Jade Chapter 6

Unworldly Link

Kiwi sat up angrily. “WHAT THE HELL!??” Jade groaned and covered her head with the pillow and screamed into it. She lifted it slightly “Sorry Kiwi…” She got up and went into the living room to find the cat and her phone. Her phone had landed on the hardwood floor and the screen was too cracked to use. Jade found the cat hiding under the kitchen table. “Kiddo, come here… I didn’t mean it!”

Kiwi came into the kitchen and sighed. “You have amazing aim in the morning…” Jade sat cross legged on the floor and stared at the floor. Kiwi could see that she was irritated so the younger girl went back into the living room.

After sitting motionless on the floor for about 20 minutes, she decided that she needed to go get a new phone. She got up and walked back to her room. The rest of the girls were now awake in the living room and watched her walk past and close her bedroom door behind her. They were worried about her.

A little while later she came back out of her room, fully dressed and grabbed her broken phone and her bag and left. The girls looked at each other. Elle rubbed her head “What happened?” Kiwi shrugged. “She got a phone call, yelled at them and then threw the phone out her door. Got a direct hit on Kiddo, he fell on me and her phone broke.”

Jade walked to the bus stop, leaning against the wall and sighed, looking up at the sky. “What is wrong with me… He isn’t real…” She heard someone clear their throat behind her and she about jumped out of her skin. A boy’s voice came from inside the covered bus stop, on the other side of the wall. “Who isn’t real?”

She looked around the wall and she saw a tall boy sitting on the bench. He had blonde hair covering one eye and black streaks in his hair. He was skinny and was wearing a black hoodie, covered in studs and black skinny jeans with chains on them. Jade shook her head. “No body. Don’t worry about it.” She instinctively took out her phone to see the time but sighed when saw a cracked screen instead.

The boy stood up, he was about 8 inches taller than her. He saw her broken phone. “That ! What happened to it?” She stared down the street, hoping the bus would come soon. “I threw it and it hit a cat and then smashed on the floor.” The boy started laughing. “Why did you throw it at a cat?!” She sighed “I got an irritating phone call that woke me up…”

The boy laughed again and held his hand out to her. “I’m Cyrus. It’s nice to meet you.” The bus turned the corner and stopped to let them on. Jade got on first and sat next to this old woman in the front of the bus, hoping the boy would just leave her alone. She wasn’t in the mood to deal with this right now.

Cyrus stood on the bus and held onto the pole next to her. The old woman smiled at the both of them and continued to look out the window. “So what’s your name?” Jade looked out the window, wishing her phone wasn’t broken. “Jade.” He nodded as more people got onto the bus. They walked past him and he got closer to Jade and smiled.

If she was into non-Asian guys, she would think this guy was pretty attractive. He continued talking to her. “So are you going to go get a new phone?” she nodded and saw that her stop was coming up soon. She pulled the cord and stood up to get off. Cyrus grabbed her arm lightly. “Hey, how will I find you again?” She sighed and rolled her eyes. She reached into her bag and grabbed one of the cards for the café and gave it to him. She got off the bus without telling him anything.

She sighed in relief when he didn’t follow her off the bus. She walked a couple blocks and got to the phone store and went inside to replace her phone. She picked out a black iPhone and traded in her broken phone.

She made it back home and everyone was still in the living room. She sat on the couch and stared at the floor. “Sorry for earlier Kiwi. I thought my door was closed.” The youngest girl just smiled at her. Elle looked at her worried. “Why did you throw your phone?”

Jade didn’t want to tell them about her dreams anymore, they were already worried about her. “Oh… Another bill collector for my mom called and woke me up.” The girls nodded. Shelby leaned back on her computer chair. “Did you dream about Eli again?” Jade looked at the floor and shook her head. “No, I didn’t dream about anything…” She wasn’t going to tell them anything about it anymore. She decided right then that she was going to try and keep her dream life and real life separate.

Today was their day off, Jade spent most of the day setting up her phone and adding in the numbers that she could remember. Normally she would be on her computer writing or updating things, but today she stayed off of her computer then whole day.

