After the food was cooked, served and consumed; the dishes cleared and everyone just ready to do absolutely nothing, the younger Kim siblings wanted to play a game. Tae Gi had originally suggested hide and seek, but Hae Lye said it was too cold, so it was off the table. Wheein suggested poker but Tae Gi and Hae Lye didn’t know the rules and explaining the game to them seemed like it would take forever.
“We could play Monopoly,” Hae Lye suggested and Jungkook’s eyes lit up at the sound of it. He was always fond of strategic games.
“I think I left it in the car,” Hae Lye said, standing up, but her brother was out the room before she could take the second step.
While Taehyung went to get the game, the others decided on what to play for; there had to be a prize for the winner and a punishment for the loser.
“Loser has to make breakfast and dinner, and winner gets to place their order.” Whee In suggested.
They all confidently agreed.
Jungkook noted that he hated Monopoly at the end of the game when he lost and was stuck at preparing breakfast and dinner. The game had started off so well with him actually leading, but throughout the game, he ended up earning debts and fines he did not remember to have encountered in the beginning. Call him a sore loser, but the subtle eye contact exchange between the Kim siblings was not sitting well with him. It seemed like they were somehow cheating throughout the game and he had tried to catch them, but they were all a pack of serene actors- literally.
Luckily for him, Tae Gi had won- don’t ask him how, Jungkook was still trying to grasp the situation and come to terms with the fact that he’d lost in a game of monopoly to little kids. After he had managed to convince his ego that it wasn’t as bad as it looked, he tried to look at the bright side; it hadn’t been Wheein who had won, she had come out second to last. She’d also lost to Tae Gi which meant that whatever the little boy would request wouldn’t be something to spite Jungkook.
Pizza. He wanted to eat pizza and Jungkook had no idea how to make pizza.
They had decided to take a walk as Jungkook called it, because Wheein had informed the younger Kim kids of a small hill up along the lake where you could watch the sunset, a mere prelude to the dawn, and later the fair twinkle and dim of magical fireflies. They’d demanded to go there right away and Wheein had of course given in. Jungkook could see right through her facade, it was almost pitiful of how hard she was trying and miserably failing at her own mere pathetic attempts.
“We brought convenience pizza, it’s in the fridge,” Taehyung whispered into his ear in passing; it was so quick that Jungkook almost thought he had imagined the older’s voice, but the rapid thumping of his heart and the goosebumps under his jacket proved otherwise.
For some reason, he was beginning to give Jungkook the creeps. The older boy was behaving out of character and Jungkook was not sure how to react to it. He’d tried to convince himself that Taehyung was only doing this to piss off his ex, but it was beginning to piss off the younger as well.
Jungkook mumbled profanities under his breath, not caring whether Taehyung heard him or not. But he did.
The older turned around and began walking backwards while his gaze lingered on the younger, the sweetest of chocolate narrowing a fraction and his lips pursing as if he was thinking of something.
He looked magical, as if his body became one with the forestry stars, his skin becoming radiant as the natural glow harvested in his mind - Jungkook was definitely still hangover. He shook his head slightly to try to clear his thoughts and focus on the path he was taking.
“Are you okay?” Taehyung asked, he looked concerned and had even halted his steps. The younger boy seemed to be slacking off behind and was walking at a slow pace from the others. Taehyung knew that Jungkook was still hangover. Even at lunch, he had barely touched his food and every now and then the older would catch him balancing his head in his hands or massaging his temples when he thought that no one was looking.
The younger waved a hand in the air dismissively. “I’ve been better, but I’ll survive, don’t let me keep you from the fun. Go along.”
The older hesitated for a second, but then nodded and turned back around. Jungkook let out a deep breath he didn’t know he had been holding, the minute the other started jogging to catch up with the others. Truthfully, he felt like crap, his legs were wobbly, his stomach queasy and his head…ugh- he needed to sit down or else he was going to do something he’d regret. He stopped in his tracks and leaned his body on a nearby tree, held onto it while taking slow breaths, and tried to calm his racing heart. He felt saliva collect in his mouth and all he wanted was to throw up, but nothing came up.
Worst. Day. Ever.
“Jungkook?” Taehyung was back.
The younger tilted his head in the direction he thought he heard the older boy’s concerned voice and responded with something incoherent while waving his hand to shoo him away.
“You can’t go on. We need to get you back to the cottage.” He could swear Taehyung was standing right beside him. Was that his warm hand on his forehead?
“Water,” he croaked out through his dry throat. “Tae, I need water,” he tried again, holding tighter onto the tree as his legs lost stability.
“Just a second, I’ll take you back,” Taehyung told him and he nodded or thought he did.
“Whee In!?” he heard the other call. “WHEE IN!?” he called again, this time, louder than before.
Then he heard Whee In’s voice and Taehyung urgently answer her and then all he remembered was the older boy’s voice asking him to stay awake.
Jungkook woke up to the sound of someone calling his name and shaking him awake. “Taehyung?” he asked voice horse.
“I’m here,” the older assured him taking his hand in his. “How are you feeling?” he asked.
His other hand went to his throat, “Water. I need water.” He repeated the same words he had said before blacking out. The elder helped him to sit up straight, before handing him a glass of water and watched him empty the glass in one go, eyes never leaving his face.
When he brought the glass back down, Taehyung refilled it again quietly. The younger didn’t savor a single drop in the second glass; his throat felt like it had never tasted water in all his life.
He thanked the older as he handed him back the glass to put away. Taehyung shook his head dismissively, before focusing his full attention back to him. “How are you feeling?” he asked him again, voice monotone.
“Like I won’t be drinking anytime soon,” he tried to joke while shifting to lean his back on the headboard, but Taehyung didn’t laugh.
The younger decided to look around the room and tried to identify where they were, but his vision failed him. The room seemed to be in a blur and it was too dark inside. “Where are the others?” he asked instead.
“They went to watch the sunset,” he could still feel the older’s eyes on him. God this was uncomfortable! He didn’t know what, but he felt like he was walking on eggshells at the moment. He could tell that Taehyung was pissed - at what he didn’t know, but Jungkook knew that he was to watch his words for some reason.
“Why are we here? What happened?” What did he do wrong? So, yes, he drank too much, but everyone has done it once. Taehyung had no reason to be mad at him.
“You got sick on the way, so we came back,” Taehyung’s voice was still monotone.
“I don’t remember us coming back or even going,” he mused aloud.
“You kind of passed out.” Taehyung doubted Jungkook remembered the course of the day at all.
“Oh,” was what he responded. “I guess I really did drink too much last night.”
“I don’t think that’s due to drinking.” Taehyung sighed.
Jungkook looked at the other confused. Taehyung held Jungkook’s wrist and raised the other’s hand to his eyes, when Jungkook’s brain registered what was going on, he yanked his wrist away from the other and managed to poke his eyelid with his thumb in the process.
“Mother of…KK!” he exclaimed, knees bending and pulling to his chest, h
