EDITED

Jessica snapped her head to her right in the speed of light and looked at the girl beside her with eyes wide-open and sweating hands trembling. Hyoyeon's words kept replaying in her mind like a broken record player. The very words that she had been longing to hear had finally been spoken but she didn't feel ecstatic or full of joy. Instead, she felt scared; afraid. Hyoyeon kept looking forward with a calm and collected expression. Such sight made Jessica feel even more nervous. Why isn't she tripping out or filled with joy? Why is she just… just standing there with nothing on her face?

Minutes past and Jessica's eyes never left the body that stood beside her but just as she was about to speak confused words, Hyoyeon smiled. She looked down to her feet and continued to smile and without knowledge, Jessica smiled as well. It was as if all of the insecurity she felt before vanished at the sight of Hyoyeon's lips curving. She glanced back up at the stars and thanked whoever was watching over her for allowing her to have a chance with this girl she loved. Hyoyeon looked at Jessica with eyes that had no expression but her face said something else.

"Let's go back. It's getting late," Hyoyeon spoke softly.

Assuming Jessica would be right behind her, Hyoyeon went down the hill without waiting. Jessica said nothing and followed. She consistently stayed four steps behind Hyoyeon. Her thoughts kept filling up her brain. She stared at the arms that Hyoyeon kept in her hoodie pocket. She stared with such intensity that lasers could form and bore a hole into the latter's arm. Should I? Jessica contemplated on whether or not she should slide her left hand into the right side of Hyoyeon's pocket and intertwine their fingers. She implied that she likes me back, so it should be okay… right? Her eyebrows furrowed at the important decision taking place in her brain. She looked around and noticed that they only had two more blocks until they reached home. Just do it, Jessica. It's now or never. She hastened her pace and caught up to her. Hyoyeon didn't seem to notice Jessica's new position and kept her eyes on the road. Jessica slipped her left hand into Hyoyeon's pocket and quickly intertwined her fingers with Hyoyeon's.

Surprised at the sudden foreign hand in her pocket Hyoyeon looked at her with a confused expression. Jessica just kept her gaze forward and focused on the road while her cheeks flourished a pink color. Hyoyeon looked back at the pocket that contained Jessica's hand.  This is weird. What is she trying to do? She was confused beyond measure. Her hand is so cold. I'll just let it stay in here until we get home. There was a strange feeling building inside and Hyoyeon wasn't sure if she liked it. It was so foreign and obscure to her.

A few minutes past and the two of them reach home. Hyoyeon pulled her hands out of her hoodie pocket and stuck them in her jean pockets. She fiddled around but she couldn't find the keys that opened their house and it struck her. Damn, I forgot it on the kitchen counter when I headed for the park. She frowned. Jessica looked at her and giggled at the slightly sad expression Hyoyeon had on her face. Her hand went into her right pocket and took out Hyoyeon's keys she took from the counter. She picked the house key and opened the door. They both went in and saw the deserted living room.

Hyoyeon took a deep breath and went to her room with Jessica trailing behind. She headed for her side of the closet and went straight to the bathroom after grabbing a change of clothes. Jessica stood in the middle of her room thinking about the lack of interactions between them.  She confess to me right? Or was I just imagining again? She shook the thought away and began to unpack her belongings.

The bathroom door opened and an exhausted, mentally drained dancer walked out heading back to her room. She opened their door and saw Jessica wearing cotton short shorts and a loose fitted shirt. Even though she saw such a sight a thousand times, an unfamiliar feeling grew from the center of her chest. I don't like this. I need to get this feeling away. Hyoyeon quickly went to her closet, grabbed a blanket, turned around and grabbed her pillow off the bed. Almost successful in getting past the door frame Jessica crushed her hopes and spoke.

"Where are you going?" her voice full of confusion.

Quick, make up an excuse. Hyoyeon thought. "You need to unpack and I won't be able to sleep while you do, so I'm going to sleep on the couch."

"Oh. It's okay. I'll just stop and continue tomorrow then," Jessica put her clothes back down.

"NO! I mean, it's okay. Just finish it tonight so you don't have to worry about it tomorrow. I'll be fine. Good night!" Hyoyeon hastily said and left for the living after closing the door.

Phew. That was close. Hyoyeon set up the couch for the night. Even though she confessed her attraction towards Jessica the feelings that came along with the package, she was unaware of. She lay down and pulled her blanket over herself. Her eyes stared at the now pitch black living room ceiling, looking for some answers. Love was not a topic she ever graced upon. The bed and everything that revolved around it, she knew inside and out but never did she imagine she would garner attraction towards someone, let alone someone of the same . Hyoyeon closed her tired eyes in an attempt to get some sleep but her heart was screaming at her, forcing her to stay awake. She took a deep breath as the sudden pain in her heart kept her up. What the hell is going on? Why am I suddenly going through all this?