Around dinner time, Elle and Lizzie went into the kitchen to make something for dinner. Kiwi was staring at Jade who was now just lying on the couch on her stomach, holding onto her phone with her hand on the ground, and staring at the TV.

Kiwi was about to poke her but Lizzie called them into the kitchen to come get their dinner. Jade stayed on the couch and continued to stare at the TV. The girls came back into the room with their plates and stared at her. Elle sighed “Jade! Go get your food!” Jade blinked a couple times and sat up and went into the kitchen to get her food.

She came back out to the living room and sat on the couch and continued to watch the TV and eat as her friends talked to each other. She didn’t notice that they kept looking at her. She ate her food silently and took her plate back to the sink. Her friends were starting to worry about her, a lot.

She smiled at everyone when she came back into the room and slid her shoes and coat on. “Hey, I’m going to go practice for a while. I feel like moving.” Shelby was going to offer her a ride but Jade had already left, leaving the girls very confused.

Jade had been practicing for about 5 hours when Shelby came in and threw a water bottle at her. “What are you doing?” Jade picked up the water and chugged the whole thing. She hadn’t realized it, but she hadn’t drunk anything since dinner. She looked at the younger girl standing in the doorway and sat down on the floor. “I’m practicing.” Shelby walked up to her and bent down in front of her. “You usually spend Sundays on the computer writing or on the web page. You barely spoke or ate all day and you never touched your computer since your outburst this morning. What’s going on?”

The older girl shook her head. “Nothing, I’m fine. I was just sick of my mom’s debt collectors calling me and it put me in a bad mood.” She wasn’t going to tell her that her dreams being interrupted were the real reason. She didn’t want her friends to think she was any crazier. She was usually the sane one. Shelby sighed and stood up and played with her keys in her hand. “I’m going home. You want a ride?” Jade shook her head. “I still have something I want to work on. I will be home later.”

Shelby looked at her worried and nodded “Don’t forget to drink water.” Jade nodded as the younger girl left. She started the music again and kept practicing till she was able to do the choreography without thinking about it. Her mind started to wander and she started thinking about her dreams and the random disappearing. She realized that her mind had put her Eli on Korean time. That’s why they would disappear; they weren’t in sync with the time differences.

She looked at the clock and realized that she had been practicing for about 8 hours. It was now 3 am and she was gross and sweaty. She turned everything off and locked up and went home to shower.

She got home and Shelby was the only one still awake. Lizzie and Elle had to work tomorrow. The younger girl looked up from her computer. “So you finally came home.” Jade laughed a bit and nodded. “Yeah, I need to shower.”

When Jade got out of the shower Shelby was getting ready to go to sleep. Jade the TV and was going to wait to go to bed till around 5 am. That way it would be around 10 pm in Korea.

She finally laid in her bed and was exhausted from practicing so much and staying up so late. She almost instantly fell asleep.

She found herself next to the piano in the trees again. She automatically went towards the building. She opened the door to the brick room and he wasn’t there. She climbed the stairs to the room with the phone and he wasn’t there either. She made it to the top of the stairs and opened the door to the helicopter pad. He wasn’t there either.

She knew that he was going to appear here since he did last time, so she sat down and waited. After a while she got bored and sat on the edge and hung her feet over and stared out at the trees.

Suddenly she was being hugged from behind and pulled away from the edge. “That’s dangerous.” She heard Eli’s now familiar voice whisper in her ear. She smiled and turned to face him. Her heart started racing. She was so glad to see him again. “I’m sorry I disappeared yesterday. I waited so long and then right when you appeared, I got woken up.”

Eli rested his forehead on her shoulder. “I ran down there after you and I couldn’t find you.” Jade wrapped her arms around him “I’m sorry.” Eli smiled and led her to the door to the stairway. He grabbed her hand as he led her down the stairs. “Should we go see if there is food or something in the café?” She smiled and entwined her fingers in his and nodded.

He opened the door for her and searched the cupboards as Jade sat down at the table and watched him with a smile on her face. The cupboards ended up being empty so Eli sat down across from her and smiled. “So, what did you do today?” She laughed and laid down on her arm on the table, looking up at him. “I had to get a new iPhone. I got the black one.”

