EDITED

Hyoyeon froze up. Her ears perked up from the very words whispered out of Jessica’s mouth. Chills went through her entire body leaving her finger tips cold and her feet tingling. What am I feeling? This… I don’t understand this. Why is this different? She saw Jessica’s sinister smile in the corner of her eyes and felt another wave of chills throughout her body.

Jessica leaned back and smiled. Hyoyeon felt a little disappointed but continued to look at her puzzled. Jessica tried her best to contain her feelings but the urge to burst could no longer be held back.

“BAHAHA!” she fell to the floor laughing uncontrollably at Hyoyeon’s current state.

Hyoyeon blinked rapidly attempting to process what just happened. She snapped out of her daze and felt anger rise up. “Yah! What the hell was that about!?”

“Oh my god.” She spoke in English. “The look on your face… priceless… Way too funny!”

“Yahh!!” Hyoyeon slapped the girl’s arm.

“Owww! That hurt!” Jessica rubbed her arm and looked up at her pouting while holding her laugh.

“You deserved it! What kind of prank is that?!” Hyoyeon crossed her arms, embarrassed because she actually believed her.

“It was just WAYY to tempting! Oh come on!” she stood back up.

“Whatever! You can go to your rehearsal yourself! I’m going home!”

Hyoyeon grabbed her crutches leaning on the wall and crutched her way out of the office. Her heart felt uneasy. Jessica’s prank wasn’t the source of her frustration but rather the feelings that lingered after it. She made her way out of the building until Jessica caught her.

“Yah! Where do you think you’re going like that?!” she grabbed Hyoyeon’s arm.

“Home! Where else!” Hyoyeon looked at the ground afraid of looking at Jessica.

“Okay okay! I’m sorry! I shouldn’t have done that! Now let me take you home,” she let go.

Hyoyeon didn’t respond. Instead, she limped to Jessica’s passenger side door not looking at her in the process. She didn’t want to crutch her way home. Jessica was content at Hyoyeon’s subordination and skipped to the driver seat. She unlocked the door and Hyoyeon slowly got into the passenger side struggling a little bit along the way.

The ride was quiet and awkward. Hyoyeon wasn’t such a big fan of the atmosphere but there was too much going on in her mind for her to engage in a mindless conversation. Her thoughts consisted of solely Jessica and why she made her feel so strange. Many possibilities wiggling into her brain causing even more confusion but for now, she decided to shove it aside and label it as “Getting used to being nice”.

Jessica had her own struggles. She was rewinding her actions back to the words she whispered into Hyoyeon’s ear. Though she spoke of the truth she didn’t mean for Hyoyeon to believe it as real. The few seconds replayed on their way home like her brain was projecting it onto her windshield. She regretted it but now there’s nothing else she could do to take it back since it happened already.

They arrived home and saw Taeyeon and Sunny hurriedly leaving the driveway heading somewhere. It was a Friday and Hyoyeon figured they were going to the restaurant for the rest of the day. She opened the door, pulled her crutches out first and pushed herself up leaning on the door for support. Jessica got her keys out and opened the front door for her. Hyoyeon smiled and went in. Why is she smiling at me? I thought she was mad? Jessica closed the door and went to the couch. Hyoyeon followed.

“Shouldn’t you go get ready for your musical rehearsal?” Hyoyeon plopped down beside her.

“I’ll do that in thirty,” she grabbed the remote, “are you coming with me?” her eyes still staring at the TV.

“Ehhh. It’s a hassle for me to since I’m crippled but I’ll come if you want me to,” Hyoyeon shrugged.

“Well if you stay home there’s no one to take care of you. Sooyoung went off to Tiff’s work place since they offered her a job in modeling, plus Sunny and Taeyeon are probably at their restaurant.”

“There’s nothing really for you to take care of though. It’s not like my arms are broken and I can’t feed myself,” she chuckled.

“True but you should come anyways. I want you to.” Jessica smiled.

“Well you could have said that in the first place instead of drag it out with lame excuses.” Hyoyeon snickered.

“Yeah yeah yeah. Want some fruit?”

“Sure.”

Jessica got up to go to the fridge but she just used that as an excuse since she didn’t know what else to say in that awkward situation. She was embarrassed to say that she wanted her to come. She opened the fridge, grabbed two apples, a knife, and a cutting board bringing it back to Hyoyeon. Hyoyeon looked at her with a tilted head and Jessica responded with a bright smile handing her the apples.

“Seriously?”

“I’m lazy,” Jessica shrugged.

“Fine,” Hyoyeon sighed.

Hyoyeon grabbed the apples from her roughly and pulled the knife up to her face revealing an evil grin. She had something up her sleeves but before she could execute it, Jessica rolled her eyes.

“Whatever you’re up to, don’t even think about it.”

“Joy killer.” Hyoyeon frowned and continued to peel the apples.

She finished peeling the apples and cut them into pieces. She put the plate on the coffee table but Jessica just opened keeping her eyes glued to the drama that was currently on.

“Really?”

She kept open waiting for Hyoyeon to feed her. Hyoyeon just sighed and fed her a slice.

“It amazes me how lazy you are. How do you manage to go to rehearsal everyday with that kind of mentality?” she fed her another slice.

“Simple,” she chewed and swallowed, “I tell myself I get to stare at you for another six hours every day.”

Hyoyeon sat there staring at Jessica with amazement and confusion at the same time. She felt her heart being tickled by the words and it was strange. Jessica noticed that another piece of fruit was not fed to so she turned her head and looked at Hyoyeon. She saw the emotionless expression worn on her face and waved her hands in front of her. Hyoyeon blinked a few times and resumed feeding.

“Woops. Here,” she brought a piece to .

Jessica ate it happily. Minutes passed and Hyoyeon looked at the clock which read

Chapter 50: WHY IS THIS SO GOOD? I know why, because you are an amazing writer who only gets better with each chapter and your progression of the story was very much more believable than most stories in which "they got together after first sight". You developed the characters and gave them their flaws and their strengths and how that translated into the story was amazing. It looks like Punch could be an entire spinoff/sequel story on its own, but I feel content with you not doing a sequel and that's a good thing. Its one thing to leave your readers wanting more, but to do that AND make them feel content without more is a weird paradox you accomplished. Your writing style is not the most sophisticated or fancy, but its one that allows for many readers to enjoy simply, but has enough complexity to make it leave no questions unanswered. I loved this story and can't wait to read more from you
