“This chapter gives out a whole new perspective on your literature knowledge. You guys should……”

 

 

Sooyoung wasn’t even listening to the teacher who was currently rambling about a new novel they should be working on. She didn’t really pay much attention to the woman as she was so busy staring at the girl few rows in front of her. The girl with the long blonde wavy hair, with a perfect body proportion and milky white skin. At least to Sooyoung’s eyes. She was her friend. Heck, she was her best friend and, also her longtime crush.

 

 

And that lady is none other than the queen bee, Jessica Jung

 

 

To describe Jessica Jung well, she was the top of everything. The very top among all. Everything must go her way and if you mess with her, she’ll ruin your life. She was the queen, and also the cold ice princess. With one glare, she could make your knees weak and it comes off in both right and wrong way. Can’t deny that she IS beautiful. Everyone wants to be her friend and literally everyone worships her. Mainly because they didn’t want her to end their lives and mainly sometimes just for popularity. And somehow that got Sooyoung wondering how she could even befriended her in the first place with seven other girls. Sooyoug was so caught up with Jessica that she didn’t notice her friend Yuri was calling her. Which ended up with a crumpled paper thrown on her head. Sooyoung turned around and glared at Yuri which sat next to Taeyeon

 

 

“What the ?” Sooyoung mouthed

 

 

Yuri and Taeyeon chuckled and pointed at the crumpled paper, asking Sooyoung to read it. which Sooyoung did. And the note read:

 

 

You’re so checking Jessica out again

 

 

Sooyoung scrunched her eyebrows and faced them again with an annoyed look. Hell they knew that she has a huge crush on her own best friend. To name the other seven well, they are Taeyeon, Tiffany, Sunny, Hyoyeon, Yuri, Yoona, and Seohyun. Jessica was the one that got them together and they define the perfect group. Taeyeon and Yuri are dorks, Tiffany was born in Cali like Jessica so they got along really well in terms of girl talk and English, Sunny is cheerful and independent, Hyoyeon is a dancer, Yoona just likes to eat like Sooyooung and Seohyun was the one with the brain. Sooyoung rolls her eyes and turned around to face Jessica and saw that Jessica was also staring at her, smirking. Jessica mouthed ‘what’s the matter?’ but Sooyoung just shook her head on which Jessica nod in response. Then they heard the teacher started talking again

 

 

“Did you guys brought you favorite novel that I asked you to?” the teacher asks

“Yes!!!”

“Alright, now I want each of you to read any lines or your favorite quotes from the book to me”

 

 

Grunts and groans could be heard from the room but they still obeyed anyway. Sooyoung sighs as she pulls out her book, The Great Expectation, and flips through each page searching for her favorite quote. She was busy flipping when suddenly the teacher called her name

 

 

“Sooyoung”

 

 

Sooyoung looked up

 

 

“Yes Mrs.V?” Sooyoung answered

“Would it be okay if we start with you?”

 

 

All eyes were on Sooyung now, including Jessica who was giving sweet smiles to her. It was nerve-wracking yet she doesn’t wanna show that she’s nervous. Not in front of Jessica

 

 

“Um, sure” Sooyoung said

“Do you wanna stand in front?” Mrs.V asks

“Nah, I’m good”

 

 

It was fortunate that Sooyoung stopped at the exact page she wanted to read. There lies her favorite quote

 

 

“Okay so um, this is a quote from Great Expectations written by Charles Dickens…”

 

 

Sooyoung spoke to the whole class before gazing at her teacher, asking for permission

 

 

“You may start now”

 

 

The teacher tells and Sooyoung took a deep breath before exhaling. She stared at Jessica and swore that her friends were eyeing her and most probably grinning.Jessica smirks and slightly lifts her head up signaling Sooyoung to start. Sooyoung nods

 

 

“I loved her against reason…”

 

 

Sooyoung first kept her eyes on her book. She actually knew the quote by heart but she was too shy

 

 

“Against promise,”

 

 

Sooyoung lifted her head up

 

 

“Against peace,”

 

 

She stared at Jessica

 

 

“Against hope,”

 

 

Sooyoung kept her eyes locked on Jessica. With Jessica doing the same

 

 

“Against happiness,”

 

 

It’s like at one moment, everything made sense, and with the last line…

 

 

“Against all discouragement that could be”

 

 

After Sooyoung was done with the last line of the quote, the room fell into deep silence as Sooyoung still kept her gaze on Jessica. Jessica just replied her with a sweet smile, and Sooyoung gave her somewhat an awkward but nervous smile. Sooyoung snapped back from her Jessi-reality and faced her teacher who has mischievous smile on her face and by then she knew she was dead

 

 

“Was the quote intended to a certain someone, Sooyoung?” Mrs.V grinned

“I, hm, what? I-I was just so into it like it’s u-um wait what am I babbling about oh my god can I sit down?”