Jessica dropped her clothes on the floor and sat at the edge of the bed in defeat. She stared at the same door Hyoyeon walked out of in confusion. She couldn't understand what was going on between them. The same feeling of insecurity and doubt she had when Hyoyeon confessed surfaced again. Her fear of the worst began to form. Is it too good to be true? You won't leave me hanging on your words will you?  The piles of clothes lying on the floor called out for her in the need to be organized and put accordingly. Giving into the call of laundry, Jessica drowned her confusion into unpacking the rest of her luggage. You said you liked me, so where are you now when I need you more than ever?

***

The sun rose and its rays shinned through the curtains waking up the girl sleeping on the couch. Hyoyeon slowly sat up and stretched her arms while glancing around her surroundings. That's right, I slept on the couch. She got up and went straight to the bathroom to brush her smelly mouth. On the way into the bathroom, Sooyoung came out of her room with messy bed hair and squinted eyes. She saw the sleep deprived eyes of the shorter girl and instantly became concerned. She walked over and looked at her in worry.

"What's wrong, Hyo?" She said sleepily.

"Let's talk about it over some breakfast. I don't really want to be in this house right now. It's too… weird," Hyoyeon yawned and walked in.

"Umm… okay?" Sooyoung walked in and sat on the toilet.

"Soo, I'm brushing my teeth," she complained tiredly.

"So?" She rubbed her eyes as she peed. "It's not like you haven't seen me ," she shrugged.

"Still!" Hyoyeon sighed," where do you want to eat?"

"Ehh, let's just go to Taeyeon's place before work. I don't feel like paying," Sooyoung pulled her pants up.

"Okay. Sounds good," she rinsed , "we'll leave in ten."

Hyoyeon left the bathroom and slowly crept inside her bedroom. There she saw a sprawled out brunette who wasn't correctly placed under the covers. The blankets were pushed aside and Jessica lay on her side of the bed, back facing upwards while her head faced the right. Hyoyeon sighed at the relief the ice princess received some sleep but was unsettled by the fact that she was shivering. Were you that tired that you forgot to cover yourself? She made her way to the other side of the bed and pulled the blankets over her accordingly, making sure that no body part was further exposed to the cold weather. A smiled crept on her lips as she noticed that Jessica was no longer shivering. She went back to the closet and got changed.

Too lazy to drive her own car and too tired to try, Hyoyeon hopped on the back of Sooyoung's motorcycle. Sooyoung awakened her vehicle and rode off towards Taeyeon's restaurant. She had many questions to ask of the girl hugging her from behind but she kept quiet until they arrived. Minutes later Sooyoung parked and the two of them got off. They walked towards the entrance and were greeted by a very familiar eye smile full of sunshine and daisies. Sooyoung smiled back at her while Hyoyeon remained oblivious to her surroundings.

"Morning Sunny!" Sooyoung greeted.

"Morning Soo. What's wrong with her?" Sunny looked at Hyoyeon.

"I'm not sure but we're going to talk about it over some delicious food," she batted her eyes and smiled wildly.

Sunny giggled, "Alright. I'll go tell, Tae. What do you want to eat?" She asked.

"Surprise us."

"Okay. Just go sit somewhere," Sunny wrote something on her notepad and walked to the kitchen.

"Come on, Hyo. Let's go," she lightly pulled Hyoyeon's arm towards a table seated for two. "So what's wrong?"

"I uhh..." Hyoyeon looked up, "I don't know where to start." She fiddled with her fingers.

"Just start with the first thing that pops into your head," Sooyoung crossed her arms and leaned on the table.

"That’s just it. There's too much popping into my head at once," she brought her hands up and massaged her temples.

"Well, I can tell you didn't get much sleep. Why is that?"

"Sica."

"Why what happened between the two of you?" her voice sound more alarmed.

"I had too much going on in my brain so I went to the park to think but then she suddenly showed up. What makes it even weirder is that she showed up right at the moment when I figured out a lot of things," she sighed, "next thing I knew I ended up confessing." She pouted.

"YOU WHAT?!?!" Sooyoung shot up like a rocket and looked at Hyoyeon with an amazed expression.

"SHHH! Shut up!" Hyoyeon covered Sooyung's mouth and pulled her back down while apologizing to everyone else in the restaurant.

Just then Sunny walked over with their plates of food. "What's going on? Why'd you suddenly yell?" She placed

Chapter 50: WHY IS THIS SO GOOD? I know why, because you are an amazing writer who only gets better with each chapter and your progression of the story was very much more believable than most stories in which "they got together after first sight". You developed the characters and gave them their flaws and their strengths and how that translated into the story was amazing. It looks like Punch could be an entire spinoff/sequel story on its own, but I feel content with you not doing a sequel and that's a good thing. Its one thing to leave your readers wanting more, but to do that AND make them feel content without more is a weird paradox you accomplished. Your writing style is not the most sophisticated or fancy, but its one that allows for many readers to enjoy simply, but has enough complexity to make it leave no questions unanswered. I loved this story and can't wait to read more from you
