Harsh Words

The Biography of a Vampire

While Hongbin had lost himself in old memories, Jina was in her victim’s car, draining him out of blood. She got her fangs out of his neck and tilted her head the side, looking innocently at the corpse. His eyes were still open and wickedly enough, she loved the soulless stare the corpse was giving her. In the end she walked out the car and set it on fire.

Walking through the town, her eyes back to brown and her shirt and mouth cleaned up, she felt watched. Everywhere she glanced she could see a few men and women staring at her, even glaring at her. She smirked, knowing fully that those vampires were there for her.

Jina walked slowly to a darker alley, sensing one vampire after her. When the female vampire stopped to look around for the noble she got pulled into the darkness.

Jina got out and smirked while wiping her hands on her jeans.

“And so the game begins.”

And she continued her way to the Lee residence where she knew she will have fun with Myungsoo.

Meanwhile, Dana was searching for Joonyoung, who simply disappeared. Mino was searching for Hongbin too, but the nobles were nowhere near the school.

“What do we do now? Mom already killed a few vampires and Dongwon said-”

“Dongwon? The Lee Dongwon a.k.a werewolf who keeps the contract between vampires and werewolves? Dongwon, friend of Gong Yoo?” Mino interrupted the girl.

She nodded.

“He’s a legend! Dad told me about him once. He’s the only werewolf who dares to even joke aroundYoo. And his transformation doesn’t even hurt!”

Dana raised an eyebrow, watching Mino amused.

“Right, that Dongwon. It seems he’s a very good friend of mom’s. He told me about the agreement. If vampires kill Jina-“

“Yoo will be mad. And a mad, old and sadistic vampire is even worse than Jina.” Mino continued, aware of the danger.

“Exactly. Vampires are already here. I told Joonyoung to use Hongbin and Myungsoo in order to keep Jina safe and maybe get her back to normal. I hope he got the hint when I said ‘puppets’.”

“He did. I’m sure of that. He’s very smart. How do you think they will get her under control again? Last time, she had to forget everything so she could change.”

The young vampire slayer simply sighed and shrugged.

“Let’s just hope. We’ll see what happens next.”

Mino nodded and both walked back inside the school, with an eye open for the vampires.

The ‘puppet’ named Myungsoo wasn’t at home as Jina would’ve wanted. Instead, he was walking through the town aimlessly, not paying attention to his surroundings. He was close to a park when he started to remember the first time he met the dangerous vampire.

Cloudy, miserable days were adding up as the sun hasn’t been seen on the sky for almost a week now.

Myungsoo, dressed in antique clothes and hair styled in a certain way, had to be at the mayor mansion for new assignments. The mansion was near and Myungsoo didn’t pay much attention to the raindrops that started to invade the small city. When he walked inside the building he saw two persons: a man and a woman, dressed beautifully, talking with the mayor. The sad old man made a sign to Myungsoo to walk closer. The woman smiled at the young human.

“So you are the one who will teach my daughter?”

Myungsoo nodded and kissed the woman’s hand respectfully. Her smile was showing the perfect white teeth she had as well as the glow her face was emitting. Myungsoo was amazed from every point of view.

“It’s a pleasure to meet you, Miss. I was delighted when mayor Wang asked me to be your daughter’s teacher.”

The woman glanced back to her husband and nodded.

“He’s perfect.”

The man nodded and got back to talking with the mayor. The woman turned her attention back to Myungsoo.

“How old are you Kim Myungsoo?”

“20 soon enough. I was a little surprised you want such a young teacher. I, myself, just finished my studies.”

She nodded and grabbed his hand.

“You’re perfect for this job. I want you to take this,” He looked down to his palm to see what the woman gave him. It was a medallion. His eyes widened and almost dropped the jewelry. “Take it. It’s made of small amethysts and you will need it in the future.”

He nodded, a little skeptical, and kissed her hand before retreating. Outside, he walked straight into the now hard pouring rain. He looked up to the sky and trailed his eyes down until his orbs found a small figure in the middle of an empty street.

“Aren’t you cold?” Myungsoo asked, walking closer to her.

The girl was young, a teenager about maybe 16 years old. She simply stared at him with her intense dark eyes, not even blinking once. He felt a chill run down his spine under her gaze.

“It can’t be colder than I already am.” She responded in a dry, emotionless voice.

