli. Sulli who was generous, kind and humble.
Yoona hugged Minho when her ride pulled up. She flashed him a condescending smile.
"Honestly Minho... If I had known you were my date, I wouldn't have shown up. I should have known Jonghyun didn't have any friends that were in my league. This was... Interesting... But never call me." She flipped her hair and walked off.
She was being a complete jerk but instead of being hurt or offended, Minho had to keep from laughing out loud.
Jonghyun sure had interesting taste.
This was the same girl that he had said was "great."
"Would I really set you up with a girl who was terrible?"
The irony.

Minho picked up Taemin on Saturday so that they could go meet their hyungs at Key's. While Taemin was being friendly towards him, Minho could sense some tension. As they drove over, Minho told his best friend about his "amazing" date with Yoona.
Taemin chuckled as he told his story. "Leave it to Jonghyun to go for looks over personality. He'd better hope that one of the girls he tries to court just happens to be a sweetheart."
They pulled up at Key's house. Onew, Jonghyun and Key were sitting on the front steps.
"Look it's the youngsters," Jonghyun said teasingly.
"I wouldn't provoke him hyung," Taemin warned. "Minho isn't that happy with you."
Key smacked Jonghyun on the head. "See?! I told you Yoona was a bad choice." He pouted.
Onew, who had been apparently distracted with the air, came back to planet earth. "Whoa Minho-ah, you went on a date with Yoona?"
Minho told them what had happened the previous night. When he finished, everyone except Jonghyun was dying of laughter.
"Good job, babo," Key managed between laughs.
"I think that's the worst date I've ever heard of," Onew added, this time laughing at Minho.
"It's not my fault!" He protested before thinking of something. "Wait... Onew hyung didn't you have a date with Luna this week. How come we aren't hearing about that?"
Onew blushed madly. "We don't need to talk about that."
Everyone laughed again and for a second, despite all of his worries, Minho felt content.
He was with his best friends and they were having a good time.
