The jazz club

Naughty Kiss

“Go Ji Eun,” He finally said. “You’re playing a dangerous game.”

What did he mean by that? Did it mean he liked it or did he dislike it? Why would he never say anything that made sense? I could never foresee what he was thinking and right now it was really annoying.

“Dangerous ho-?” I began when his phone rang. This was a first. Usually I was the one whose phone always went off when we were having a conversation. Kai looked at the caller Id, which I peaked at and saw the name Krystal. I didn’t know any Krystal at school so it was probably someone he knew from elsewhere. By the sound of the name she was  probably a foreigner too. Who was she?

Kai pressed the ignore button.

“Let’s go out”, he said.

“What?” I blurted out, surprised at what he’d said and low key thinking I heard him wrong.

“Come on”, he got up. “Don’t tell me you’re going to bed after putting in all work to look like that.” No, I hadn’t heard it wrong. Kai wanted to go out with me. And he also noticed how cute I looked.

I was wearing a striped white and black culottes jumpsuit with thin arms, a pair of white sneakers and my hair was parted on the side showing off my small hoop earrings on the right half of my face. I was wearing very light makeup but enough so I’d looked dolled up. I even painted my nails. To believe I did all that because I was so excited to see Chen since I hadn’t in so long and here I was and Kai was the one noticing it.

When Kai stretched his arm to me, I didn’t hesitate to grab it.

Later

We were sitting on the subway. Where to? I had no idea. Kai was seating in front of me and I was very aware that he was looking at me. Actually it wasn’t really looking, it was more of a watching and observe kind of thing. My way of avoiding him was by looking outside the window and think deeply about the situation I was in.

This was the first time ever that Kai and I were going out together, by ourselves. Never had I thought this day would come yet here I was sitting in front of him. And him? He was still looking at me.

“You need to stop doing that”, I said when his staring got too overwhelming.

“Doing what?” He asked.

“You always stare at me when we are together and you never say anything”, I pointed out. ”It’s kind of creepy. Cute but creepy.”

“I’m not a man of many words”, he said. Kai corrected his position and looked outside the window instead. I smiled at how he looked like he was embarrassed.

We finally reached our destination and left the subway. I followed him wondering where he was taking me. We had been walking around under the city lights for a while now and my limbs where already tired.

“Where are we going?”

“You’ll see”, he said. I don’t know how many corners we passed but eventually it started raining. Kai grabbed my hand and we ran for cover. We ended up in the end of an alley where music was coming from a closed door.

“What is this place?” I asked.

“I don’t know but let’s just take a sit there until the rain stops”, he said and opened the door. We were hit by darkness, loud voices containing laughter, music, glasses clinging and literally everything I was not expecting from where this restaurant / bar / pub or whatever it was was located.

“This is great”, I said.

“Maybe we should leave”, Kai said at the same time. We both looked at each other.

“No way”, I shook my head. “We’re staying.”

This time I grabbed his hand and pulled him inside. I took him to the bar that was full with people. Gorgeous looking people that didn’t look like they were from Seoul. They all had different styles then what was popular in town. It was almost as if I was back in a 20’s movie or something.

In the background a live band was playing on stage with some soul and life in their bodies. And in the middle stood a beautiful tall woman with long dark hair and lips so red they looked like fresh blood. She was enticing and her voice was entrancing.

“What can I get y-?” A cute guy with big doe eyes and a bright smile spoke. “You’re new here.” I simply smiled. It was very obvious this place was for young adults so I had to act “grown up”.

“Two stouts please”, I ordered. The bartender smirked.

“The lady drinks beer”, he said. “If I may ask, how old are you?”

“Old enough”, I answered and stood ground. He let out a laugh and almost made me lose my facade. I had to hold myself together to not laugh at how ridiculous I sounded. I mean, who was this person speaking back to that bartender? Cause it was surely not me.

“Fair enough”, he gave in and filled in two glasses. “ If someone asks though I didn’t give you this.” I smiled and took the beers when he handed them to me. “On the House.” He winked. I took a sip of my drink and turned to Kai to hand him his. Kai was looking at me with a stunned look.

“What?” I asked like I didn’t know I just flirted to get a free drink.

“You never cease to surprise me”, he said. I shook my shoulders and we went on a seat hunt. We managed to find a small table near the back of the room. We were able to see everything that was going on from the dance floor in the front of the stage, to the bar and finally the tables that where filled with liveliness.

“If someone’d tell me one year ago that I would be sitting in this place with you Go Ji eun”, Kai spoke loudly then he ever did so I could hear him over the music, “I wouldn’t have believed them.”

“Neither would I”, I answered. “But here we are.”

“Here we are”, he took a sip of his drink.

“So tell me”, I began. “How was France? We never really spoke about it.”

“It was good. Lots of sun, food, parties and new people.”  At the mention of parties and people I remembered the girl who’d called earlier. Krystal. Had he hung out with her at one of these so called parties? “And you? How was it here?”

“It was great”, I began. “I partied a lot, made new friends and almost got arrested.”