Myungsoo furrowed his eyebrows, confused by her words.

“You must be Kim Myungsoo, Hana’s new tutor.” She gave a tiny smile, showing the same features as the woman before. “I’m Jina, her sister.”

He was even more surprised when she stuck her hand out. He stared for a second before shaking it. Her smile got wider and happier, her eyes started to sparkle, flowing with emotions. Myungsoo couldn’t help but smile too.

“What are you doing in the middle of the street? It’s raining.” He finally found his voice to say.

She looked up at the sky and closed her eyes, a peaceful expression gracing her face.

“I love the rain. I love how the drops fall down on my skin, how no sound can be heard except it and how powerful it is. The rain does whatever it wants, there’s no one to tell it to stop. It’s like a flood of power rushing down on the ground. It takes the dirt with it and leaves just fresh air behind.” She looked back into his eyes, “It makes me feel alive.”

He raised an eyebrow not understanding her words.

That specific memory got Myungsoo to smile. Every time it was raining he would go and simply stand in the middle of it, hoping he’d feel the same flood of power that she was feeling. It was in the same place that he confessed to her.

“Jina?”

The girl didn’t turn to face the man. She was looking down at her hands, her face covered by her dark bangs. He walked to her and turned her around forcefully.

“What happened?” Myungsoo asked.

She didn’t respond. He shook her shoulders but there was no answer.

“What’s going on, Jina?” He continued, persistence being his great point.

“It’s Hana. Even if she’s just a harmless human girl, she’s more powerful than I could ever be. I can’t even drink blood; I don’t know how I live!” She turned her head to the right, the bangs still covering her eyes. “No one believes I’m a vampire. Mom is supportive but I lost my hope that I will someday be a powerful vampire like Uncle Yoo.” She added in a tiny voice.

Myungsoo sighed and hugged her tightly.

“And adding to all these, mom wants me to marry a stranger.” She mumbled, Myungsoo tightening his grip on her. “I don’t want to suffer because of that too.”

He grabbed her face and forced her to look into his eyes.

“I will never let someone make you suffer.” He started, finally gathering the courage to admit, “I love you.”

I love you.

Those words meant a lot to him but she never told them back. She was convinced she fell in love with Hongbin and Myungsoo was just a special friend, one that would always be a support for her.

Myungsoo frowned and groaned at his naïve human self. She never loved anyone; she just tried to make herself believe her own lies. Jina wanted to be human because she wasn’t good at being a vampire. He showed her what happiness was and Hongbin’s presence simply turned everything upside down. But he knew, he’s always known, that Stella couldn’t love and still can’t.

Bing completely mesmerized by his own memories, he didn’t realize until it was too late. Vampires saw him. Myungsoo got slammed into a building by none other than a female vampire.

“Filthy blood. You’re not even with your own kind. Why are you against vampires? Why do you help them?” She hissed before a smirk widened on her lips, “Jung Jina will have a painful death.”

Myungsoo couldn’t help but laugh.

“If Jina dies, you will suffer. Gong Yoo won’t be merciful when he will find out his favorite niece got killed.” The vampire continued was ready to kill Myungsoo but he moved fast and plunged his hand through her chest, squeezing her heart before throwing it aside, “Too slow.”

Jina wandered around before she ultimately returned to the Lee mansion. This time, Hakyun was there, in a very elegant tuxedo.

“Well, well, what do we have here?” She started bemusedly, her eyes scanning the older vampire, “Why so classy?”

Hakyun rolled his eyes and walked in front the mirror. He re-arranged his tie and grabbed a hand through his brown, messy hair.

“Are you meeting someone important, Hakyun?” She pestered, just like in the past.

The vampire glared at her through the mirror, seeing her curious gaze. In that moment, Jina looked as the one he met just a few weeks before she lost control over her mind.

“It’s not nice to stare.” Hakyun mumbled before turning around to face her. Jina rolled her eyes before suddenly being pushed back by the hurried Hakyun.

“What’s up with him?” Myungsoo asked, walking in when Hakyun pushed him in hurry as well. “What’s up with you?” He asked, eyeing the bottle of whisky in Jina’s hand.

She shrugged and poured herself a glass of alcohol.

“I’ve been stressed out by vampires that want to kill me from afar.” She rolled her eyes and took a sip from her glass. “They don’t even have the guts to come and fight.”