 

 

Sooyoung said the sentence in one breath and the whole class burst out laughing. Mrs.V just smiled sweetly because she knew what was going on but she decided not to tease the latter

 

 

“Alright Sooyoung calm down” Mrs.V giggles

“…”

“You may sit”

 

 

Sooyoung bowed her head and sat down, she glances at Jessica earning a ‘you did well’ and a wink from her. That made Sooyoung blush a bit

 

 

“Jessica Jung”

 

 

Jessica stared at Mrs.V, raising her eyebrows at her

 

 

“Yes?”

“Do you want to go next?” Mrs.V asked

 

 

Jessica turned around to face Sooyoung who gave her a shrug

 

 

“Sure, I guess”

 

 

Jessica stood up and walked up to the front of the class. Being the usual Jessica Jung, she loves attention. Being the Queen B has its perks where everyone is going to admire her. Especially a certain someone. And she wanted that

 

 

“So, are you going to read to a certain someone too?” Mrs.V teased

“Maybe”

 

 

Jessica replied with a sly smile. She was never afraid to speak her mind out and somehow that’s what makes her unpredictable. To Sooyoung, when Jessica is acting such way, she couldn’t tell whether Jessica was telling the truth or simply just messing with her. But yeah, she wouldn’t be Jessica Jung if she doesn’t do that

 

 

“This quote was written by F. Scott Fitzgerald” Jessica spoke

“You may start”

 

 

Jessica inhaled deeply and stared at her book then back to everyone

 

 

“I fell in love with her courage…”

 

 

Mrs.V already starts grinning, but she kept her head hung low pretending that she was listening hard

 

 

“…Her sincerity,”

“….”

“And her flaming self-respect”

 

 

The boys were all gawking staring at the queen bee. But Jessica only cared for one look

 

 

“And it’s all these things I’d believe in,”

 

 

Sooyoung smiled to herself

 

 

“Even if the whole world indulged in a wild suspicions that…”

 

 

She gazed at Sooyoung

 

 

“…She wasn’t all she should be”

 

 

Sooyoung swore that the next line almost threw her off the edge when Jessica kept her gaze at the same place

 

 

“I love her…”

 

 

Jessica smiles

 

 

“And that is the beginning of everything”

 

 

Before the both of them even know it, everyone clapped their hands and Jessica blinked, trying to process everything. She faced Sooyoung and smirks, before making her way back to her seat. Taeyeon and Yuri coughed behind Sooyoung which made Sooyoung roll her eyes and looks at them with the ‘don’t start’ face. Jessica giggled when she witnessed that

 

 

“That was moving” Mrs.V spoke

“But, nothing moves” Taeyeon answered

“Taeng she was talking about me reading my quotes” Jessica replied and roll her eyes

“Oh…”

 

 

The class laughed once again. Jessica glanced at Sooyoung giving her another sweet smile which Sooyoung replied with a toothy one.

 

 

“Idiot”

 

 

Jessica mumbled while giggling and turned back to face the teacher.

 

 

 

 

Sooyoung’s POV

 

 

The school bell rung indicating the end of the school session. I arch my back and crack all my knuckles since they’re all tensed for sitting too long. I blinked few times before placing all my books in my bag and stood up. Stretching once again when the two dorks came up to me

 

 

“Sooyoung-ah, let’s go to the café downtown!”

 

 

Yuri swung her arms around Taeyeon since she’s short. Taeyeon roll her eyes

 

 

“Sorry guys, can’t make it today. I have plans” I said apologetically

“Plans without me?”

 

 

I heard Jessica’s voice as she walked towards us before sitting on my desk. I smiled at her

 

 

“If it isn’t the queen bee arriving” Taeyeon said
