No One’s POV

Jessica sighs as she plopped her head on the cushion couch twirling her phone. This week had been hectic for her considering that she works overtime for her new job so she could earn more. But fortunately, today it was her off-day and she couldn’t decide what to do with her life. Of course, being the Jessica Jung she is, she would sleep the entire day but when she wakes up, there would be nothing to eat because she her fridge is practically empty and she hadn’t had that much time to go grocery shopping.

“Oh god, my body hurts”

Jessica mumbled slightly arching her back and straightening her arms out. Suddenly her phone beeped indicating a text. She stared at it and it came from her best friend, Tiffany who told her that there’s this newly opened shop at a mall that’s a few miles from her house. Forgot to mention that Jessica’s new job made her move to a new place and her house was a bit like in the suburbs so she wasn’t familiar with the place. But still, she wants to give it a try and tour around. She stood up, got ready and took her car keys before making her way to her car. Once she the ignition, checked herself in the mirror and putting lipstick on, she’s all ready to go. But not forgetting to turn the GPS on because she needs someone to lead the way. But then she realized that the maps had an updated version. One, the usual one and the other, a live version

“Live version?”

She titled her head wondering what a live version would sound like or what difference does it make with the usual one. But Jessica being Jessica, she loves trying new things. So, why not right? What could go wrong?

“Welcome to the live version of google maps. Live version requires a strong connection to ensure that your journey goes smoothly. If you are ready to start, click here”

And so she did

The screen loads for a few seconds before displaying a map of her surroundings. And…a person from the other line

“Hello, welcome to the new live version of google maps. We are from the Tragically Harmless company here to guide you all along your journey safe and sound” it says

“That’s one weird name for a company” Jessica mumbled to herself

“Yeah, I know right?”

It shocked Jessica when she heard the person responded to her remarks. She didn’t expect whoever that is on the other line to say anything. But oh, it’s live. What an idiot of her

“W-wait, you can hear me?” Jessica asks

“It is, rather live, Sir”

“Miss” Jessica corrected

“What?”

“It’s Miss”

“Oh, s-sorry. I just assumed…you know…because your voice sounds-”

“Yeah, actually I’m having a sore throat so it sounds a bit different” Jessica chuckled

“Ah, understandable. I’m sorry again, Miss”

“It’s alright”

Jessica put her seatbelt on and get ready to start on her journey

“So, where are you headed?” the person asks

“Um, I’m going to the Curve Oak mall”

“Got it. Destination set”

Jessica exhales and pays attention to the road. Honestly for her, it’s getting awkward considering that whatever she says, the other line could hear it. and Jessica is the type of person who tends to jam her hearts out to a song she likes. But not today, not when somebody is listening. It is also getting a bit awkward because it makes her think that she is oblige to start a conversation with whoever that person is. Well now she’s starting to regret with her decisions by choosing the Live version in the first place

“In 80 meters, turn left”

Jessica slightly jumped from her seat since she was daydreaming a while ago

“Got it” Jessica said

She turned left slowly, being careful of those cars on the road

“So….” Jessica started

“Oh good you talk oh my god it was getting super awkward”

Jessica hears the person mumble from the other line. Maybe the person didn’t mean to say it out loud but…yeah

“Um…” Jessica spoke again

“Uh, yes?”

“What’s the difference between the live version and the normal maps?”

“Miss, you don’t have to start a conversation if you don’t want to” the person giggled

Oh god is it that obvious, Jessica thought

“N-no. Actually I do wanna know”

“Oh…” the person replied

“….”

“So, um, it’s nothing different actually. Just that our company likes to experiment with some stuff and see if it works in both ways. Just like how I swing both ways”

“What?”

“What?”

Okay what was that all about, Jessica thought. Just when she thought things wouldn’t get weird, it does in every possible ways.

“Nevermind” Jessica replied

“….”

“And uh, there’s two junctions upfront which way should I turn?”

“Oh, I forgot that I’m a living GPS now sorry um, turn left…”

“Okay-”

“….I think”

“You think?”

Jessica is getting really nervous because she’s getting near to those junctions

“W-wait, I think it’s right”

“Don’t you have a map?” Jessica replies getting impatient

“I AM the map”

“Then be goddamn useful! I’m near!”

“Um, near what?”

“The junctions!” she exclaimed

“Oh I thought you were talking about something weird like-”

“JUST TELL ME LEFT OR RIGHT”

She was lucky that there are at least four cars before her, making her spare little time to let the goddamn person on the other line to tell her which way to turn

“UM OKAY, RIGHT!”

“Jesus”

And so, she slowly drove to the right lane. Pun intended

“I bet now you wished you should’ve taken the normal version”

“Yeah, I should have” Jessica admits annoyingly

“Well, too bad for you” the person chuckles

Jessica sighs and focused straight ahead since it seems like there won’t be any junctions to turn to in at least one mile. She lightly hummed some songs as the traffic light turns red

“By the way…”