Myungsoo walked over the couch and sat on it.

“No problem. They came to me. They’re not that powerful.”

Jina didn’t say another word afterwards which, in itself, was very strange. Something was off about her but Myungsoo couldn’t quite figure out what was she thinking.

“You don’t have to stare, Myungsoo. I know I’m acting a little out of character.” Jina started, moving her eyes on him, “I bet you’re trying to find out the reason. Let’s wait for the other two musketeers so I won’t have to repeat myself.”

Myungsoo stood there staring at her while she simply turned the TV on and started to watch the news. A few hours later, Hongbin and Joonyoung walked in. They were surprised to see Jina acting like nothing was wrong in the world.

“What are you doing?” Hongbin asked in a skeptical tone.

She grunted and switched positions: from staying on one side and leaning on her hand to simply roll on her stomach.

“Watching TV, duh! Can you move? I can’t see.”

Hongbin stood there, eyes widened at her behavior.

“She’s been like that since I came home, a few hours ago.” Myungsoo explained.

The three men stared at her intensely, forcing her to turn off the TV and give them her full attention.

“I bet you want an explanation.” They nodded slowly. “Yoo sent one of his friends to keep an eye on me.” She said in the most serious and deadly tone she could master, “Maybe it doesn’t sound as a bad thing but it is. Dongwon is the werewolf that keeps the agreement. I am the obstacle from a war being started. I don’t want a war and I don’t want that agreement to be ripped. But,” She glared intently at all of them. “If they want a war, they will get one. “

“Then be it.” Joonyoung said with everyone staring at him as if he hit his head. “They want to kill you? Let them come.”

“Are you sure?” Hongbin asked, not sure that was a good idea.

“The only way to end this is to kill all of them. It would be easier to get it done with all at the same time.” Joonyoung explained, getting a nod out of his sister.

Unfortunately, Jina left right after the last word was spoken and none of the boys knew where she went.

••••••••

Truthfully, Jina couldn’t hold any more stress, mostly because she knew that if she wanted to, she might as well kill each vampire and set them on fire but that would be a risk; obviously big fire would get everybody’s attention. Not a good plan. She didn’t flash anymore; instead she chose to walk to the lake where she had her first training session.

She was a few feet from the spot when she felt a different aura; it wasn’t a human but not a vampire either. She furrowed her eyebrows, trying to get a better view. Her eyes widened when someone came from behind and shoved her into a nearby tree. Jina didn’t even have time to react because the attacker shoved her into another tree, this time, harder.

Jinaa put a hand to her head and groaned. She surely didn’t expect that to hurt.

“Aren’t you going to fight back?”

She growled when she heard his voice. Her eyes reddened and hissed at the man that finally chose to come into view.

“Why should I tire myself over you? You know the rules. Do not hurt or kill Jina.” She responded in a monotone voice.

“True. We don’t want you dead.”

“You agreed to it just so the agreement wouldn’t be destroyed.”

The brown haired man nodded.

“Doesn’t this show how weak werewolves became, Dongwon?” She taunted.

“Vampires are weaker. They get overwhelmed by strong emotions and choose to ignore them or get rid of them. We control our feelings.” The werewolf explained, still very tense in case she’d fight back.

“Emotions are just a burden. They make you weak and helpless.”

Dongwon shook his head, a boyish grin appearing on his face.

“Your parents didn’t think so. You didn’t think so when you loved Hongbin.”

She sneered and rolled her eyes annoyed.

“And again we’re going back to that stupid, fairytale story. I never loved Hongbin. I was just blind. I held a big respect for humans but Hana changed my mind. Humans are-“

“You liked a human, Jina. You changed him.” Dongwon interrupted.

That was right. She did change Myungsoo because she didn’t want to suffer alone. He seemed to be her only salvation.

“Cat got your tongue, Jina? You know, Yoo never wanted this for you.” The werewolf changed the subject, “He thought that Joonyoung will be the one in your place yet here you are. I do agree that you are pretty strong. I don’t even want to imagine what would happen if Yoo would train you. You would really become a killing weapon. I should thank Hongbin and Myungsoo for keeping a balance for so long,”

“Hongbin is a nuisance. Myungsoo is…” She couldn’t respond to that so she chose to run away.

Dongwon smiled softly, “You were right Yoo. The answer has been here all along.”