“Almost got arrested?” He asked. I immediately cleared my throat. This was a story he needed to hear.

And so I began telling him about summer and the new friends I made. Then I told him about Kris’s ideas and how we’d get in trouble for going along with them. Kai listened to it all and would laugh at the funny bits and shake his head at the ridiculous parts.

“My summer was completely boring compared to yours”, he said when I was done.

“How come?”  I waited for his answer but he was still deep in his thoughts.

“I just missed home a lot”, he finally answered.

“Interesting. I didn’t see you as a home loving type of guy.”

“I’m not”, he looked down on his drink. “I... just missed home, is all.”  He nervously looked at me. I simply smiled back to let him know I wasn’t judging him in anyway and that I understood.

Three hours and many drinks later, Kai and I were pretty much drunk. We had been laughing and talking about literally everything on and beyond plane eartht.

“She likes them young, she said.”

“No way!” I laughed. “She said that?” Kai nodded. He was explaining about an incident that happened in Paris at an event where an older woman was trying to buy him for a night.

“It was the craziest thing”, he continued. “Everyone was telling her I was underage but she didn’t care.”

“Wow, Kai.”, I sighed. “Aren’t you popular?” He shook his head in disagreement. “I better watch out and step my game up. I don’t think I can compete with the cougars.”

“You have nothing to worry about”, he smiled. What he said took me aback. I had nothing to worry about? What did he mean by that? Did he mean nothing to worry about in general or only when it came to the cougars? “I wanted to ask you something.”

“Shoot!” I emptied my current glass.

“How come we’re not friends on social media?” He asked looking all serious. I let out a baffled chuckle. “I don’t have Facebook so it doesn’t matter but you’re not following me on Instagram.” Had Kai forgotten what happened junior year or was he just joking around?

“You blocked me on Instagram, remember?”

“No I didn’t.” He pulled out his phone, opened the app and showed me his blocked list which consisted of maybe hundreds and hundreds of accounts. I had never seen a list this long before. “Wait, you won’t find anything there.”

Instead he went to the discover page and typed my Instagram name which was Gojeunie and my posts where shown. The latest was a post with Min Ho and Mrs. Kim. He was right. A blocked account would have 0 posts put up. “See?” Oh wow, this was unexpected. So Kai had unblocked me and he knew my Instagram account name? Wait a minute!

“Have you been stalking my account without following me?” I asked accusingly.

“No”, he answered way too quickly.

“Jong In ah”, I gasped. “I so caught you!”

“Okay fine”, he admitted. “When I was away I’d sometimes take a look when I really missed everyone."

“Everyone?” I narrowed my eyes. The only person from home that was often on my Instagram was Min Ho and that was barely. Only recently did I put up Mrs. Kim. “It’s only photos of me and my friends. Only sometimes am I guested by Min Ho.” Kai grabbed his drink and emptied it in a few seconds making me laugh. “Just admit you missed me." Kai nervously tapped his empty bottle. "There’s no shame in it. I missed you.”

“I didn’t miss you”, he retorted. “I did miss your crazy antics a little. Summer was boring.” I couldn’t help but blush, smile and feel wonderful inside.

“See?” I said. “Your boring self needs me.” He shook his head and looked at everything else but me, leaving me laughing again.

Later

The music had gone from slow jams to a full on swings fest. I couldn’t help but tap my foot and shake my head to the beat. I looked around and saw people get up, most of them where duos consisting of a male and a female. They where all jumping, moving and just enjoying themselves. I gave Kai a look that told him I wanted to join the dance floor. He immediately shook his head.

“I am not dancing”, he refused.

“Oh come on”, I pouted. “We’ve been sitting here talking for hours. I need to move my feet.” He stood his ground but I wasn’t taking no for an answer. I channeled my inner Mrs Kim, got up, gave him my hand and said, “We’re dancing.”

Kai heaved out but took my hand. My entire body and my feet especially was in sync with the music as I led him to the dance floor. Before I could even blink, Kai had taken lead and was swinging me around. He was moving his feet in a manner I had never seen before and his entire body was moving to the beat.

“I thought you wanted to dance”, he taunted me.

“It’s like that, huh?” I asked jokingly. “Game on!” I held the back of his shoulder with one arm and the other’s fingers where intertwined in his. We moved together as one, jumping around, kicking our legs, swiveling, me shaking my hips. All of it with a smile on our faces and laughter when we would accidentally bump into each other.

As I was dancing, I came to realise that this moment right now was probably the best I had ever felt in my life. I felt so free and like I could do anything I wanted to. This place, whatever it was called was like the heaven I didn’t know I was looking for.

When the music slowed down, Kai put one arm around my waist and pulled me so close to him I could barely move my feet properly without stepping on his. The both of us where breathing heavily and our bodies where sweaty. Being this close to him, made me want to stand on my toes so I could reach and kiss him. It made me want to snuggle up to him and never leave his side. Of course I didn’t do neither of that, I just leaned my head against his chest, closed my eyes and breathed in him.

