Chapter 22
Champagne GasolineHappy New Year guys! <3
Sorry, this chapter is kind of terrible
Hoseok snorts too loudly gaining a bit of attention from the people nearby as he hides his laughing face while Minhyuk is giggling loudly.
“I…I can’t believe you…did that,” Hoseok says in between his laughs as slowly tears drip down his face which he hastily wipes off.
“He deserved it that absolute dickwad,” Minhyuk says on the straw of his bubble tea. “He was sleeping with 3 of my sisters’ best friends”
“What a jerk,”
“Yeah so, of course, I had to put rotten eggs in his car,” Minhyuk. “I swear my sister had never been more proud of me”
Hoseok laughs again as Minhyuk grins.
Something has changed between them after their ‘heart to heart’ conversation at the café a week ago. Hoseok has grown to enjoy Minhyuk’s company a lot more now. He can always make Hoseok laugh with his crazy anecdotes about things he did throughout high school and two years of Uni.
“I was a wild child let me tell you that,” he would say. “Well I still am”
Hoseok likes Minhyuk a lot now to consider him a great friend as well. They are practically inseparable during their shift in the coffee shop and they always go out to drink coffee or bubble tea after finishing their work talking about their day...actually Minhyuk does most of the talking while Hoseok listens nodding and laughing but he has no complaints. Minhyuk really helps him take his mind off everything.
Hoseok checks his phone.
“It’s already 10:30 pm ,” Hoseok says.
“What? We have been here for over an hour,” Minhyuk says surprised.
“Yeah, I guess,” Hoseok says. “But we gotta go I have some papers due tomorrow”
“Of course sure,” Minhyuk says as they leave the shop and walk home together.
Walking home together is one of the rare times Minhyuk doesn’t talk much or rather doesn’t talk at all keeping quiet as they walk in the empty dark streets hands tucked in their pockets. Hoseok catches Minhyuk staring at him twice but he looks away almost immediately when Hoseok looks at him.
When they reach the intersection Minhyuk waves him goodbye.
“See you tomorrow Hoseokie,” he says.
“Bye Minhyuk,”
They walk off to opposite ends and for whatever reason Hoseok looks back and Minhyuk is looking back at him too, soon a smile spreads across Minhyuk’s face and Hoseok slowly smiles back.
Days for Hoseok pass like leaves falling off a tree slowly. Still, most days Hoseok can barely get off the bed some days he still cries himself to sleep, some days the fluffy blanket doesn’t provide enough warmth, some days he looks at pictures of Taehyung and it hurts to see him standing with Seungwan their arms linked together. Taehyung never smiles in the pictures. His lips are always drawn into a thin straight line his eyes devoid of any expression.
Maybe Taehyung is just nervous in front of cameras Hoseok thinks.
But Hoseok is getting better at least he likes to think he is.
He takes an effort to shower most days, goes to work, studies, and cooks for them even and even Yoongi seems happy with Hoseok’s progress though he doesn’t say it out loud.
It’s not that Hoseok is suddenly okay and happy. He misses Taehyung just as much but he is trying to live just like Taehyung is living his life of bling glitz and glamour. Hoseok doesn’t think he will ever stop loving Taehyung but he knows that no matter how many tears he lets fall Taehyung is never going to come back.
And it’s time Hoseok thinks that he learns to live with that.
“You’re an awfully secretive person you know,” Minhyuk says.
Hoseok looks up from his bowl of soup.
“Huh,”
“You barely ever talk about yourself,” Minhyuk says. “While I keep going on and on about myself”
“Oh,”
“You know so much about me,” he says. “Yet I barely know anything about you”
That’s true Hoseok thinks. He has barely even told Minhyuk anything about himself; just stuff here and there nothing that he wouldn’t tell a stranger he met and talked to on a long train ride.
“I uh…,”
“I mean I get it not everyone is as annoying as I am,” Minhyuk says. “But I would like to know more about you”
“Like what?”
“I don’t know…just anything,” Minhyuk says. “I don’t have to always be the one talking”
“I don’t have anything to say,” Hoseok says hesitantly.
Minhyuk simply rolls his eyes.
“Lets’ start with why you are so obsessed with reading these magazines,” Minhyuk says looking at the magazine lying next to Hoseok. “Seriously I never see you without one”
Hoseok grabs it shoving it in his bag. He was reading about the supposed wedding gown Seungwan was wearing and what the fashion critics think about her alleged choice.
“I uh I like to keep up with um trends” Hoseok lies. In reality, he just reads them for any kind of news about the wedding…the probable location of the wedding, the decorators, the bakers…Hoseok never realized how invested people were in celebrity weddings before.
Minhyuk laughs a little.
“See you are making progress already,” he says and Hoseok smiles feeling guilty that he lied.
Hoseok goes back to his soup.
“So, what are you gonna do when you get back home?” Minhyuk asks.
“Go to sleep,” Hoseok answers him. “My roommate and I watch anime together but he is out of town today so I am just gonna go sleep”
“Oh,”
“What will you do?” Hoseok asks.
“I have a house party to go to,”
“Well, have fun,” Hoseok says as he finishes his soup bowl. He feels full already.
“Hey, Hoseok,”
“Yeah,”
“Since you are home alone tonight…would you like to come to the party with me?” Minhyuk asks.
Hoseok thinks for an entire minute if it is worth losing sleep over and how he doesn’t even know where they are going and what