“You had to?” She nodded. “I got mad when a phone call woke me up and made me disappear and I thought my bedroom door was closed and I threw my phone at it but it was open. It flew out into the living room, hit the cat and the screen broke as it hit the floor…” Eli started laughing really hard. “Is the cat alright?” She laughed and nodded. “He fell off the back of the couch and onto my friend Kiwi who was sleeping on it.” He started laughing even harder and almost fell off his chair.

Jade sighed. “Why do bill collectors always call at the worst times…?” Eli looked at her curiously. “Bill collectors?” She nodded. “My mom borrows money from places and since I’m an adult now, she puts me as her backup contact. She never answers their phone calls. I don’t even live with her.” He nodded. “I see.”

Eli stood up and grabbed her hand. “Come on.” She stood up and followed him down the stairs to the brick room. He sat on the bed and rested his back against the metal bars and pulled her so her back was against him and she was sitting between his legs. He wrapped his arms around her. “I am nervous that you will disappear any moment…” Jade rested against him. “Same here.” She put her hands on his arms.

“So did anything else interesting happen today? Besides pelting a cat with your phone?” Jade laughed. “I took the bus to get my new phone and this guy kept trying to talk to me and flirt with me.” Eli tightened his grip slightly. “What did you do?” She smiled. “I gave him the card to my work. I didn’t even want to talk to him.” Eli put his face against the nape of her neck, sending chills up her spine. “What was his name?” Jade thought for a moment, having Eli holding her like this was making it hard to remember. “Ummm… I think it was Cyrus?”

She could feel him grin against her neck. “You barely remember his name. That’s good. Do you consider yourself my girlfriend when awake too?” She blushed and nodded. He turned her face towards him and kissed her softly on the lips.

He pulled away and smiled at her. She smiled and rested her head back against his shoulder. “I can’t even tell my friends that I dream about you though. I told them yesterday that you asked me out and they think I went insane… Today they kept investigating me, like they think I’m breaking. Throwing my phone at the cat didn’t help my case any.” They both laughed. Eli rested his head on hers. “Dongho and Kiseop are constantly asking me about you. Should we both not talk about our dreams when awake?”

She looked up at him and smiled “The other members know about me?” He laughed and nodded. “It was Dongho who encouraged me to date you.” Jade laughed. “Thank him for me. Tell them all that I am a huge fan.” Eli raised an eyebrow at her. “Of course, you are my favorite.” She said slightly biting her bottom lip.

He smiled and kissed her on the forehead. “That’s good. It would be depressing if my dream girl liked one of the other members more than me.” She smiled and nodded. “I’m more surprised you like me.” He smiled and sighed, resting his chin on her shoulder. “I like you more and more each time we meet.” Hearing that sent butterflies off in her stomach. She reached her hand up and put it on his neck. “UKISS should come to America.” He closed his eyes and nodded.

Jade sat forwards, making Eli lean forwards. She smiled and turned to face him and crawled next to him on the bed and laid down with her head by the pillows. He got the hint and laid down on his side, resting his head on his arm, facing her. She got into the same position and looked into his eyes, smiling. “So what did you do today?” Eli smiled back. “It was Kevin’s birthday but we are in Japan so we had a small cake with just the members and stuff.”

She nodded “Tell him happy birthday for me.” He laughed “I don’t know what he would say to that.” He reached out and pulled her closer to him. He rested his hand on her waist. “I want to sleep next to you but if I close my eyes too long, you might disappear.” She smiled and touched his cheek. “I don’t want to disappear.”

He smiled and closed his eyes and disappeared. Jade’s hand fell onto the mattress. She laughed a bit and rolled onto her back. “Of course.” She lifted the hand that was on his cheek up into the air and studied it, smiling.

Suddenly her face was being poked. She opened her eyes and Kiddo was pawing at her face. She laughed at the cat and shooed him away. She looked to see what time it was and it was about 1 pm, 6 am in Korea. She smiled at figuring out how to spend more time with her dream Eli.