Eventually the music stopped, people started clapping and I had to let go. We went back to facing each other at our table. We where both acting pretty timidly and were barely even looking at each other.

“I didn’t know you could dance like that”, I began.

“Neither did I you”, he smiled. In search of what time it was, I grabbed my phone but iit was dead. Instead I took his phone from the table and turned the screen on. It was a bit over one am. I also saw something else. 3 missed calls from Krystal. The phone began vibrating. It was another call from her.

“Krystal is c-“ I began. Kai literally grabbed the phone out of my hand. Instead of answering he awkwardly turned his phone off and put it in his pocket. When I lifted my eyes from his pocket towards him, he was already looking at me.

“It’s not important”, he explained with an awkward smile.

“She called you three times”, I said. “Maybe you should call her back.” When Kai didn’t reply, curiosity got the best of me. “So who is this Krystal? Is it a girl you met in Paris?” His demeanor completely changed. I could tell his coldness coming out.

“Okay”, he said. “Let’s make a deal. You don’t ask me about Krystal and I won’t ask you about Chen.” I frowned. Where was this coming from? What did Chen have to do with Krystal? Unless... Was Krystal to him what Chen was to me?

“You and her”, I began. I felt my heart racing and my stomach turning. “Did you da-“

“Don’t ask questions whose answers you can’t handle”, he said. “I didn’t ask you anything about your summer with Chen or the night you spent with him.”

“Excuse me?” I asked. Why was he attacking me all of a sudden? “You can’t be angry with me in regards of Chen.”

“I never said I was”, he said.

“You don’t have to say it”, I retorted. Could it be he was jealous? Cause honestly that’s what he sounded like, a jealous boyfriend who was bothered I spent time with another boy. “I can smell the jealousy coming from right where you’re sitting.” He shook his head.

“Jealous?” He asked. “You’re the one who’s jealous about Krystal when I already told you she’s not important.”

“Well of course I am!” I yelled in rage. “I’m in love with you. Any girl that is around you is always better looking and smarter than me. How can I not be jealous when yet another girl shows up and keeps calling your phone?” I sighed in frustration. “I can’t compete with all these girls.”

The last thing I said was more to myself than him. It did hurt that Kai made me so unsure and insecure of myself that I couldn’t help but compare myself with his female friends. I always had this thought in the back of my mind: Why would Kai ever be interested in me when he was surrounded by all these amazing girls? I mean we weren’t even together and I could barely handle it.

I sighed in frustration as my hand ran through my hair and got up.

“I want to go home”, I said before leaving.

Outside it was still raining but only a little. I leaned against the wall and looked up towards the sign that hung above the door. It stood ‘Jerry’s Swing and Jazz’. I don’t know how many minutes passed but when the door opened, a few people went out. They were all laughing and seemed genuinely happy.

I watched them walk down the street and disappear into a corner. I was so caught up in watching them, I missed the fact that Kai had also come out. He was standing there, a few steps away from me with his head down. When he eventually looked up, he took a few steps until he stood right before me.

The first thing he did was trace his fingers on my arms and eventually intertwining his fingers to mine. Shivers ran through me as he would sometimes go over the back of my hand with his thumb.

“I told you”, he said softly. “You have nothing to worry about.” He slightly touched my chin and tilted my head so I’d look up at him. The only light source in the tiny street came from a window above the both of us. Yet, I was able to clearly see how his eyes where twinkling.

“Not about Krystal?” I asked just to make sure we were on the same page.

“No”, he said. His fingers where still in mine.

“Not about the old lady?” I continued. He shook his head. “And the girl you went on a date with in Osaka?”

“Not about anyone”, he said. I felt relief. Kai was actually telling me that he didn’t care for anyone I saw as competition. In pure glee, I went up on my toes and kissed him. I felt his hands and fingers tense up and relax in a few seconds.

This time, Kai was kissing me back and it felt amazing. The endorphins where rushing through my body at a high rate, my heart was racing, my stomach was fuzzy and I only wanted more but Kai groaned and stopped the kiss. His perfect hair was hovering over his forehead and he was panting hard.

“Go Ji Eun, you are so...” He stopped himself. “I don’t think I can handle what you’re doing to me.”

A/N

Oh look another update! I just decided to upload this due to some being a little confused in the comments. By dangerous game, Kai means she's playing with fire. See Kai is uncertain of how he feels for Ji Eun and to him, her kissing him might end up in her getting hurt again like what happened when he kissed her during that dinner.

Reply to your comments:

@Baemin : "If it's the chapter where Kai and Ji Eun went on a 'date' at the movies and everything then yes this is kind of it but I made a lot of changes and kind of dragged all the happenings there and after into a more chapters just to not rush things. I know its not the same as before but I hope you like it. Look forward to upcoming episodes."

@superpaupular  : "Chen has a full schedule with idol promotions. Exo is currently getting bigger and bigger in the story and you guys know how busy idols get. They barely have time to sleep."

@lumyung  : "Hahaha! That would have been funny."
